THERES'S NO NEED TO SHOUT! :D

Have you got a manual? Do you want to know what hopups are recommended, or general building advice?

The one thing you should definitely do, if you haven't already, is get a set of bearings. Because of the design of the chassis, if you decide you want to add them later, you have to virtually completely disassemble the car. Bearings will improve the performance and runtime of the car.

ITS JUST GENERAL BUILD INFO AND THINGS I WILL NEED TO PUT THE CAR ON THE ROAD I KEEP READING ABOUT ESC,S AND 2 WAY THIS THAT AND THE OTHER I KNOW I SOUND BLONDE BUT ITS ALL CHANGED FROM WHEN I WAS INTO IT 20YR AGO AS A CHILD, I ONLY HAVE THE CAR BOXED UP, WHAT ELSE DO I NEED IE CONTROLLER TYPE BATTERY TYPE AND ANYTHING ELSE, ALSO IM FROM LEEDS, ARE THERE ANY CLUBS OR MEETS THAT YOU KNOW OF. PAIN ARNT I HEH HEH

It sounds like you're going to need:

  • A servo for the steering
  • An ESC - an Mtroniks is a good starting point - they are waterproof and simple to set up
  • A receiver
  • A transmitter - Most people use wheel transmitters these days, but if you started 20 years ago, you'll probably be more comfortable with a stick transmitter
  • A set of crystals
  • A battery pack - nimh packs generally last longer and are easier to look after.
  • A battery charger - you want a 'peak detection' charger to make the most of the batteries

J4cko1977,

The first thing I can recommend is to buy ballraces and fit them instead of the plastic bushings. Its easier to fit these when you first build the car, otherwise you will have to pull it all apart again to fit them later.

To get it running, and as Gruntfuggly suggested, you will need a radio system, ESC (Electronic Speed Controll), and a stick pack battery and a suitable charger.

The radio systems are sold as a complete kit, ie, the hand controller, 2 servos, a receiver, and a pair of crystals. Wheel or stick hand controller, is a matter of personal preference, although there are often more adjustments available on the Wheel controller.

There are many different types of ESC's available. The main thing to know about ESC is they have a motor rating on them, the lower the turns ratio it has the faster the motor it will run.. The only advice is to buy one with as low of a turn limit as you can afford, as you will most definately want to fit a hotter modified motor some time down the track. You may also want to consider a waterproof ESC if it rains (or snows) a lot where you live. LOL.

Battery Packs. There are 2 different types of batteries commonly used, Nickel Cadnium (NiCd) and Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMh). NiCd batteries are more robust and easier to look after, but only go upto 2400mAh (Milli Amp Hours). NiMh batteries are a little more fradgile, require a charger that is designed to charge NiMh batteries, but come in capacities upto 4300mAhr. You may want to avoid buying really cheap battery packs, they just dont last, and you will be replacing them in no time.

Charger. Minimum, you want a Peak Detection type, and I also recommend getting one that will charge NiMh batteries.

Goodluck.

Just an advice : when you reach step 18, be sure to use the uprights you will find in the motor bag. Do not use those on the grape, they don't fit :)

It's in French, but you'll find pictures of my Baja King assembly (same chassis as Baja Champ) on my site : http://bhs.online.free.fr/RC3.html

As it's already been adviced, ball race your kit right at assembly or you may not dare unmounting it completly to put them afterwards ;)

Have fun !

I say NiMh are easier to look after. They lose their charge slower, you dont need to completely discharge them before you recharge them and they survive more re-charges.
