It always seems to be me that notices this but has the entry page to the site changed from   "defaultcache.html"   to   "default.asp"

Am I right in thinking that this might affect some peoples favorites? and also is this the reason the the downtime of the TC home page this morning?

they've both been inplace for ages are you can get to both by typing default.asp

login subcribers will see a page called default.asp, which will contain their personalised view. None subscribers will end up at defaultcache.html which will be the generic view. This a db server trick to alleviate the load on the servers (not to mention search engines love html files)

The two pages might look the same but, default cache doesn't make any calls to the database, its just a static page that gets created when something actually changes on the site.

There is a slim chance that the defaultcache people might occasional get a page not found message if they happen to check at just the point the files get written but the odds are long, and it should be ok if you refresh.

Oh my account has been defaultcashe.html when I log in for ages [:^)]

 But obviously works now [H]

I was in my IT lesson, I checked it 3 times and 4 -5 min intervals and was still offline but I do notice that when I see it it is the home page that is offline, I usually put in "/cs"  after the tc logo to get the forum and it all works then I can get to my profile and view all of the site trade room ect...

also you said that the default.asp is for the personalised view, well my profile doesn't change, when I click edit the info bit changed and the password email but the what you want on the home page doesn't I have checked to let me see real car pics a few times and when I click edit again they are all re-ticked?

I also know that "rusty-tamiya" can't change his e-mail as that e-mail is defunct now and he can't change it, there is the same outcome I have just talked about??

Joel Cheers for the explanation Chris

Hi,

While yous are on the same sort of subject, whenever I go to TC on my PSP it loads up a whole screen full of script. It loads every other site i've ever been on fine, not very fair though as TC is my favourite site. Is this just a problem with my psp, has anyone else tried it?

There are no plans to implement a mobile version at the moment.

When you say "it doesn't work" - do mean you can't navigate around the site and see the pictures or just "it doesn't look the same" - I've not looked for a while now but when I coded it, it was meant to fall back to a text based version for mobile devices which you could still use and was deliver much faster using less bandwidth (as thats a premium for mobile users) - the price was it didn't look like the full pc/full browser site.

if I just go to www.tamiyaclub.com on my psp, it's all just text, nothing readable, and no pictures - Like the Matrix screensaver, but not moving [:D]

Go to a .com/...asp page, it's slightly more like TC, with colours, photos n stuff, but the links and pics are pretty much all over the place, and the text from a link isn't always a link (if that makes sense)
