Anyone got an educated (or even ignorant) guess what the next re-release will be, or for that matter, if there will be any more? I got burned recently - I restored a Hotshot I at quite considerable cost, and literally weeks after I finished, the re-release was announced! So, rather than hoping for something to be re-released, I'm wondering what vintage Tamiya I could restore without having my thunder stolen, and without feeling like I wasted my money. I'm thinking Porsche 959. Surely too complicated/costly to justify a resurection?

I think any plastic RC kit by Tamiya has a much greater chance for re-issue, than the metal kit. Resorting old model will cost you an arm or leg and could take forever to secure the missing or damaged parts. On the other hand true collector will always place a greater value on the orginal vs. the re-issue and the bright side is that your restored Hotshot could now be 100% shelve queen and you can buy the re-issue and run it like is meant to.

I would guess Tamiya can easily re-issue the Sand Rover / Hoilday Buggy / Wild One / Fast Attack since is pretty easy to mfg and licensing rights may not be an issue.

I would love to see a full Rough Rider or Sand Scorcher re-release (although I think the Tamtech Buggy Champ is as close as we're going to get), but realistically, I think it highly unlikely. But hey, the last time I said I'd like to see the Hot Shot re-released but didn't think we'd see one... look what happened!

I could see these being re-released eventually:

Astute/Super Astute (most likely)

Wild One (Yay! New 2WD rear oval blocks!)

Fox

Monster Beetle

Boomerang/Super Sabre

Super Shot (but would have to pick another motor for it such as a Dirt Tuned)

Egress

TA-01 Skyline (it's a landmark car after all)

Mad Cap

Do a search for the 'coffee pot minis' promotion that Tamiya did a couple of years ago...or just look here http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...42180&id=16 ...It featured a variety of miniatures of some of the vintage R/Cs. Nearly all of them from that promo have had the full size car re-released (Hotshot being the latest). The only ones from that promo that have yet to see a re-re are the Boomerang, Astute and Rough Rider.

I'd say expect a full Boomerang re-re, an Astute 2 (similar design principle to the Avante 2007....old bodyshell on modern chassis) and a modernised SRB along the lines of the way the Hi-Lift recreated the spirit of the Toyota Bruiser.

Of course there have been other re-releases not related to the coffee pot promo (Lunch Box and Subaru Brat) so other re-releases could be in the pipeline. My guess would be FAV, Wild One, Monster Beetle and Blackfoot.

Surely with the Hotshot re-re, the Boomerang & Super Sabre can't be far behind ? Lots of shared parts - Gearbox, front and rear suspension arms.

Will we see a Bigwig re-re for its 25th anniversary ?

Would really like to see the Sand Rover & Holiday Buggy re-re'd too - nice simple kits suitable for both the new R/C modeller and the nostalgic enthusiast !

My money is on a Monster Beetle re-re next up. It was/is hugely popular and they don't need to do much to re-re it seeing as how it shares a lot in common with the Frog/Brat. Even though they've re-re'd the Hotshot I would be surprised if they re-re'd all the cars based on that chassis. I'd put my bets on the Wild One probably soon too.

The Blackfoot series of trucks is exactly that. Tamiya first evolved the ORV space frame chassis for the super and king blackfoots - and finally used a totally new chassis for the extreme, which shares the twin detonator platform. None of them are re releases!

Tamiya have already re released the pumpkin as a metallic special.

I'd like to take an ignorant guess -

The sand scorcher will be re released, but in tamtec gear form on the buggy champ chassis.

The mudblaster and monster beetle could be re released, although tamiya still have many parts trees to re tool for them, as they only share the A parts, rear suspension and gearbox parts with the frog and brat. I'd buy at least 3 MB re releases, i hope they make one!

Yeah the Boomerang seems a logical choice. It was the best developed of the 'Shot series cars and was hugely popular. The Super Sabre was a sales flop so I doubt whether we will see that re-re'd. I hope not...it's ugly!

Bigwig? Very unlikely. It was the 10th anniversary car and Tamiya would not want to contaminate that legacy. It also has lots of unique parts that are unable to be used on other cars.

Also highly doubt we will see the Supershot. The fact that Tamiya have made a point of changing the re-re Hotshot box art to white wheels tells me that the company have no intention of reproducing Supershot parts. Hope I'm wrong though!

They should re-release the Dark Impact, except come standard with swing shafts, slipper clutch, heatsink bars and brushless system. Make it come with radio (XB) and sell it for a competitive price and you can snag lots of the Traxxas/HPI baddies.

Original Avante, simple :D

Amen !! Though I think they should also pack in an apology letter in every one of the kits for allowing that mk2 thing to ever be produced with a guarantee that the idiot that thought it up was fired along with his home address so we can go tar and feather him properly ....

No chance of that happening. The trait seems to be one of re-releasing the '80s cars that were all plastic and sold in droves. Over engineered, expensive flops of the time are highly unlikely to see a re-release, no matter how beautifull they are/were.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, or what its called. But im just curious about the Avante MK II. It would seem that not many here likes it. Was it very bad or ugly, if anyone could fill me in...

There's nothing wrong with the Avante MkII at all, personally I think it's the best looking DF03 shell. The problem some have is that when it was announced they expected a rerelease of the original Avante r/c buggy rather than a very faithful reproduction based on the Avante MkII Mini 4wd car. The Avante MkII is fast, handles well off road and is durable, all the things the original Avante wasn't. Some consider it blasphemy that it uses the Avante name, yet seem to ignore the several Mini 4wd Avantes that there were and the fact the Avante 2001 was a cheap basic version designed to exploit the name.

NB, Boomerang's rear arms are slightly different to the Hot Shot.

On the Avante... I highly doubt they'd re-release it, it would be far too expensive as it's not a 'fantastic plastic' car like the Hot Shot. I'd far prefer to see the Egress or Top Force Evolution.

The Avante Mk II was a missed opportunity. It should have been a hopped up version of the DF-03 to be worthy of the name, with FRP or carbon chassis/shock towers, slipper clutch, UJs all round and alu low friction dampers.

What we ended up with was yet another DF-03 with an abomination of a body shell from the Avante Mk II mini-racer.

Exactly . Its not that we "expected" a re-release of the original ( though that would have been great , and sold a lot more worldwide ) . There is nothing at all different about the mk2 piece of poo other than that butt ugly body from any of the other , and mite I say , better looking DF03 chassis on the market . Ooops , I forgot it has orange rims . Though I don't like the rims on any of the DF03 kits so the color doesn't make a difference to me . And one thing the DF03 kits will never have over the original AND the 2001 version of the Avante is being original . Its just another cookie cutter chassis with an ugly body using a well respected name to try and sell it . Now don't get me wrong here , I think the DF03 is a great chassis . But to use the Avante name on it was a major mistake for Tamiya in my mind and if you go by any of the other RC based websites about 90% of the RCing community that likes Tamiya agrees . Though since Tamiya probably groups all of the DF03 sales together the idiot that thought it up can always say it was a good seller . And I cant speak for anyone else on this but I had never herd of the mk2 mini ( or any of the minis for that matter ) until they announced the release of that new thing they are trying to call an Avante . Ive herd of their dangun racers before but not the mini series . Oh well , sorry for being off topic everyone just trying to clear up why I ( as well as everyone I have talked too ) don't like that mk2 thing . If you like it , great , more power to you but don't try and say why everyone else doesn't .

Ok , back to the original point of this post . With what Tamiya have re-released already it more than likely will be a primarily plastic based kit . But with the odd range of what they have done so far your guess would be as good as any . Can you guess which one I would love to see ?? :(

Didn't they re release the XR-311? That had a fair bit of steel in it.

just a wild thought here......

could it be that tamiya has already planned this DF03 to be Avante mk2 but instead they called it the Dark Impact just to test out how this chassis will sell?

sounds like a silly thought but a sometimes a japanese company can do silly things too.....

Remember Tamiya is a Japanese company and the vast majority of their products are sold in Japan. Even at its biggest in the 80s r/c was still a small niche market for them compared with the mini 4wds. In the 90s 1 in 6 AA batteries sold in Japan went to powering them, they had 2 comics and a tv cartoon featuring them and the 1990 mini 4wd Japan Cup attracted 91,000 people. To the majority of young Japanese an Avante is a mini 4wd. As the kids that ran them back then are now grown up I'm surprised they don't make more r/c versions of them.

Highly unlikely to ever see an Avante rerelease though. As someone who was actually sponsored back then to run one I can confirm that the only thing going for it was its looks. Way overengineered and overpriced it was a load of rubbish on the track the suspension had too little travel and too much play, assuming you could actually keep it in one piece for a race meeting. It was so bad I gave it back and bought my own Optima Mid. Then again they have rereleased the Hotshot which suffered similar problems.
