Hi everyone, thought id post my question here too, can anyone help me, my re release frog has a rs540 motor but i want something quicker, im a speed chick, i was thinking of putting a venom fireball 17 turn with no limit esc in my froggy, is this to much for my frog to handle, can anyone give me some advice, and do i need to do anything with the gears (really dont want to go there). Should i think about a higher turn eg 19.

One more thing, does anyone know where i can get any front shocks for my frog?

Come on lads, someones got to help me out, there must be some gentlemen left in the world :D .

Thanks all xx

Well I'd like to help with the motor thing, but I don't have a Frog and I've never used a fireball.

As for the shocks - there used to be after-market conversion kits available when the original Frog was released, but I don't think anyone makes them today.

I'd love to help you out but I'm not sure that I've ever been referred to as a gentleman  , besides, I'm on the other side of the planet.

I'm no moderator but just incase you get in trouble just remember not to post links to live ebay auctions (although that one has now just ended) and dont post the same questions in different parts of the forum.

The law wont chase you but at least we keep the forums clean and clear

Fit a 21 turn motor. I've got a pair of those in my tamiya txt-1, they have great speed and loads of torque so your acceleration will be good without the need to mess with the gear ratio.

Mine are Mtroniks Big Lix motors. They even come with push fit connectors so you dont need to solder the wires on.

I like to use no limit or low turn esc's in most of my runners - keeps things cool and reliable.

A 17 turn motor might damage your froggies differential gear, which is made from soft metal that can strip if the gearbox gets too stressed. A company used to make ball diffs for them back in the 80's, but these are rare nowdays!

Ooopsy,. sorry all, i forgot about that, but it only had 30mins to run and was the only one listed in my search so it wasnt preferential treatment of any 1 seller. Was more of an example of what was on sale.

The Venom Fireball motors are cheap power, perfect for bashing, useless for racing. 19 turn double shouldn't hurt the gearbox/diff but you will need to drop pinion size (they rev higher than stock) to prevent overheating the motor with too much load. Replacement pinions are cheap and come in packs of 2 and is changed while you have the motor out, so no extra work there as you would need to change pinion from the old motor anyway. 17D might be getting a little too hot for a standard 2WD buggy, they suit a stock 4WD buggy better with the extra load of the added driveline. There are better motors on the market in the same class, though they are more expensive.

If you change to a 'hottor' motor you will also need a higher rating battery. 1800 Ni-cd or smaller doesn't last long with a 17D or 19D (around 10min or less). I find a 3000mAh Venom Ni-Mh (also cheap) perfect for just playing about and have quite a long run-time compared to 1400/1500 Tamiya or a good 1800mAh. Good idea too is to get rid of the standard Tamiya battery plugs and fit high volt plugs. This lets the higher rate ESC's work much more efficiently (Takes some soldering).

Better the ESC you can afford the better it will respond. Nolimit is overkill for a 17D/19D, but if you want to use it in another model later when you outgrow the froggie it will save you in the long run. I glue velcro to the bottom of my ESC and receiver and the 'hooked' velcro side to the chassis so I can use the one set in all my cars. Takes about 5min to swap to another car and saves alot of $ when you have shelves full of cars.

As markellie said, front shocks (and most other parts) can be found on ebay, or search with google/look on the instruction book to find the part number and search here in the TamiyaClub stores. Parts get expensive for discontinued cars, I just spent around $800 in parts fully upgrading a Blazing Star buggy.

Anyways have fun, Mark

**Edit: According to the manual the 3 different gearset for Frog are included in the box. Smallest pinion and largest spur for 'hotter' motors of the 3 gearsets you have to choose from.

I've the you-g front dampers for my frog. They work pretty well. But are hard to get hold on.

About the motor, I should say don't buy a fireball. They're pretty ****, a Frog performs really nice with a superstock BZ. Plus the superstock BZ goes really well with the standard TEU-101BK.

Oh, and you can also look for the better available DRP front suspension for the frog.

Thankyou for your help, maybe a 19 turn is still to much for the frog then

I just saw that I made a typo, DRP=CRP

The frog can have a 19T, but personally I should fit it with a Superstock BZ. Because you can still use the standard TEU-101BK esc, and it goes pretty fast with that motor also. And it has a lot of torque.

Also keep in mind that the steering isn't that great on the frog.

Did a quick search and here are the specs:

The RZ motor:

27,500 rpm

4,5 Ncm

The BZ motor:

26,500rpm

4,9 Ncm

The TZ motor:

26,500 rpm

5 Ncm

I will look for the front dampers, You'll get a PM when I found some B)

Hope this helped you a bit. I've very good experience with the BZ, I personally should go for the RZ or the BZ.

How about a top force? It's one of my favs. Performs really good, and looks nice. All you need for it is an alloy motormount (10 dollar at asiatees.com). Ball bearings and a faster motor.

mmm maybe, it is a nice looking car

I do like the Top Force. I have brushless setup in mine. Goes really quickly  , and handles well for an older design. Robust and also cheap enough to repair if needed, as plenty of TA-01 parts about
