I've not seen the hitec zebra 3 channel, but if the third channel is on a trim then the truck will be very hard to drive. You would have to select your gear before driving off. Gear changing whilst in motion would be difficult and risky, as you could end up changing gear at full throttle (same risk as driving with no shift gate)

The zebra radios are ok if your letting a younge child drive the truck, as they are small and light in comparison to better spec radio gear. But as a result they are more "toy like". The quality isn't as good as hitecs more expencive radio systems. My brothers midnight pumpkin came with zebra radio gear. Its ok for bashing but i wouldnt recommend it for an expencive truck like the high lift.

Stella models do a great deal on the Futaba 4wd radio, which tamiya recommend for the high lift. I got mine from them and its pefect.

Does the 4EX receiver come with BEC? It is a somewhat large Rx, and there is no BEC written on it. There are no 4VWD radios on ebay currently, so I was considering the 4EX. The stick functions seem identical to the 4vWD. Right stick is ratcheded up down.

noticed someone using cheapo hitec zebra 3ch radio, where the 3rd channel is on a trim, how usable is this really.

not a trim, but if you modify make the 3rd channel a toggle switch i did that with my TQ3 and works like a charm.....
