With soooo many to choose from what would be the next off roader to get, want something that looks nice and is generally fit ( and No im not katie price, a guy once said hey you look like Jordan, no way my **** are that big lol, what thats got to do with RC i dont know, us girls just talk and talk about anything, Married men will know this!! ) Anyway it must be fast or gears must be able to take at least a 15 turn, also strong enough for lady drivers ( at least behind the wheel the worse your going to get is some bruised legs hehe) What really is the best Tamiya off road buggy, now theres a question !?!

The best and fastest Tamiya buggy is for sure the new TRF 501X.

Its a pure competition machine. Designed to win the World Champion title for Tamiya.

If you want a fast and stable machine, go for the Tamiya DF-03 based buggies like the Dark Impact , Keen Hawk or the new Avante Mk.2.

Full ball bearings and ball diffs out of the box. Lots of Hop Up options available. And with the optional slipper clutch, it can handle even the fastest motors.

Cheers

The 501X is a competition buggy and therefore doesnt come with tires. This is due to the fact that when you race, the tire choice varies from day to day and even round to round as driving conditions change and thus this leads to a change in tire choice. And to be honest its not really worth Tamiya developing a single racing tire to include in the kit as it wouldnt be able to cover all the different surfaces out there that are found in competition racing.

I don't blame you, mate. Just remember, no matter what someone tells you is "best", someone else will almost always suggest something better. Which isn't a bad thing but it does make deciscions difficult. My train of thought is; start collecting, get as many as I can and then decide which car is the best for me. I don't race or anything so nothing I buy has to be competitive. I just buy what I want at the time. That's the beauty of this hobby.

If you want a buggy that can take some bashing, the good ol' 4wd Baja Champ or Baja King are inexpensive, lots of hopups and motor choice, and easy to fix with loads of spares available. They may not be the 'best', but they can stand up to some off-road grief if you just want something to 'play' with.

My husband still reckons his Champ is faster and more fun to muck about with than his fully-loaded Gravel Hound.

Me... I'll stick with my monster trucks :o

The txt-1 is a dead cool truck. But its designed more towards hard off roading - like rock climbing or muddy fields and stuff.

Out of the box its probably the slowest off road tamiya you can get. It doesnt come with any ball bearings either, and you'll need a high spec esc to power twin motors.

I've got mine fitted with two 21 turn motors, running 2 batteries. Its got some serious torque and will climb up anything - but i guess top speed is still limited to about 16 mph (doesnt matter what surface its on though, nothing stops it :o)

I really want to get a Dark impact and mount a truck shell onto it - as i dont like modern buggy bodies.

Sorry for not telling you it needed the other essential things too and telling you to read the threads in here including the oOple report and build, but I did say its expensive didnt I ? ( see my PM to you).

Mines getting a Novak GTB 4.5R combo fitted as the Checkpoint 19Turn was not fast enough for our jumps etc. it should clear them plus some 20 odd feet past them now Ha ha there goes the bank account for the spares I never got in time Ha Ha.

Well good luck with your seach for the right one for you, DI from the reports could be the alternative if you want 4wheel drive, other than that the good old dare I say AE RC10 B4 2 wheel drive is what most buggy users start or end up with.

Sorry to have got you mad glad you have cooled down now though; I sometimes go through the same process when I for get to read all the small print Ha Ha Old age catching me out again!!!!!!

imho 501X easily the UGLIEST shell ever designed on any tamiya buggy... :(

DF03 chassis (DarkImpact, KeenHawk, AvanteEEEWww!) is a great design & works well.

Quite partial to the DarkImpact shell especially if you don't paint it all black... different colours works well.

Nice handling & a great home for a powerful motor. And kit comes with full bearings and tyres!

The TXT-1 is by far the coolest truck Tamiya has produced in years (except the High Lift). Although it is slow in stock form you just need some quicker motors to liven it up. It's realistic, a pleasure to build & by far very sweet to look at. It's an "all around" kit. Great for mudding, bashing & crawling all in one box. Think about how you want to use it & modify it accordingly. I'm currently saving my funds to buy 2 more :( !

If you want a Tamiya and likes to go fast, don't buy any re-release. Get a Dark Impact or Keen Hawk.

I now have a DARK IMPACT !! Now its the ultimate hop up time
