there are plenty of good deals out there to fix the lack of kits - just be quick before the postal services slow!

this weekend I did a little bit of work on a project for Mr. @barneys66 started a job for @acprc did a little bit on the ever-on-going Scorcher Rover and finished off the chassis for my CR-01 project. :)

Unfortunately I'm now working from home, which tends to mean I work longer than if i was in the office and I don't have covid19, so I'm not "off work" either, so progress will continue to be slow to glacial ;)

btw - i have no idea why the ghost of Pikachu is appearing in that cushion.....

Really good job on that truck and figure!

Thank you.

Had a little drive yesterday in the evening, lights do really add to the scale appearance of a model......

Ordered a Hornet kit.

I didn't plan to order a Hornet kit. I saw a post on FB advertising one for £95, with the ESC, and thought it was a good price.

I did intend to get a Hornet at some point, my first Tamiya was a Hornet, so I can tick that box now.

that sounds perfect! You're good at throwing black paint around ;)

into the garden to try out the Cayenne and the MFX-01 mini truck. The Cayenne performed well, very prdictable. Need to look at steering rod lengths. Had to use a fair bit of trim to run straight. Also have to grind away some of the underbody as the wheels make contact on mid to full lock. Fairly easy to fix. Then it was the MFX's turn. The wheels and tyres on this are crawler tyres so very soft. This makes it quite bouncy even with CVA's rather than the stock pogo sticks. Having said that its fun to drive, real tight turning circle, grip rolls easily on grass, and to me just looks right. The fact that the battery is only held in by a rubber band so that might add to the bouncyness. Something else happened. This morning my wife and I decided to make the best of the weather and get the garden Summer ready. Probably going to spent a lot of time in it as just cancelled two trips away. Whilst digging through one of the beds my wife held something up and said "have you lost something" Low and behold the steering wheel and column from my Wild One!!! Result :)

That I am.

And I discovered a new tin of ps-5 in the cupboard!

In anticipation of the Hornets arrival and the possible suspension of delivery services I thought I'd get in quick.

So I've ordered up a set of bearings, a servo, a set of star dish wheels, some frog hex adapters and some schumacher tyres (hornet kit tyres won't last 2 minutes running in the street.

While I was at it I also added a set of bearings and a servo for the Terra Scorcher that will also hopefully arrive in the coming weeks.

Being locked-in does have its' advantages. I've been tidying, cleaned all the windows in the house (apart from those I can't reach from inside, I'm not climbing any ladders and ending up in A&E in the current circumstances!!)

I've also tidied up my 'lair'. It's really just a glorified shed, with a (leaky) asbestos roof. I painted the walls white last year and added carpet tiles, which I think the spiders really appreciated as they had invited all their mates

Not a big fan of spiders. Luckily my mate, Numatic Henry, took swift care of them (sorry, spider lovers).

There is definitely room for more models, right? (this is probably about 1/3 of my collection )

Whats a SCB BE?

(Also you shouldnt have to buy extra, but muppets are buying everything and i bet they don't know what to do with it!

Yes, it seems like only last week I was laughing at Australia and American with the toilet paper, now people from the city are driving north to our little town to buy up all our stock, it's just mental.

Is a hobby shop and essential business? To me it is...

Took it to the track. This TA04 (& me) last raced here 15 years ago in ‘05 😀 I want to start touring car racing again.

always take some tools! Something happened to the spur gear (I think gravel) and it went slightly out of round. Luckily I could increase the gap between it and the pinion and could continue, as I didn’t actually have spares with me. Spent a good hour & half at the track. It was a beautiful morning, and I didn’t interact with another soul so no rules broken.

Ouch!!

In the same boat here with no kits to build.
Just a bit of Soldering to do. And the  grass in the garden is getting to long now to run anything other than the BF or MB. Trouble is the pull start cord snapped on the mower so I’ll have to do a Ghetto mod or something there first.

There certainly are some deals around. Sadly other priorities for now.

Metro Hobbies in Oz are 20% off at the mo on eBay. 😬

WOW! That's quite the compliment! Thank you very much. I am pretty chuffed with it.

(Currently working from home so I get to stare at it in between jobs ;)

3D printed a 70s style rim a friend modelled.

2020_03_25_made-1.jpg

started re-printing an Escort Mk 2. I'd done one earlier, but left it in the car on a hot day and it sagged quite badly.

2020_03_25_made-3.jpg

I've also started working on a trailer. The frame is made out of acrylic as its easy to laser cut, but I'll probably redo it in aluminium or wood at some stage.

A local hobby shop (really small, one man band, run from home) is still trading during the lockdown and promoted free shipping in my city.  Thought I should support him (as in honestly want to support him, a really good guy, always helpful, given me parts at the track from his own stash, gave me fibreglass when he moved shop etc) so just searched through his shop and found he had hi caps in stock, and at a better price than I've seen before anywhere.  Now ordered along with PS1 paint for the Super Astute.  Was aiming for a $100 order and got to $98, pretty happy with that.  Even my wife agreed that was a good thing to do.

Of course that means I either need to buy the shorter hi cap bodies or the Dynastorm shock tower...this is never ending!

Its been a while since I have posted on here....possibly 10 years!!! Long time lurker....

I am in Christchurch and would be keen to know what hobby shop you are using and if he is interested in shipping this way? 2 children and 4 weeks of lockdown....might need an 'educational' project!

I bought them from Speedi Models, speedimodels.nz . Stephen is a great guy, he ships nationwide but just did the free shipping for Auckland. He has a decent collection of Tamiya kits too and his prices are always good, cheapest Top Force that I can find

I ran my Lunchbox down at the local cricket oval. There were probably 5-6 very small groups of 2-3 people, some were staying well apart but every group was staying well away from the others. I was way more annoyed to see a dozen grown men playing cricket together at the local high-school. C'mon guys, that's just irresponsible.

I think I might need to pull the rear apart on the Lunchbox though, it pulls to one side and kind of "crabs" but in a straight line under full acceleration - very weird.

Are your tyres glued? If not, this behaviour could be due to one slipping on the rim.

I thought the exact same thing, but I had glued one side of each tire originally and that was holding.

I might try gluing both sides, but there's no harm in pulling apart the rear diff and checking it out :-)

Today I upgraded another of my TT-01s to brushless power with a cheap Bluebottle and TBLE-02, freeing up a 21t brushed motor and waterproof brushed ESC. The former will be going into my brushed DT-02 to replace the 27t currently fitted, the latter will go into the TA-02 rally car that I am building from bits.

With the uncertainty regarding the duration of lockdown, I am trying to ration my hobby activities, so that's it for today. Tomorrow I'll do the DT-02 motor swap.

Indeed - a bit of internal investigation wouldn't hurt. The lunchbox diff is pretty bomb-proof though, so I'm not sure what could be wrong with it to give the asymmetric power distribution likely to be the cause of this behaviour. Maybe one of the axle bearings is sticky or seized? Please let us know how you get on!
