Tt01 In Danger

Recommended Posts

hi everyone,

I have a simple question for you.

I bought the #53619 RC CVA Mini Shock Unit Cyl for my TT01, they don't fit. Shock body is too long. What can I do ???

No one answered my question concerning my loose steering rack for this same car.

Does everyone here drives a TT01 that can't go straight ahead ???

Thank you

At the end of the day a tt01 isnt really a hi performance car unforunatly. You could try putting the alloy steering upgrade that tamiya sells, but I've got to be honest I dont really see the piont. It might be worth going to you local hobby shop with one the the step screws and a bell crank to see if you can find any brass tube to to make a bush out of.

so is the tt-01 a good car in the end, or is it a waste taht can be avoided by buying an other tamiya on-road car.

I think if you put too strong a motor in it, it is a waste. Imagine putting a 1500hp motor into a Fiat Punto/ Ford Escort/ Vauxhall Astra etc... it just wouldn't go straight... that is what you have with the TT-01

I drove one stock TT-01 and I was not impressed, Tamiya should have backed the TB-02 harder than it has...

bushes are the biggest cause of sloppiness...

when you say "it doesn't want to go straight" what exactely do you mean?

A. the front wheels always turn and wobble.

B. the back of the car overtakes the front.

C. it darts from side to side at speed.

D. I am constantly over-correcting the steering inputs which makes for a snaky ride.

I would suspect the possibility of D.

But, here are some options for the others...

A. check the wheel bearings and the linkages for the steering, if there is slop in the arms or wheels, it could cause this. (install metal bearings if not already)

B. install the alloy prop shaft. get a rear ball diff.

C. check proper steering servo response, check for glitching, check for wheelbase differences left to right. grease the suspension arm pivots.

D. Go slower, practice, put in a slower motor and become the best **** driver out there.

I am not a champion driver, I dont race, I never have, but in my Mini M03 with a 23turn motor, I was beating my friends in our friendly race, because I was smooth... not choppy.

Smoothness is important.

my friends have 9 turn motors and 11X2T motors in their minis and these cars don't go straight...

I guess it comes back to the first statement, don't put a Ferrari engine in a mini car...

As for the shocks, did you buy a set that said they were for the TT-01? or did you just buy a set?

The TT-01 needs the shortest CVA dampners. like the mini cvas

your options are thus...

A. get shocks that are designed for it.

B. use the shortest posssible lower eyelets on the shocks you have.

I said before that I thought the TT-01 was a bad platform, but that is choice, I also drove a TL-01 and I think it is a really bad platform, but others here love them.

I suggest practice and sower motors for the handling.

of course, the kit box shocks are probably the worst thing ever made by Tamiya and only good for shelf queens...

no offense meant to anyone, i just hope it helps.

In the long run, except for the fact that there are few "hop-ups" for it, the TB-02 is a much better car, so good, infact, that it only needs one hop-up... the alloy ball race steering set, and all that does is improve steering response, (that is: makes it quicker and lighter) I ran a fully stock TB-02 for a year, it could do anything, drift.. rally.. carpet... road... they come stock with bearings and oil shocks and a much better chassis (like the TC3)

anywho, have fun and practice.

In my opinion the ali steering can cure most of the steering slop and I would get turnbuckles to replace the plastic links to the wheels and the servo horn as it gives you a lot more options in toe in and out.

Also check the amount of play in the wheels on the stub axle, if you have the plastic stock bearings then there is not much you can do about it except go for the ballrace kit (Time Tunnel, Mr Bear are around the cheapest and good value) as this usually takes out that slop and improves the speed even with the stock silver can motor.

The cheapest is probably use PTFE tape on the bushes to take up the gaps, get it from your local plumber/ DIY shop.

Theres a guy in my club that beats some of the top drivers around in 27 turn class with a bog standard silver can, so initially dont bother upgrading motor till you sort the steering and get the hang of the handling beat, it just adds to the problem you have; good luck which ever way you choose anyway

"The cheapest is probably use PTFE tape on the bushes to take up the gaps,"

That's the kind of tip I was looking for.

I'll use it everywhere even for the bearings.

Thank you
