I am going to HK in June, the last time I went was 10 years ago, and I don't remember where all the r/c shops are located.

There was a specific street/area with loads of them. Someone also mentioned it on TC once.

Can anyone advise where they are?

Thanks!  [:D]

Besure to check out all the shops before buying.  The same item available at store located beside each other could have different prices and is not $1.00 or $0.50 difference. So is worthwhile checking out all the shops first since all the shops are located in the same area.

Don't expect to find old models only the latest stuff can be found; prices are for cash and if pay by credit card can expect to add another 2-4%.

I would get GPMs address and walk around there. Thats what i did last time i was there and found plenty of older stuff. GPM had a Daytone Thunder kit for sale along with some Hang on kits, So be shure to stop by there for fun. I picked up some alloy wheels for my Mini for $20.00. Its hard to believe that GPM is even cheaper than Ebay.

I was there over a year ago and found lots of old stuff. I really found more old stuff than new stuff. Its kinda strange that Tamiya 1/10 would say there is only new stuff, Must have been shopping in a very different part of town.

I will get a map together and send it to you. I might try and post it here as someone else might need it.

Anyway i brought home a Tamiya size box full of parts for $76.00. Everything was at least 15 years old.

Good luck and its looking brighter for your Phatom wheels.  i will have more news on the 17th.

Did I say don't expect to find old parts? bakaguyjean, you must be have cleaned out most  of the old Tamiya parts in Mong Kok or find old models in another Mong Kok located in New Territory, which I wasn't aware off. There is a Tamiya rept. stop by Tung Fung St. that you may find some old parts and another along Waterloo Rd. If you look at the size of most of the stores here and the rent they are being charged, shop keeper cannot generate enough sale from old part, is all about turnovers and cash flow. Sure you'll find some old parts stuff in a box some where in the store and you maybe lucky to find the much needed old parts but don't expect a NIB R91CP or Super Blackfoot, which these models are 15 years old, tucked away some where.  When Singapore_959 do visit Hong Kong he will find out for himself.

Well i dug out my map and these are the roads that i dragged around.Kwong WA St. where GPM is. That whole strip had RC shops. As well as the small shopping center  Between Kwong Wa St. and FA Yuen Street. There was also a small shop on Waterloo Road that had some old kits and a whole wall of old parts. I picked up my 1979 Tamiya catalog there and they had a whole stack. I wonder if that store is still there? Maybe  Tamiya 1/10 could fill us in on that store.

I got so many parts at that store but they had so many left. I m not a rich guy or i would have tried to clear them out!

Well it sounds like all the old kits are gone but you never know.

There is also a cool NO RC Cars sign at a park near by that i thought was funny.

THANKS guys!! [:D] [:D]

TC spirit never fails! [H] Well, I am excited and I am printing out this thread to take with me! I'll also get both the madarin and cantonese phrases for "old rubbish you can't sell"  before I get there! [;)] [:D] [:D] lol!

I am taking as empty a suitcase as possible and will post up the results. "Yes Mr Customs officer, that is 38 25 year old unused rubber tyres in my bag. Don't you know the significance of Tamiya 959 rally blocks? !"   hahaha

I should get a TC sticker to stick over that sign in the park!

If about 2 shop down is a die cast model car shop from the store you are talking about?, is still there and last time I look I recalled seeing a TA03R TRF, and the wall of old parts is there but...keep a low expectation, the locals in the last few years have raided most hobby stores for old kits and parts.  I am not saying you won't find anything but just don't expect a lot of old stuff, but if you do find what you are looking for it will be a nice feeling for nailing the part you've been looking for.

There is a shop and only one shop by Jordan MTR (subway / tube ) station, exit C2 goe to Parkes St or ask around, where you'll find some old NIB parts like the mimi wheels or off set wheels and 1 or 2 old RC kits but they are not cheap, the owner knows about ebay prices.  This is the only shop in that area so prices are not as cheap as the shops in Mong Kok area.  If you are into airsoft guns, Mong Kok is gun haven plus all the hop up gun parts that could that could have you ban from war games .  Bring cash, lots of it.  Monk Kok is the place to shop for running shoes and electronic like cameras.  I don't recommend going there on Sat. or Sun., unless you like crowded places.

The shop on Waterloo Rd. recently has had a re-org of their stocks. Perhaps a change of ownership, not sure. One time I saw a couple packs of NIB Sand Scorcher tires on the display window, they were gone the next weekend when I visited again. Should have snatched them up right at the moment when I saw them! [:(]

The shop may still be the best place for old parts though.

Thanks! [:D]

The list of places is long, I have only got half a day, the other 4.5 will be work!

And one tuesday is a public holiday. - Will the shops be open or closed? [:S]
