Seen a few tasty wheels on a few tasty minis in showrooms, but the choice on ebay / the internet seems a bit restricted.

Can

anyone recommend a manufacturer or supplier of 1/12 rims for standard

hexes?  I'm intending to get on with my M04 Pumpkin Lowrider

project soon, but the 1/10 rims don't fit too well under the

arches.  Some Mini-size wheels will probably fit much better.

Ideally I'm looking for something in chrome or smoked chrome, with a deep offset, to take M03 Mini tyres.

Have you checked out the Mini sized wheels made by Kawada?  I remember wanting some a while ago after seeing them in peoples showroom, but can't remember what they looked like now.

I think rcmart.com sold them

Just remembered I got a set of HPI Vintage

rims at home, but no tyres.  Anyone know if the tyres are smaller

diameter than regalar 1:10 wheels when fitted?

I just put my HPI vintage wheels and tyres on my MO-3 chassis (don't know if there's a difference to the MO-4) and sat my Pumpkin body on it. COOOOOL!!!! I'm gonna buy another MO-3 and Pumpkin body!! The overall diameter of the HPI Vintage wheels and tires is 65mm. The rear wheel arches just sit on the side wall of the tire but the front wheel arches drop right down past the rim. My front wheels are 23mm and the rears are 31mm. So if you use 23's all 'round, they'll all sit under the guards. The 31's look so good though! Check it out.

Thanks Doc, that's just what I had in mind!

I put some tyres

on my black 31mm Vintages last week and the rear is OK, will be better

if I use standard hexes rather than the wide M04 ones - but the fronts

are too wide for steering to work. I will buy some chrome narrow

vintages for the front and chomes for the rear too.  It'll look

just like yours but will be RWD [:D] like all oldschool pickups should

be.

Actually I've drawn up a project plan for my Pumpkin/M-O3 build up, It will be RWD just like it should be. With a few tricks up it's sleeve of course [;)]

I just couldn't stand having a front wheel drive F100! It's just not cricket! HAHA

Sounds cool, Mad Ax, keep us posted on the build. Could be a trend forming here.....

Cheers,

Chris

How

are you going to make the M03 into an RWD chassis?  Wouldn't it be

easier to make an M04 and shorten it to fit the Pumpkin shell, like I

did?  There are details in my showroom of how easy it is to

shorten the M04 chassis.

A few people have made M03 Pumpkin / Lunchbox lowrider projects but like you say, it's just not cricket!!

Quite simple. I've already done it, actually. I just put the rear suspension (free wheeling end) on the drive end of the chassis to eliminate the steering. I removed the rear half of the chassis to leave the motor, gearbox and wheels. Wire the motor backwards or just reverse the signal on the tranmitter and it'll go forwards like a RWD car! Even the axles fit. All I have to change is to use 55mm shocks instead of 50mm. I'm fabricating a complete front chassis to bolt onto the original chassis because the wheelbase on the M-O3 is just that tiny bit out. Plus it's going to have a dropped "I" beam front axle, tilt front end and blown Hemi. [:D]

And there you have it, RWD M-O3 chassis [;)]

Oh.  I see how that would work, but still seems like a lot of

work when you could just use an M04 which are normally cheaper NIB than

M03s off ebay [;)]

Also note that you'll not be able to use any

hot motors with your setup unless they are re-timed to run backwards -

not that you'll want hot motors on a 1/12 RWD chassis anyway, but

thought it was worth mentioning [:D]

That's what I said about mine, except I have a lexan shell that I use

on my Pumpkin, which will also be used for running my lowrider [:)]

Posted

Yeah, I don't think i'll be able to refrain from running mine when it's done, but i'd like to keep it looking pretty. I wish the lexan shell was an option for me 'cause a hard body is proving difficult to find and I want to keep the chrome shell on the Pumpkin.

It is easy, mate. It took me about 15 minutes. I can't see it being any weaker, they're basically the same parts. The drive axles went straight into the carriers and the drive shafts were the right length. All your really doing is eliminating the steering set up.

Well Modelsport really are teh r0xXoRz!11  Vintage chrome rims

and tyres arrived today, just one day after placing the order!

Narrows up front, wides at the rear, should look fantastic.

BTW

Jack did you fit the foam inserts on your vintage rims?  I tried

using foams but couldn't get the tyres to sit properly on the rims at

all.  That said, I don't think I'll be needing foams as I'll need

all the deformation I can get to keep the back end on the tarmac [;)]

I

think I might fit my Trinity Monster's Revenge, lexan shell and foam

carpet tyres and run it on an open carpet-racing night at our club when

it's finished, just for a laugh!!

Are you aware that a 6-cell

pack won't fit sideways under a Pumpkin shell?  You'll need to get

a saddlepack or mount the battery longthways on top of the

chassis.

Posted

Yeah I had no trouble fitting the foam in the tires, a bit fiddly was all. Um, the 6-cell battery pack JUST fit under the shell, (had to sqeeze the wires in) but I might run a small lipo yet. That was the first thing I noticed because I left the battery in the MO3 chassis when I tried the Pumpkin shell on.

I really want to do this tilt front end but things are just going against me at the moment. The blown hemi motor for starters. I completely overlooked the scale!!! Those hemi's are huge to start with but to put a 1/10 hemi in a 1/12 shell..... Oh well, if I can find an old Monogram 1/12  '57 Chevy or '69 Camaro static kit I'll use the engine out of that. (I'll make the Chev motor look like a Ford)

If the tilt front does work out, space is gonna be tight. I'll only have the cab and tray area to fit radio gear/battery/servo etc...

Work really can't start until I get another shell. I don't want to cut into the chrome shell I have... it's too pretty!!

Well, I finally finished mine on Weds night [:D]

No pics yet,

but my biggest concern was where to put the battery.  Unless I

mounted it length ways, the only option was behind the rear axle.

Two

elastic bands later, and the battery now straps up behind the rear

wheels.  This gives appaling handling and rear-heavy driving, it

doesn't donut but boy does it ever wheelie!!

I think I've stumbled on a new thing - the tarmac wheelie car [:D]

Will try to get some videos of it this weekend.

Posted

Sounds great, mate! Just be careful with that rear bumper doing all those wheelies! [;)]

I'm struggling to find parts for mine. I think I might just put it all together on the M-O3 chassis to get it going and leave the tilt front and Hemi for a 1/10 car.... maybe my Clod/Knight Hauler idea hmmmmm...................

Can't wait for the pics and video!
