Well, I got my first Nitro - the TNX 5.2 and began the engine break - in process.  After the fourth tank of fuel I heard a neighbour from 2 yards behind me and across a street yell "Hey - how about enough of the noise - I got a baby trying to slep over here".  Now, it was 3:30 pm so it wasn't too early.  In his defence the thing is very loud too !  Although comically - he was leaving the front door to his house wide open [:^)] . . . . . .

Funny thing is, two neighbours directly beside me were outside & didn't say a word.  Out of consideration I packed it up for the day but I only had one tank of fuel left to go to complete the break in according to the manual.  Oh well, tomorrow afternoon I run a few quick tanks through to finish it off.  Lucky for that neighbour I have no intention of running the truck on the street or in my yard but too bad I only had one tank left to break it in . ...

On a side note this thing is somethine else !  Listening to the engine scream as it hits second gear and watching the tires balloon (it was propped up for break in) was hilarious !

Lesson: Be considerate of neighbours.  Even if they have no patience.

Just ask frindly ,

Ow sir, does the car bother you ?

You could have told me that without shouting, the engine is not that loud.

< stay polite >

But if the car is bothering you, no problem, i can go somewhere else.

< wait for response,  no mather what it is ... =>  >

... but i won't .. as you did not ask me nice, please shout to your wife/dog/cat/kids..  not me..

Fire up that nitro again.

But.. guess i am one of the lucky one's who is living in a place where you can just about anything

you want.  Not many here have "silent hobby's" , motorcross guys, scooters, 1:1 cars & with nice audio systems .. a insane one with rc toys,

so.. we let everybody have his fun.

Count yourself lucky, someone down our road got a nitro of some sort at Xmas and started to run it up and down the road only to have someone come out their house and smash it with a shovel. The police were called and it all kicked off. Im glad I got out the nitro scene. As nice as they sound I much prefer the leccies especially when it comes to test runs in the living room.

Ouch !  That would hurt.  I had the truck on a stand in my backyard & was just running a few tanks through for break in .  I have no intention of running it in the neighbourhood but it has yet 2 more tanks for break in to be completed.  I'll be nice and run it out in the "boonies" like parks, construcion sites etc.  Hopefully he'll let me finish breaking it i9n before he comes over with a shovel !

I don't know why people get so angry at the noise, I mean its not like your running an F-16 down the street. Its just a little truck that makes no more noise than a weed eater.

I can't believe the story about that lunatic coming out with a shovel sounds like someone has bigger problems than a little noise.[:S]

Living in a built up area, and having 4 kids, I can sympathise with both you and your irate neighbour. I did the Savage static run in in my back garden, and felt more than a little guilty about the noise. No-one complained, but I did make sure that I did it during the day in the week when most people were at work.

Sometimes, when you live close to others, and you've got a baby, there can be a lot of different factors stopping him from sleeping, and it's only the last of the noise annoyances which cause you to complain. At the time you complain, it can unfortunately be out of proportion because of the other factors. I wouldn't mind betting that the guy had had a stressful time, and the sound of your car was the final straw for him, and his complaint may have been affected by a buildup of stress.

I think you did the right thing, if you are considerate and cordial, and try to ignore the fact the guy was shouting, it should blow over. Maybe talk to him when things have settled down and smooth it over. If he still rants, then forget it and ignore future complaints. If he is anything like me, he will probably be nice about it.

That's when I start Using chainsaws and jackhammer to build absolutely nothing on my drive way. Treat others as you would like to be treated. If he  wants to be a jackass then I would be more than willing to play that game.

My Savage X break in was noisy and long. I live in the middle of the countryside, so was quite mindful of the fact I was annoying neighbours. As I get on with my neighbours and have babies myself, I also can sympathise with both sides.

Additionally - noise from mowers and power tools is arguably necessary work on properties, but running in a noisy 2 stroke for over an hour is just noise caused by recreational stuff. That's always going to annoy people more.

Either way - I'd ask what time is good for you to do the rest of the run in, and if the person gets rude then - you have given them an opportunity to decide and they blew it. Just finish the run in whenever you want!!

Part of the reason I sold my nitro is that I am just too conscious of the antisocial aspect. They blow smoke and are noisy, which in this day and age, just seems to wind people up. My rebellious days are behind me so I use electric and keep everyone happy and run the cars anywhere I want!

i think your neightbour is right.

sorry but what's a fun noise for you is only a noise polloution for somebody else!

One of the reasons I don't really like nitro cars.  Also the

heat, the oily stains, the fuel costs, the messing about resetting it

every other week...

I used to live in the middle of nowhere,

where I'd alternate my time between playing with RC cars and practicing

my motocross racing in the back field.  Now I'm older and live on

an estate, I like to be polite and not make too much noise.  Even

yesterday I gave up trying to drift a bearing out of my motorbike

swingarm because the hammering seemed too loud for a quiet estate.

Having

said that, my estate backs onto a housing community estate where a

couple of lads have a 4-stroke pit bike which they ride around and

around and around and around the block all weekend long in the

summer... And the kid 3 doors down has this electric

ride-on buggy thing with rigid plastic tyres which makes a badword of a

noise when it goes up and down his gravel drive.

I have some neighbors that have dogs that bark constantly. I took my nitro out in the backyard and broke it in at about 9pm. I felt absolutely great about doing it. On the other hand there are a few neighbors around me that are great and I hated to do it, but since I've been the only one to ever complain about the dogs barking, I went ahead and finished the break-in. I'm about to get a 1/5 scale truck. We'll see how that goes over! [:P]

I think you handled the situation well. You were consider running your Nitro in the afternoon and you stopped once you got a complain.  Is better to keep a good relationship and on speaking terms than to ignore each other.

The noise is one of the main reasons I dont get a nitro too, its pretty loud. My other hobby is airsoft and I gotta be real careful with that one as well, especially as they are full sized full- auto assault rifles. With electric cars its nice to be able to go out, not get hassled and not hassle/ scare anyone else!

What gets me are the number of people who make comments like "you're too old for that" or " big kid" etc ( i am 37)

See this is why I don't have neighbors....life is too short to deal with compromises and actually taking time to listen to what somebody ELSE wants or thinks you should do on YOUR property.

But I guess if you really want to have neighbors - why not just ask him if he wants to drive it?

Ahh, always like it when getting a comment "your to old for that"

Quite hard to get the smile off my face after that one ;)

Having luck here with the neigbors, they don't care about a bit of noice ( i don't either ).

And, if there is something new.. "the louder the better" , testdriving my latest finished Tiger 1 full option last weekend,

( these things are LOUD ) , resulted in a frindly meeting in my back garden with the neigbors [:D]

In short, i don't complain when they toy with the 1:1 cars, they don't complain when running a scale army in the back B)

At this point more upset about my 1:1 car, blown the head-gasket..  the thing is now a write-off..

shame!  was such a good 2.0 dohc engine... :) shame shame shame..

ok .. back to topic ;)

When I run my nitro cars I try to be respectful of others but I have to say, I am appalled at the lack of respect some of the posters here have for their neighbors.  Those same neighbors that you pi$$ off may be in a position later to call the police if they see someone breaking into your house, call the fire department if your house is on fire or maybe even save your life.  How likely do you think they would take action if they think you're a punk?

Well spoken.  That is why when he asked me to stop I did (even though he was a bit rude about it) but in the long run we all need to get along in the neighbourhood as we are each others "eyes" as you said.  I had no intention of running my truck in the neighbourhood (and have yet to do it) but it was my first nitro & I had to make sure I was breaking it in properly.  Cheers.

Don't go broadcasting if you own expensive RC toys too... thieves will know where you live.

exactly!!

I try to keep a low profile.  when people ask me how much a certain car costs I always say they are about $100 and you can get them at Toy's R Us
