An invitation to all to meet up at West Wittering on Bank Holiday Monday. Opportunities for  XC and 3 Speed roving amongst the sand dunes, some rallying with whatever you've got amongst the rough, and some Sand Scorching/Buggy racing on the flat at whatever time the tide's out on the day (will post the high and low tide times closer to the day)

There is a cafe, a couple of toilet blocks and a pub not far from the beach itself. 11:00 start, it can get crowded there if its going to be a scorcher, so those who are interested get in touch so phone numbers can be exchanged closer to the day.

Chain Driven, myself and hopefully one other will be there for starters, hope to see a few more.

I'd love to meet up with some TC members, I might be able to make it, but i'm in Essex (about 100 miles away.) I'll see if my mate is interested, we've both got Taureg's and numerous "Used" tamiya's to bring...

This seems to be a common problem, best to go in through the "find a member" tab from the Homepage.

Anyway, good to see that we have some interest, we usually spend the whole day (11:00 'til about 16:30) down there with a picnic over lunch,

and Ryck, if you've got your Goodwood tickets already, let us know what day you'll be available for some beach adventures.

Goodwood is booked for the friday tho Im not sure what day we will be at the beach. Tho it will most likely be for a few hours at least, where abouts do you run at witterings? we prefer to go off in the dunes around the bill or the walk area on the inside of the bill,

Hi Again, Just confirming that me and my mate can make it now, as he's booked the day off work. Any plans for what we'll all do? I'm particually into Buggy racing and Crawling with my Taureg, though I also have a old Subaru Brat, KBF , Grasshopper and a WW2 ready for action.

Hi Ryck and Essex, we go off into the dunes, crawling with the 3-speeds and XCs, this easily consumes a few hours or so, what is interesting is, although we have our favourite places the scenery does get re-modeled due the weather so there's always a new place to find.

Depending on the weather, if the tide goes out without any wind, the sand lies perfectly flat for some buggy and Sand Scorching etc. Unfortunately if there are too many people down there this can cause a problem, although we have found an alternative flat area which is equally suitable where nobody goes. I'll have a look at the tide tables in a few days time to see how the day will go exactly.

Chain Driven and myself will be bringing XCs, 3-Speeds, Minis and probably Rally cars and a Brat, so there's something for everything.

We were taken surprise the other weekend in the dunes, as after five weeks without rain, we were unable to climb our favourite inclines, so we're hoping for some rain the night before as it helps tremendously.

Make sure that receivers and escs are waterproofed or in balloons etc as excitement usually overcomes us and we end up in deep water!

Thanks for the swift reply Mud! Sounds like it will be good fun, I will take your advice and waterproof what I bring. I'm looking forward to seeing a 3-speed in action, as i've only ever seen a new built bruiser, and I didn't want to spend the £800 it was up for!

I do enjoy climbing stuff with my CC01, and i'm looking forward to doing some sand running, as I do all my crawling in a wood at the moment.

Anyway, look forward to seeing you all there!

odd just put in my number 8468

here are the pics of the machines that would be taken down - the first two are mine, and the 3rd is dads, Both the touaregs are proven on the sand last year, tho for the pajero its the first time on soft sand after its taken on the rocks of malvern as well as deep mud,

Sorry, i've not got any pics on the site. I may have a go at doing it before this weekend. I'm in the middle of re-painting my Taureg.. which has a Land Rover shell.. My WW2 is in standard camo, and needs a dab more paint on the driver more, and the grasshopper is ready to go.

What's the best thing to do regarding recharcing batteries? i've got a few packs of cells, but should I get a cheap car battery to recharge from?

Posted

well the normal car battery is good for around 6 packs of 3600 and will still start your car. Thats what we got out of the Landy at Kidd earlier in the year, To be honest tho last time down the beah with the toerags we didnt charge any packs because 2 packs in each car was enough to go round the dunes and back for a couple of hours,

On another note guys, My T3 pajero is based on a dark Impact chassis and I have been wondering is it worth locking the rear diff like the touaregs for the sand, or will this ruin its ball diff atributes?

Cheers Ryck

Posted

Cheers Ryck, Some good info there. I will probably just bring a few charged packs then, as the Taureg's go for quite a while on a pack. As for your Dark Impact, i'm not sure it would be worth locking the Diff unless you want to do some climbing with it. I think ball diff's aren't that easy to lock, if you want to unlock them again afterwards!

- Will.

Chaps, I will have a spare car battery with me if anyone has any worries. Additionally,  the tide times for Monday are High Tide at 10:06 and Low Tide at 15:26. This will mean, aim for some crawling in the dunes at first and then finishing up with some loony stuff on the flat!

Will post my mobile number to all those on this thread over the next few days and some more detailed info on the meeting point etc.

Sorry Ryck, just read your post again, and if you've got the Pajero shell, then you probably want to do some climbing. Might be possible to stick some blue-tac in the diff, as that should slow the diff's action quite a bit. Unfortunately, i've heard the blue-tac breaks down after a while.. and it would be a pain to remove all the diff ball's afterwards... or you could get a spare diff + glue it up... or finally, just tighten the diff's up "a bit" to that the action is fairly stiff, as the darkie should climb well then. I know my DI climbs quite well now i've tightened mine. Anyway, i'm sure someone might have a better soloution...

Posted

Yeah Im planning to take it right into the dunes like my Touareg did last year, That worked wonders with the locked rear diff and throttle control, Maybe I will just get a spare diff and glue it up. The Pajero on sand is a total unknown so the touareg will be around incase it doesnt cope to well.

I'm hoping to bring my TL01 based Baja bug project with various wheel tyre combos if the last parts come through in time, and a few stadium thunders for some dune running.

The hilux 3 speed isn't running yet so can't bring that along or the SS's[:(]

mud-plugger - is that a TL01 RA in ure picture? in which case how does it run? because Im thinking about replacing the TB01 with one of them running on xc tyres (yes shock horror out of scale but who cares) because when u think about it grass running a TB01 is like putting a real rally car through 3 foot tall shrub all the way through the rally lol.

Also whats the dimensions for those tyres as they look nice and wide - as Im looking for a wide set for my pajero,

Cheers Ryck
