Hi all,

Is it me or are most ESC as sensitive as a woman (no offense). My 1st ESC was a "cheaper" ROCAR which lasted for 10 goes whith my car. It had a 17T limit and when I put in a 17T in my TL-01 whith sport tuned gears, okay it had to burn up. Then I bought a much more expensive Nosram Patrio Reverse whith a 7T / 180A limit. I have ran it now for more than a year and it worked fine... untill our Dutch Basher meeting. I had a 23T motor with Sport Tuned Gear set in my TL-01B. It ran fine all day. The motor went hot, no prblemn. After a 30 min. break, I tried to run it again... DEAD..

Now I'm trying to reset the ESC but it does not respond. The LED will go green if I put it forward and red in reverse, but resetting it won't work. The steering servo works (offcourse).

Now, Nosram has a lifetime guarantee, WHEN I would have filled the warranty card when I bought it.....

This @%$#^% me off since I have done nothhing strange with my ESC. I read all the stries of people blowing up their ESC, is this so common???

My questions is bassicly: "What ESC should I buy next?" for a 7T motor...??

EDIT:

Okay, it was not the ESC. The ESC had a bunch of sand in it and that was the reason for the reset button to get stuck. What happened is that the motor had burned through... It is a stock motor but I can see a winding laying loose....

Yes sand and water and other debris will ruin an ESC, but so will over gearing and bad soldering. Your joints need to be as near perfect as you can get them and throw away the Tamiya style connectors and get Deans. If yours came pre-soldered, then changing the connector will greatly reduce the resistance to the current load and make things run much cooler. Next, if your ESC is rated to run a 7 turn motor, don't run a 7 turn motor but a 10 or 11. That lower number is the maximum it will run and the slightest overgearing will fry it in short order, it would be better to use an unlimited turn ESC, yes I know they are more money, than to keep burning up expensive electronics. I don't know about Nosram, but most manufactures knowing that you can buy anything will repair their products with the hope of keeping you as a customer whether or not you sent in the warranty card. Finally, location of the ESC in the car and getting it into the airflow will greatly enhance the ability of the heatsinks to do their job, if it is hidden behind a bulkhead or the receiver or a servo, then it is going to run hotter and reduce its life. I have my first Novak Super Rooster and it is still working very well. I still think that you need to pay closer attention to the gear ratio, this is born out by burning up a stock turn motor, go in 2 tooth increments until it is running too hot, then it is time to change either the motor or the ESC, good luck!
