Supposed to be UPGRADE not Uprade.... Sorry

Hello guys

I know Im not the first one to ask this but Im asking anyway... Thinking about getting a TXT-1 and I would like to get all needed hop-ups at the same time.

A few qs: Do the Tamiya alu cantilevers come in pack of 2? so I would need 2 packs.....? And the longer shocks, do I need them? Are they also in 2 packs so I need 2 of them also? Any idea of getting the alu battery-holder? The alu axel guard I guess I need also....

What about the body mount plates? and has anybody experience from the lightweight chassis? (its expensive....) Body post mounts..?

Read also something about the sloppy original servosavers...? Diff. shafts?

Motor, ESC and servos I think I know what I want and a full bearing set ofcourse.

Anything else? hope you got patience whit my qs.....

You've made a great choice, the TXT-1 is SUPERB fun. And will give you hours of fun both driving it and tinkering around with its performance. Motor, ESC and servos are the most important upgrades I presume you know what you want there. I've no idea whether the Tamiya Alu cantilevers come in packs of two or four. Unless you're going for the extra bling factor from the start I wouldn't bother with them. I'm still running the stock ones on mine and I've given my TXT a lot of punishment. You're better spending the money elsewhere. Again the stock shocks are fine if you maintain them. The alu battery holder is again for the extra bling factor only. The alu axle guards I would say are the next most essential thing after your ESC setup. The stock ones break very easily and its game over when they do. New Era do nice ones that look way better when fitted too. All the other bits you mention are bling factor stuff only. For the price of a light weight chassis you could buy any number of bits and pieces. A dual battery set up works best, perhaps buy more batteries and another charger if you don't have more than one already. Gets your truck back on the road faster after all.

The only other mod I would recommend as a longer term project after you've driven your truck and got used to it is extending the wheelbase out and widening the axles. It makes a huge difference to the TXT stability (its got a habit of spending a lot of time on its roof) and also changes it from a monster truck into a MONSTER truck lol

Hey there, they txt-1 is a great choice :(

The tamiya aluminium canter levers only come in a pack of 2, so yes, you'll need 2 sets.

What are you planning to do with the truck?

For general backyard use all you'll need are quicker, more powerful motors, an esc to match, ball bearings and high torque servos with better servo savers (or no servo savers!)

I'd also get some aluminium axle guard mounts. Tamiya made blue ones, but New Era also make them, in blue or bare aluminium:

The standard plastic ones are a weak point on the truck, aluminium ones will not break B)

The stock shocks are perfect for bashing, and i've never broken a plastic canter lever. The stock ones are good, but dont offer adjustments like some after market canter levers do.

The blue battery holder is good, as it works as a heat sink. But its useless if you wish to upgrade to twin battery packs in the future.

Aluminium body post mounts are nice for looks, but the plastic ones are pretty tough.

I've not seen tamiyas light weight chassis up close. They do look nice, especially if you like blue!

Xtreme racing make a carbon fibre chassis, which is very light but also very strong. I've got some installed on my shelf queen :

Tamiyas servo saver isn't the best for the job. I had problems with the splines stripping on my hitec servos. They are not sloppy, in fact they are probably too hard, and have little springing action.

The drive shafts are very strong, but do wear out eventually. Keep them clean and they will last longer. I've recently swapped parts of my trucks front drive shaft around with the rear to keep the wear even.

The diffs are all metal, and are near enough unbreakable. They'll last ages!

Have fun!

Ok, thanks for fast response. So the alu battery holder is useless if I want to use 2 * 7,2v packs?

Who makes those wheelbase wideners?

I will probably most of the time use the truck for just backyard bashing......

Thanks Mag

Extending the wheelbase out is pretty easy. Firstly you'll need axle wideners which you can get from loads of different people, check the link to New Era above. Try and get three quarter inch or one inch wideners. You can go even wider but I think the TXT starts to look a bit silly with ridiculously wide axles. Next you'll need to extend the chassis links which you can either do yourself with bits bought from B+Q or you can buy them pre-made from people like RC4WD.com. Making them yourself is great its quite easy and rewarding. Twinset has an excellent method which I followed to the letter and they came out great and are really strong. Here's his guide http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?...l=links+twinset

Next you will need longer front and rear universal drive shafts. I used RC4WD.com ones http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.php?products_id=640 They had some problems with an earlier design that I bought but they replaced them free of charge with these new ones and I haven't had any problems since, they're very heavy duty compared to the stock ones. Because you've pulled the axles further forward the truck will now sit lower down so to compensate you can put in longer cantilever links which pushes the axles back to the desired position. You can either make them yourself or buy in. Rc4wd make them http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.php?cPa...products_id=211

Its a great conversion to do and like I said does make a big difference to the trucks handling (and size!)

Here's mine with all the above mods plus InetRC.com alloy body mounts

Welcome to txt-1 ownership. One of the best Tamiya have done. Backyard bashing, start with these hop-ups:

  • Full Ball Bearing Kit
  • High Torque Steering Servo
  • Electronic Speed Controller (but use the stock one for a while)
  • Heavy Duty Servo Saver
  • Aluminum Bumper Brackets
  • Aluminum Servo Mounts (Check Ebay)
  • Carbon fiber radio tray to replace the plastic one (Only if using an esc)

Here's my recommendations: (click & it'll take you to link)

Bearing Kit

Servo

ESC (Can be used with single or dual battery packs)

Servo saver

Aluminum Bumper Mounts

Radio Tray

** I would use a single high capacity battery pack with a decent brushless system ** (Just me though)

Whatever you choose though - the TXT-1 is a sweet, fun, great all around truck :(.

Great to get so much advice, thanks guys....

Any idea to just make the truck wider but not extending it, or...? Have any of you had experince with Li-pos ?

To make the truck wider just by axle wideners.

No experience with Li-Po's. I did look into it for my TXT but its an expensive set up and for the investment you could buy a lot of 3600mah batteries plus another charger. I suppose there's a weight saving with Li-Po's though.
