Probably a silly thought. While mechanically identical to the Bruiser, but...

1. Not one of the first 100 Tamiyas. (It's number 111)

2. Released in the 90's, not the 80's

3. Uses modern 7.2V battery packs, not the vintage 6V 4000mAh.

Final prices on eBay for the Mountaineer seem to be generally somewhat lower than the Bruiser?

Mountaineer lovers please don't flame me. [:P]

I have no real preferrence between the Mounty and Bruiser.  I like them both.  Some like the Mounty for the roll bar and some like the Bruiser for the extended cab.

If I was to choose amoung the old 3spd. I would pick likely go for the Hilux because of the Ford body and the locking front hub similar to older 4WD.

Maybe not to some but still it is a proper 3-speeder and that's what really counts to many.

I dont see the 7.2v battery pack as a disadvantage to it as they are much easier to get then a dead discoloured old battery pack

Ehm Tamiya1/10...It wouldn't be called a hilux if it were made by Ford!!!

used a complete mounty seems to fetch more than the bruiser

NIB the bruiser wins.

A mounty body will fetch more than a similar condition bruiser body every time.

I totally agree with Billg4 here.  I think the mountaineer is more desirable.  I think that the Mountaineer is more rare also because it didn't sell nearly as many as the Bruiser.

I prefer the Mountaineer because it has the 'correct' body that I always felt the Hilux should have had.  Here in the UK at least, the Hilux never had a Flareside SWB pickup body - did it ever or was Tamiya using some artistic creativity?  Ideal 3spd for me would be a Hilux chassis with a mountaineer body (boring but more 'scale').

I think it has to do with the fact that The Bruiser was from the golden age of Tamiya RC, eg it was co-era with Hornets, Grasshoppers and Hot Shots. It was The Bruiser that was the one most people lusted after from the Tamiya catalogues of the time.

When the Mountaineer came out, RC had moved on to more high tech buggies and early touring cars.

Long term, I think the Mountaineer has more appeal because people tend to prefer the look without the sleeper cab. I like the look of the sleeper cab, it looks different and unusual. The fact that they're both so similar means both trucks will pretty much keep step in value.

I personally like them both equally, they both look incredible. But I went for the Bruiser, because that's the one I remember from the catalogues.

Thanks for all the responses. I just like to know how other members think of the Mounty.

I too think that the Mounty with the roll bar and lights looks a little better than a Bruiser, though a Bruiser is what I currently own. :P

I prefer Mounty, 'cos sleeper cab Hiluxes went out of style in the 1980s.

It sure don't say "FURD" on the Hilux tailgate matey. [:^)]

I'm another Mounty fan. I have fond memories of looking at the Bruiser in catalogs as a kid, and embarrassingly, really like the Hog decal on the door. But while I want a Bruiser in my collection, I want a Mounty on the other end of my transmitter.

Still, having just added a Bruiser to my showroom, it's definitely the crowd favourite.

It would have to be the Mounty for me. My first car was a real Hilux with a 3" lift kit & 33" tyres [:D]

Oh, and if anyone is finding their Mounty less than desirable I'll gladly take it off their hands[:P
