Yeovil Meet - Ham Hill

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Would love to meet up again, but the only date I have free is the 7th (Sunday). Off to visit family in Brighton the week before, then off to Butlins for Evan's first Holiday (he was 1 yesterday).

See what happens. If the date doesn't suit others then will catch up again later in the year. Also, only at home on the 6th/7th, so depends on how knackered I am. Can't promise 100% to be there, but will really try!

All the best

Steve

I've got lots of new toys since last year.

You aren't the only one - but most of mine are currently out of action pending parts from overseas! But by early Oct I will have:

Hotshot re-re

Blackfoot Extreme now with 4" ally shocks and 18T motor

TXT with suspension mods

M04 Pumpkin Lowrider for the M-chassis "toilet race"

TL01 Autocross Beetle

Hopped-up Dark Impact possibly on 18T (if some parts arrive in time)

F-150 scale trial truck

Bearhawk on DF03 oil shocks

Corally RDX drift platform (if I can be bothered to set it up)

in addition to the old stuff:

Lexan'd Midnight Pumpkin

Stadium Thunder (if the gearbox holds out)

If I wasn't so busy (and lazy) I'd also have:

Mad Max-style scale truck on TLT axles

4x4 Lunchbox

Clod-axle stick-chassis super-crawler

7th (Sunday).

Sounds good to me - anyone else?

I think Yeovil is probably closest but someone would need to pick you up from the station as Ham Hill. As per the other thread, if you can get to Bath Spa and there's only two of you plus bags you can share the car space with me :D

aww cheers for that, the boyfriend is at work at the mo but like i said earlier i will run it past him and see what he thinks about coming along! I was afraid you were going to say Yeovil was the nearest station but nevermind! If you can hitch us a lift from bath spa then it is def worth thinking about! Obviously we would give you some petrol money. Will let you know what he thinks and if we are def free that day.

Lol, tell him that the best birthday plans involve standing around on cold hilltops playing with RC cars :)

I've postponed a planned girlfriend visit on the 7th so I could make this one :D so don't let me down guys, let's make this the best Ham Hill meet yet :D

Alex has checked his work schedule, and he's fine to come. May also bring a couple of friends. Dave you've met before, and Jerry has some big boy FG toys.

Have we sorted a time out? If not I suggest from 10.30am onwards.

And bring a thermos this time; it was ****ing cold last year and we all got too engrossed playing and forgot the time until we froze up!!

Good point on the temperature! Although the meal afterwards helped... :)

Won't make 10:30 though, so will catch you all later on in the day. Probably about 12:00 for me.

Got to get a 1 year old ready, then an hour and a half journey to get there. Don't put the time back though, as I can catch up later :D

Looking forward to it!

Steve

If only i had realised it was happening sooner then we could have re-arranged things, thing is i already know whats going to happen. The boyfriend has bought me an engagement ring and plans to propose to me that weekend, not sure which day and we have the kids on sunday otherwise his ex will get propper s**tty. Seriously though, if there are anymore coming up in the near future let me know and me and my man will make sure we can get to it. Would have been nice to have broken my new gravel hound in but nevermind!

Charlea - he could propose to you by making you stand on top of a hill and crawling the ring up to you on the back of a TXT!! Everybody knows the best engagement day is one that involves messing around with RC cards :)

I assume this meet is still on unless we have bad weather? Can be a bit cold and windy up on Ham Hill, so wrap up warm and don't let the chill spoil the event. I am feeling slightly hyper so I'll wear some very old clothes and possibly do something very silly from the top of one of the slopes. Bring a video camera.

Ham Hill is here:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...c=addr&om=1

A short distance from Yeovil on the A303, take the exit to Stoke-Sub-Hamdon (just behind a petrol station, just past a big roundabout, if you come from Yeovil direction)

Head towards the village (signposted)

At the narrow t-junction turn left

Take the next right past the pub and go to the top of the hill. Admire the view; try not to run anyone over

Turn left into Ham Hill Country Park and find a parking space near all the big kids playing with toy cars

Put on your warmest jacket and a good pair of gloves

Unload your most favouritest off-road RC and stick in a fully-charged battery pack

Play and play until the end o'the day,

Then we shall away to a pub so gay

And have a munch on a tasty lunch

Washed down with Stella and a Nestle Crunch*

*eating jam wagon wheels for breakfast is obviously not good for my sanity, nor possibly for anyone elses

Tee hee. Nothing wrong with Wagon wheels for breakfast!

I'll be there so I'm off to see what I've got that will run.

Hopefully, will be my: Cheetah, Juggernaut, Gecko crawler and I'll see if the nitro Mad Armour will start.

See ya'll there around 10:30 ish.

Cheers.

Rich.

It's early in the morning, just watching the Chinese Grand Prix, then I'll be jumping in the car and on my way. Slight change of line up, going to give my restored Blazer a run hopefully plus my big 1/8 MRC truck.

See everyone there.

Rich.

We're doing the same thing! Alex & I will see you guys there, with our trucks and Minis.

I've managed to fix Draggin's diffs so it'll be her first stomp in public. :)

I second Rich's comments (and the Gecko is now repaired). Honestly didn't think it would make it up the slope, should have worried more about the fact it was impossible to get over the top once I got up there!

I took (and broke in brackets)

---------------------------------------------

Gecko (1 rod end and 1 motor lead)

Mini Inferno Brushless (broke the brushless ESC)

Mini-T (slipper clutch and diff failure)

RC18T (nothing!)

Well, 3 out of 4 is about right, considering I only really started getting ready last thing yesterday and didn't have time to check stuff

Big thanks to Rich for letting me break his 1/8 MRC truck. It was fun giving it a work over, and the Blazer too. Also thanks to Suzy for a replacement bodyshell for the wife's BMW Mini (after I bashed her original one previous to today) and I LOVE the Draggin!!! Finally, big shout out to both Alex's as they ran more stuff than anyone else I think, including 2 different set-ups on TXT's.

Roll on the next one!!!

Steve

Top shout to everyone for turning up and making it a great day

And a big shout to whoever arranged the fantastic weather

I did pretty well - a whole day's bashing and no broken RCs!

The Dark Impact went very well, the Hotshot re-re was very impressive on its first run, the TXT did some very good climbs and was totally in command on the car crush. I'm a little disappointed in the LRP 18turn motor in the Blackfoot Extreme, very short run-time and not noticeably faster than a BZ in the open - although maybe running it on a better ESC would get more power from it. The Blackfoot is my fave truck but had the shortest run of any yesterday.

Biggest surprise of the day for me was just how capable the lifted and locked F-150 was over pretty much any terrain thrown at it. Tarmac - donuts and powerslides. Grass - very balanced jumps and rolls. Trails - very controlled despite limited ground clearance, climbs almost anything and looks like a totally real truck.

Definately looking forward to the video :P

It was a good day out. Lovely weather, great cars, nice company ;)

Sorry I smacked Rich's front link up with Draggin... ;) I managed to fix my own servo... I'm glad she went so well; I built a mental monster.
