Hi there,

The kids and I already have four off road trucks but my son wants a rally car, but which is the best chassis to go for?

We need something that'll be good on slabs/tarmac but might also cope with short grass. The TT-01 chassis seems to be the most popular one but from what I've gleaned on here the TB-01 is tougher and can give better ground clearance. Is this chassis still sold or is the TB-02 the replacement? What are the pros and cons of these chassis, are parts available and where can you buy TB chassis based cars?

Thank you.

The TT01 is only popular because its cheap, and whilst it is a faster car than the Tb01 it curcially isnt a better car - As I have just posted on another thread the TT01 needs extensive work for going anywhere off road, meanwhile the TB01 simply needs some longer shock ends to raise the suspension, It uses proper cup joint and driveshafts not some that comes from the Early Learning centre, Its also much stronger and more modular in design meaning that when it does break its quicker to fix and less parts are affected.

Also that tub super strong and able to keep a lot of the debris out espically when used with the TB01 dust cover.

As for the TB02 yes its superb great, I have one for my touring car but thats really what it is. A touring car - the front suspension design only allows about 15mm downtravel with the front suspension hub carriers hitting the lower arms.

So in conclusion I would have to recormend the TB01, A real rally car.

I would have to recommend the TB01, A real rally car.

Cheers, that was the impression I got from reading the other threads I've found. However, what I can't find are cars for sale based on this chassis. There are loads of TT-01 cars obviously and a few on the TB-02 but I've not seen any on the TB-01. Ideally he wants a rally car like a Subaru or Focus, are these available?

Also, are there plenty of parts available for the TB-01 chassis? Again I've seen tons of bits for the TT-01 but I assume you can get similar parts for the TB-01?

Thanks again guys :0)

Yes there are parts avaliable - Tho they can be tricky to find at times - I am currently selling a TB01 with the full LA set to the tc member cossack.

However Carking has 2 for sale as I understand - please see the thread on TB01 value that in general discussions at the moment.

So you can't buy the TB-01 cars new then? I'll have a look at those used ones but I'd rather buy new, these cars take some pounding!

yes they are around new - Take a look on ebay there are often a couple from sellers in the far east and America, alternatively stores like rcmart and stella can often have them in stock. And as a last resort German ebay seems to be quiet good for older tamiya stuff.

Personally whilst I do prefer new the TB01 is so hard that a used one isnt much different bar the scratches on the underside that a new one still develops. Its such an over engineared chassis :D
