Hi Guys,

I have an original short wheel base Schumacher C.A.T. (Competition All Terrain) I bought on ebay a while back. The car is in very good overall condition, and has never been run, though there are a couple of annoying issues.

Whoever built it didn't do a very good job, they mounted the period electronics with self tapping screws on either side of the ESC and receiver putting ugly holes in the chassis. Also there is a cutout in the body in front of the windscreen for some weird reason. Otherwise it is pretty much mint.

What I was wondering is if anyone knows how you could fill unwanted holes in a fiberglass chassis, so that they are far less noticeable. Also is there anyone in Australia who could mould me a new body/undertray/wing/belt cover or two if I was to make moulds?

Anyway I have attached a few pics.

Cheers,

Doug

Are you in melbourne?

If you make moulds, I'll make bodies.

Cheers

p.s. You can either make up new chassis plates, or fill the holes with epoxy an talcum powder. Done carefully you will not be able to notice them.

Well looking through some boxes of old parts I found a good short wheelbase chassis. The only thing is that it has been painted in flat black enamel. I'll have to look at some options to strip the paint off.

Haven't heard anything back about getting some bodies made up. I've been looking into making my own vacuum forming machine. I'd love to make reproductions of the SWB cat, XLS cat, and Frewer Dog bodies, as well as undertrays, and belt covers. See what happens.

Vacuum former would be a great thing to have !

My school had one big enough for 12th scale bodies, or maybe just about 10th scale buggy bodies.

I was big into 12th scale stockcars at the time, so I made a mould for some different bodies for those.

Turned out great, sold a few to the guys at my club quite cheaply as I recall !

Biggest pain was making the mould, it has to be SUPER SMOOTH, as even the finest of detail shows up, although if you have a body already I would imagine casting from it would be excellent !

Good luck with it, and as a CAT XLS owner, I might be interested in what you can produce !

Hi, I haven't really gone any further with this project as yet. I have found a source of material which should be suitable for short run moulds, I just need to find time to go and get it. I have had the offer to have bodies made up if I make up a mould, though I'd really like to build my own vac forming machine.

At the moment I have been distracted with my rc planes and trying to get one of my old Procats together to go and race 4WD modified at a localish track. The car has been sitting in a box with another Procat in pieces for over ten years. Has taken a lot more effort to clean it all up and get it back together than initially expected. Also I sidetracked myself by purchasing an RC10B3 Team car for the hard anodized shocks to go onto the Procat.... Only problem is I bought an extra B3 and am also fiddling with them now. Hmm, to many projects not enough time. LOL!
