Okay. I have purchased my first nitro rc the Tamiya TNX 5.2 to run this summer.  I promised myself it would be my "stock" basher because all I ever build is shelf queens & I wouldn't buy anything extra for it under any circumstances.  Well so far I have purchased the following against my own personal "promise":

  • Ofna Heavy Duty Servo Saver
  • Hitec HS-645MG High Torque Steering Servo
  • Ofna 1200mah Receiver Pack
  • 23mm Proline Hex Adapters
  • Proline 40 Series Moab Tires
  • Proline 40 Series Weld Cheyenne Wheels
  • Venom 2400mah AA Batteries For the Transmitter
  • also hunting for the cheapest Spektrum radio I can find . . . .. . .. ..  ....

What is my problem [*-)]. Anyone know why I can't just "bash" it stock out of the box ? Surely I can't be the only one ?!

 Well, I would say you sound like any normal RC hobbiest. You just want to get the best performance and have the most fun with your truck which sounds fine to me. I hope you enjoy your new nitro, I am a little low on "fun" money right now so I won't be getting a new vehicle for a while.If you get the chance would you mind telling me about youre nitro experence?[;)]

Yeah, I have the same problem - If the stock kit doesn't have these items, and hop-ups are available, I always add them:

* Full ball bearings

* Ball differentials

* Stabilizers

* Metal motor mount

* Oil dampers

* Alu steerings

* Carbon damper towers

* Chassis strengthener/reinforcement

* Upgraded propshaft it it needed it

* Front one-way (recently bought one for my TA05)

I recently bought a TG10 Mk1. Couldn't leave that box stock, had to add:

* Stabilizers

* 2-speed transmission

* Undercowl

* Foam bumper

* Ball differentials front and back

* Alu steering with ball bearings

... and I was thinking about getting the lightweight flywheel.

It's a sickness!

I find that "more" hop-ups seems to cure my addiction, that is until I need additional hop-ups [:P]

Even worse - I am a vintage hop-up fanatic. I have to wade through Ebay auctions to get most of what I am looking for.

I think the addiction starts and is fueled by peoples showrooms here at TC. You see some great ideas and examples in the showrooms that inspire you to want to do it yourself. Its also fueled by places like ebay that just make you want to spend money and have the excitement of cool new bits arriving and putting them on to see what they look like. Its good but costly fun.

Whats quite interesting though is how many hop ups are just purely cosmetic even though you convince yourself your car will run SO much better when you have that certain new (and costly) bit installed. If your cars a basher what does it really matter? But I suppose it matters a lot if having a great looking car really adds to your enjoyment of it.

I realy know tthis problem. I also have this problem.

At the moment I'm  on two projects. From which a frog. What have I bought for it:

NIP you-g front damper

NIP you-g rear stabilizer

Mint you-g rear dampers

NIP CRP rear bumper

NIP CRP rear skid

Ball bearings

NIP JG adjustable motormount

And some NIP unique seldom seen rims

Motorcooler with fan

What is gonna be on it more?

CRP front skid

CRP Front bumper

Heavy duty steering kit

Wheels must be gold plated

Chassis must be chrome plated

Kamtec baja shell

Superstock SS

And a nice esc (it's not gonna run, but it must be possible to)

Other project is a came trophy defender on a xc chassis. That's only gonna be much work to get it scale. And I will fit some ball bearing (that's what I say now) Still wanting to hop-up my top force to far beyond evo...

Perhaps our addictions (I count myself in 'our') take away the need to do stupid things to cars in real life.

HAHA, brilliantly put DI Joe!

 And very true, I got back into the hobby a couple of years ago now to stop me from constantly pulling my real 4x4 apart. so I bought a 1:10 version instead for rock crawling. and that has been modified, as has each other I've built, rebuilt since. That's the fun of it, to have something less "bought" and more your own.
