Manta Ray Dish Wheels - say No Now!

Ok - I've had a few beers, and I've just spotted an auction for some dish wheels. Grim!

Does anybody like the look of these things? IMHO they are completely unrealistic and horrible to look at.

I propose that they become illegal to use (apart from shelf queen NIBs, etc.) and that they should all be replaced with Vanquish wheels...

And any model seen running them should be allowed to be shot at close range with a 20 gauge shotgun?

I agree, i have them on my Schumacher cougar 2 and they're awful!

I hate dish wheels they look rank, even if they are surpoed to reduce drag. I say throw any model with then on into a wood chipper.[6]

In fact, there seems to be a shortage of

good, realistic-looking wheels for off-road applications.  The

closest to a "real wheel" that also fits modern buggy rubber are the

stardish wheels from the Dyna Storm...

I agree, dish wheels suck, not just manta ray ones either.  Where i race, and probably everywhere else, almost all of the touring cars use dish wheels and they look terrible, especially in white. [N] [N] [N] [N]  the last time i raced touriong cars i used a set of grey skyline 2 piece wheels [Y] [Y] [Y]

I have to say I don't like the look of them either!

I only have one set and that is because they were the only premade wheel tire and foam set ups that worked at the local track,  don't race now tho so they are in a box never to see sunlight again [6]

They don't look great but hands down I prefer the  Manta-Ray wheel/tire combo to any of the more modern Tamiya's like the Dark Impact. I hate those  modern wheels with those horrible balloon buggy tires that every buggy comes with these days.

 ps I do however quite like the dish wheels used on the Bigwig.

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible!  Why can't Tamiya make a set of decent 8-spokes for their buggies?  My current 'basher' is a Sand Viper: great car, but hideous wheels which really detract from the whole model.  Why should I have to go to HPI and others for decent wheels?

Every decent off road race car these days uses dish wheels, B4, T4, Yoko, XXX, XXXT, XX4 etc and they all look good, better for racing as you can "rub" while racing ,I always did quite like the Losi XXCR Wheels 5 spoke design though! having said that the Manta Ray/Bearhawk ones are truly appalling ,is it the sickening Grey colour, the bleh design, or the tacky "speed disc" decals? yep, couldn't agree more, replaced them on both my ray and RW ray, one with the vanquish wheels(white) and one with the egress wheels(same but black) and they look 10 times better, only ones i wont bin area set of 2.2's that have some awsome sticky slix glued on to them which i use on my RW ray for carpark bashing only, looks awfull but handles great.
