Hey everyone.

I've been thinking (ut oh :D )

There is a serious amount of models in the showrooms, and although many are stock, or close to being as tamiya intended - lots of the models have a huge amount of hopups installed, or have been transformed with home produced parts.

Take clod busters for example. Many mod clods have ended up being posted as "misc", because only the clod axles remain. Mod clods are hard to find, mixed in with runners, projects, new built ect...

What about sand scorchers? It would be cool to be able to find all the modified SRB's in one go - like ones fitted with vintage hop ups or things like Twinsets alu chassis.

I'm guessing that when we enter our modified models to our showrooms, instead of listing them as "projects" (which usually contains broken non runners), or the usual "new built", "runner" etc... we could enter their status as "Modified"?

Obviously it would take a while for new models to filter into a new status option, but i'm sure if the word got around the club we'd be able to bring together modified tamiyas in an easy way.

I dont want to simply create an SIG for modified stuff, that would be a bit vauge. And i dont want to create SIG's for single modified models (like a modified monster beetle group for example) as that would take models away from established SIG's - and still wouldnt make models turn up in a normal model search.

So a new status setting - Modified - what do you think?

I like the idea.

I've modified my Blazing Star so much there isn't much left that is from the orginal kit. Lower arms, gearbox cases, f&r bumpers, tyres and body is all that was used from the kit. Rest is hopup or Top Force parts. It's still very much a Blazing Star to look at and to drive, but it's in a grey area when it comes to classifying. I will be doing similar to my '97 Subaru TA03F soon with a GT-40 body and RWD/Rear motor.

'Modified Tamiya' would be the ideal class for them both.

I agree it would be very useful - I mean my Pajero T3 - Its listed under kyosho because thats where the shell came from - despite being based on a very hacked DF03. with parts from the TB01 thrown in for good measure.

I think that it could be very useful tho I would split it to

x <50 less than 50% tamiya parts left

and

x >50 greater than 50% tamiya parts left

So people can search more acurately for the kind of mods they want to do, just add a four link to there pajero xc, or to replace the front with a tlt axle?

Still a gd idea, well done :D

Yupp!!!

Count me in!!!

BUT no custom paint under the cat: Modified!!!

I dont see custom/non boxart as modified!!!

But how do we do with smaller stuff?

Like my WW2 whos got alu swayarms front and back, should that go under modified?

Maybe two cat modified?

One stock modified (real hopups tamiya/kyosho etc)

one Custom modified (custom parts as twinset, cherrybomb, kamtec etc)

What do you guys think?

Or what did you (MMBIB) have in mind?

Cheers

This was discussed many, many moons ago, and the main stumbler was what 'qualifies' as modified - Blue alu wheelnuts enough?

If you were of the pedantic persuasion, you could pretty much count anything not 'box art' as modified (away from the manual)

As for 50% not original, would that be weight, parts count, or liquid displacement of parts removed? :(

I'm all for 'got a lot of aluminium on it' though :D

There is no 'status' as such but there is already to find pretty much the same thing.

If you go to the search page http://www.tamiyaclub.com/advancesearch.asp

you can search for all sorts, from homemade parts, crawlers etc etc.

You'll find stuff as long as people classify them correctly (which would be the same as a new status) By breaking things down into 'attributes' that complement status it means we don't end up with millions of status that confused people.

(eg if I had a new built which contained homemade parts then I could select New Built and tick the 'containst home made parts' bit, same if its a runner - to combine them would effectively make 4 status - you can see how this would soon perm up)
