It seems to me that a massive amount of WOs have been popping up on this page for quite some time now..

IS the WO taking the spot as "Most desired"??

And IF it is, howcome?

You, who have bought WOs recently. WHY have you got them?

Are you going to RUN them or just keep them safe?

How good condition did it come in?

How good is the condition now?

Personally, i have always loved the WO because of its aggressive looks and realism, and i have always wanted one.

Some time ago, i decided to get hold of at least 1 of them, but ended up with 3, which is perfect. 1 for the shelf, 1 for running (and it surely does), and 1 NIB, which will stay that way. (Untill i cannot stand the desire to build it anymore, LOL)

Sofar, my experience with hopping up the car is very limited, but it has proven to perform WAY better on a full set of Hornet / SC wheels, which has plenty more grip than the original "Super Gripper" tyres, which, in my opinion is WAY to hard in the compound for good offroad-running..

Looking forward to hearing from the other WO owners out there.. Especially the "New owners". :)

Cheers..

Hi Michael,

as I wrote everywhere I didn't plan to have a Wild One. It was too old when I did came in the Tamiya world in 1986/1987 so I never considered it when I was a guy. For this reason I never considered it in my collector activities.

Checking the trade rooms for a Midnight Pumpkin I've seen a member selling a decent one so, I don't knoe why, I contacted him and I bought it for a now cheap price. Anyway as every for me new car I had been very excitated to receive the box.

Now what cai I say. I went fashinated by this car. It will be a shelf queen so I mounted and painted the body with a care I never had for a r/c car and believe me I care too much these cars. I needed a week to cut the body, paint it and apply the decals. Usually for a shelf queen I need 3/4 days.

I suppose Tamiya will re-re the WO or the FAV, this is my idea, and don't know if all these WO popping out is casual or not.

Cheers

One of the first Tamiya cars I ever saw running was a Tamiya Wild One. That was a very long time ago ! Of course I couldn't afford one then but always wanted one. I finally acquired a NIB but don't have the heart to build it. I just stare at it in awe. Maybe some day the Big T will satisfy me with a re-release . . . . .

I own a Wild One for several years now and I love it for its scale look and handling. I don't use Hornet wheels & tires on the Wild One -somehow they don't look right, while the original wheels dimensions look dead on. Grip is a problem though, I can't run the original tires at the local track as the car keeps spining out of control (hard packed track with lots of dust). I was thinking of using bow ties but the 2.2" tires on a Wild One look odd, so I'm now toying with the idea of cutting bow ties to fit the original 2" rims. btw: the original tires work really good in wet conditions.

Nice with some replies. ;) Keep m coming, guys..

Actually, Snake, the SC / Hornet wheels dont look that weird on the car.. Kinda like the FAV, only with knobby rear tyres. :D And trust me, especially when running on the surface you describe, it will feel like a brandnew car. :o

Cheers..

I agree with you all!! Awesome buggy and so realistic. I alwyas wanted a Wild One, now i have three and four FAV's!! With the S/S rims they definately look more realistic. I just hope the interst in them, and the amount popping up on e-bay, don't mean there's a re-release around the corner?? The prices have also been creaping up too.......

I never though I would go for a buggy, but the Wild One (and FAV) are just so scale looking it was hard to resist! Mine was bought as a project, and I slowly amassed spares as time went on. Like many of the earlier kits the attention to detail is superb and there are a fair few metal parts on it too.

I think they will always be a popular Tamiya kit as they have the scale looks and actually drive not too badly for their age.

And IF it is, howcome?

Always fancied one - scale looks look amazing.

You, who have bought WOs recently. WHY have you got them?

I bought a new in box one which will be built, stunning model for the shelf. But wanted a runner so bought one through the trade sections recently.

Are you going to RUN them or just keep them safe?

NIB will be safe, the runner will defiantly NOT be safe

How good condition did it come in?

Really good, need a drivers head though. Body was good but not in standard colours so bought a new body set and will be painted box art.

How good is the condition now?

same as above as i'm waiting for bits to arrive (only got it this week)

Overall i've never run a Wild One so I have no idea what to expect, i'll strip it down fix owt that's broke or wants fixing, paint new body and go enjoy..

PS if anyones got a Wild One driver head let me know TA!

How's this for 'new owner' Just had one arrive today, bought off local trading site.

And IF it is, howcome? Always loved the look of the Wild One since I first saw it in a local hobby shop all those years ago.

You, who have bought WOs recently. WHY have you got them? As above

Are you going to RUN them or just keep them safe? Safely run it. Nice slow cruises along the dunes. I would love to have a NIB at some stage.

How good condition did it come in? Pretty da*m good actually. Body needs replacing, and tracking down a couple of parts as I type.

How good is the condition now? Same as above. Only just got the radio gear in tonight.

Its fun, fun, fun , fun,

till your daddy takes the batteries awaaaay ! :P:D:D

My favourite runner car of all time.

It gets the most use, it can be lent to first timers or kids, lasts ages on one pack, and is suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper fun on wet or dirty tarmac.

I just lean against my real car with old rock music cranked up thru the open window and play with the WO on the street directly after a rainstorm.

RWD is never more fun. ;):)

I've wanted one for a while after seeing one in action on a TC movie.

I've held off buying one as i've got a feeling it's about to be re re'd

Looking forward to getting a re re and building it for running. ;)

I have a runner

I put Fox gold wheels on it and I run a 21 turn motor and a tamiya esc Futaba radio. Re-release frog/brat dogbone driveline and full bearings.

Fun car, looks like a real buggy so I guess that is why I bought it.

Gonna get me some Frog universals. Didn't realize that the diff fitted aswell. Sonds like the `ol Wild One could be somewhat of a racer, if the right gear is used. Not that there anything wrong with a slow cruise along the dunes with some RR wheels and tyres to give it that all important WOW factor.

Hopefully it is a conspiracy to flood the market before they re-release it. Have to do something like the new forg though to fix those reear drive shafts.

If someone would just CNC a billet gearbox casing for W1, it'll be bulletproof!

(now that the Frog has given us universals & a better diff)

I agree with you on this one. I dont have a WO anymore but a nice alloy gear box that holds everything together would be great,

Then when people ask" what the turn limit for a Wild one" you can say there isnt one. :) Or at least something better than a sport tuned.

I love 'em , i have 3 new ones - 2 are in construction ,and i have a fabulous runner ,and one is a pile of new parts .I dont have a spare head Simon , but here is my take on Ray Lynch

Really cool that so many are now building and running the WOs,, Actually, i might be running one of my FAVs even more.. It also runs great, and the tyres on that model are superior to the WO tyres when it comes to grip and handling. Not even the lack of decent shocks seems to make a difference when running the standard motor..

And yes, with the Frog re-re, it wont be difficult to stock parts to keep them WOs going for a loooong time. (Hopefully)...

I might have a spare drivers sprue lying around.. I will have to doublecheck though. :)

Perhaps a "special interest group" for WO runners would be in place?..

Cheers..

Beside the SRB's and the Avante series 4WD's, I would certaintly rank it up there IMO, I want one!! I seem to see more as well on the front page..

I just picked up a nice used WO to build into a runner, and have a few questions that I think would be good info for those running them:

1) Which exact parts should be transplanted from the re-re Frog to improve the drivetrain?

2) What's a good motor to run for improved performance w/o killing run time? Dirt Tuned?

3) What's a good wheel/tire combination? I see a lot of people mentioning re-re Frog/Hornet parts for better performance, low price, and scale looks. I care more about performance than looks and price (within reason of course).

4) What sort of improvements, if any, should be made to the stock dampers?

5) Any other tips for a strong runner?
