Does anyone else here collect hot wheels? I just picked up 3 mystery cars in the all black plastic and I'm so tempted to open them up.

I had a few rare ones. American classic muscle cars with 'Snapon' logo on them. Worth quite a bit. Ended up giving them to my 6 year old son to play with! He has loads of them. Some really nice ones

I don't collect them, I drag race them on a track across my living room floor, and organize them from fastest to slowest! I once had 300-some-odd cars organized, but setting them up took up too much space; now I only have 100 organized from fastest to slowest. If anyone's interested, the fastest right now is this #17 NASCAR, followed by Phantom Racer. My favorite, however, is Greased Lightening.

What's the slowest?

I have 3 mystery cars in the black packages and I so want to open them up but can't bring myself to doing so.

I am not really a collector, but I have quite a few here at my home. I currently have 4 of the 48 car suitcases full, as well as quite a few still in their packets. I also have some of the race track, and a "made in China" Police station and Fire station.

When my nephew was born, I decided to start buying them, 1 or 2 every week when I went shopping, and then give them to him for his birthday or Christmas. He is 2 in November, so I will give him his first lot then.

I dont know if is just me, or are the cars a lot better now then they were when we were kids??. I got all excited the other day when I found that the original batmobile from the TV series had been reproduced. I remembered having one of those when I was a kid, and I couldnt help myself, I bought 2 of them (it was all they had)

I have also not seen the "Mystery" cars wrapped in black plastic. If its not a stupid question, What are they?? Are they something special??

Cheers

I think the detailing of die cast has transfrom to Hot Wheels once they start making them in China. Mind you Hot Wheels are for play and crashes while die casts are for show so the detailing is at another level, depending on brand. Die Cast brand like Ebbro, IXO, MiniChamps, Sparks, AutoArt...has warning labels on the box saying something like "this is not a toy and should be for 13 or 14 years and older."

When I was a kid, many many many years ago, Hot Wheels never did much for me, even back than I always thought they don't look too real. I guess some models were designed not to look to real but cool looking and they move went you slide them down the plastic track and the loops and all.

The mystery cars are cars that are sought after but you don't know what you get until you open the package. I got 3 different cars in mine, I had to open them up. I also picked up a batmobile yesterday. Kind of cool looking.
