This question keeps coming up time and time again so I thought Id make a thread..

All us DF03 owners know how tight the space is inside the chassis which makes it like an oven inside with fast turn motors.

People have had some idea's on how to solve this problem...

1 Get a lower turn ESC

2 Add a fan to your ESC, some people have had to mount there ESC with a fan sideways and have cut a half moon circle in the chassis

3 Cut the front window out the shell to cool inside

I was talking in a thread with some other TC members and I was wondering what you thought of this .......

Make some vent shapes out of plain stickers, stick to the body shell (where the esc is), cut the vents out using a craft knife, cover the vents with mesh for a nice looking finish, do this both sides or just one??

I think this would look quite nice and eye catching done well. Better than butching the chassis and cheaper than replacing the ESC and better than cutting the window out.

What do you all think, would this idea work??

Is it a crazy idea or a good one??

Thanks

well the keen hawk does have a "funnel"scoop above where the window is a little like a bigwig style vent, this could easliy be removed and still look good. but the air flow from here wouldnt make much difference to the electrics inside as th are crammed into the small side parts, an ESC with a fan like the novak GTB works as treat and i have yet to hit thermal cutout on it.

i also had the same problem with it getting hot under the shell, its currently got a super stock TZ in it, i tried a few esc's from mtroniks tourer (20 turn limit) and a nosram hawk (18trn limit) both hit thermal shut off in about 10 ish minutes. I then tried a cheap ripmax unlimited qand this ran fine.

I reckon you dont necessarily need a fan but something with a decent heatsink. but a fan does make it look cool

Does your novak GTB mount flat and not sideways?

Ive got a Novak XRS in mine could I mount a fan with it lying flat, looks tight to me?

I've just opened up the vents on my DI for the summer. It doesn't make much difference whether the vents are open or not. Mud and dust will still get in the car. Don't forget the motor is completely exposed too.

A previous thread which was started on the initial release of the car, may have the answers to your questions:

I start chipping in half way through.

I don't know if you guys are aware about this stuff yet or not but there is an interesting cooling system just about to hit the market for leccie cars, he also does kits to fit Esc's and Nitro engines but they aren't on the site yet.

I'll be getting one for my F-350, even if it doesn't need it, sure looks cool though

Now Now, you know better than to show Helen new forms of bling!! That would look cool in a truck like the 350 but would seriously suck in DF-03 IMHO. That radiator would have to be mounted in such a position that it would be destroyed in minutes. I think that a vent hack is called for (with mesh behind it) and if not the front window. I dont think it matters where the air is coming in as long as its moving. This isnt just a problem for the receiver and ESC but as i see it the Motor heat bars are lacking in air too, at least on the Dark impact anyways

Maybe some cut out vents by the heat bars so you can see even more blue bling hahahaha

Thats funny eh, you would think they would be black for better heat transfer. Guess its more about looks than functionality

No black would just make it worse I think. Black would just absorb more heat from it suroundings and make its self even hotter. When you have a directly linked heat sink it doesnt matter what colour the part is.

I think the best thing to do would be to remove the left hand vent and some of body shell just in front of the motor. That way you would get constant air flow over the speed contoler when the buggy is moving. If you where realy infusiastic you could put a small fan in the cut out just infront of the motor and suck the hot air out of the body. You could also cut out the other vent to gain more air flow into the body. just my 2p

Oh and by the way I dont think the water cooling thing will work, I mesured one the over day and im pritty sure its to tall to fit with out dont a bit of hacking to the surounding parts.

Lets all just buy a no limit ESC and put our knives away lol, Oh just remebered I started this thread :)

run the DI without body.....most cool! :)

Yeah but ugly and lacking protection for those lovely delicate 3 core wires we like to call electronics. I'm not a good enough driver to keep the car on all 4's all the time, lol

Also somewhat pointless to spend money to buy a No limit ESC when you dont plan going below 19T motor in the car.

Sooo, break out the knife and CUT CUT CUT.. I think i might take out the vents tonight (both or it will look unblanaced and ugly) and will report back

I forsee having the same problem. 10t limit with an 11t motor. EEE...

Looks like all you men need some slits

Always comes back to the same thing, lol. I will report my result after the "butchering" of the vents. Our weather has cooled off alot though so i am going to have to wait to see how well it works

look forward to finding out then I can put some vents in mine, do you guys think that the keen hawk body is more cooling???

That's what i want to know since i'm looking into buying a keen hawk soon. I would think so since the keen hawk has more curves so it wont contour the chassis quite as much but i'm better off just waiting for someone with a keen hawk to reply.

any info would be greatly appreciated
