rjg1973 159 Posted March 25, 2020 One small consolation in these crazy times - and pretty good therapy - is making progress on the long list of projects. Today I finished my F101 chassis, in Benetton B190 (in 1990 spec) to go with my B190B (early 1991 spec). ChrisRx718 4470 Posted March 25, 2020 F1 cars look fantastic @rjg1973! I've always had a hankering for an F201, BMW or Ferrari, I'm not fussy! They were really unpopular at the time (in the UK, at least) and as such they're incredibly rare now

Juggular 4964 Posted March 26, 2020 I got a driver for Dancing Rider. I want to use these girly eyes. (I guess it could also be a guy with really gorgeous lashes...) But the driver's face is a bit square. And the bigger problem is that certain anatomical features are lacking. (Concaved, even) so... where am I going with this? ... .. . I had added shoulder pads to a Tamiya driver before. Why not for other parts too? ... .. I'm not exactly happy with the chin surgery (and lower lip). I'll keep working on them. As for the... er... front bumpers... Mrs. thinks they are too big. I agree with her because I only wanted to say, "it's no boy." (in a family-friendly manner, of course) But it's very hard to take off (no pun intended). So they'll stay. With the putty color so dark, I need to paint a primer. It's going to rain all weekend long. So it may take weeks until I get this painted. I should get a primer in a bottle. That'd be convenient for a small job like this. (no pun intended again) 4
Nicadraus 6198 Posted March 26, 2020 I ran the S10 two weeks ago and it was so dirty with clay dust/mud. It was only yesterday that I had the time to clean it fully inside and out including the diffs, changed the oil and cleaned the bearings too. Washed every bit of plastic and brushed those dirt off. Disassembled the motor and cleaned it too. I'll never run on clay soil again. It just sticks to every hard-to reach corners and the dust is so fine that it can penetrate the gearbox. It also clogged the motor fan which ended up stuck.
Re-Bugged 10145 Posted March 26, 2020 Fixed the pull start on the mower so the lawn is lockdown ready for running on now. In-between giving my Wild Willy driver some finishing touch’s to his face. Using some Humbrol Metallic green that I’ve had forever applied with a bamboo kebab skewer, once tacky and the skewer point cleaned scraped the green for the iris to show the white through. Then the black for the pupil. I found the skewer much easier to use than a brush. Also used to highlight around the eyelids, tear ducts, and skin creases.

jonboy1 2943 Posted March 26, 2020 As expected, I ended up working longer than planned, so RC stuff was somewhat limited last night. It was too cold to paint, and there wasn't enough time to get involved in bodywork on the Scorcher Rover (although I did make a cover plate for the radio box as the original is too tall) so I decided to start something new! I bought an M03 a couple of years back with the intention of getting it running so I could race with my mate at the local club. Unfortunately, the building they were using was just about to be demolished and didn't have anywhere else lined up, and then my mate got more into RC planes, so it kinda sat, (yes, like all my other stuff before anyone says it!) pretty close to finished but not running, sat in crate. . Here's what it looked like when I bought it: I'd stripped it all down, bought a set of ball races for it, new tyres, an iconic RC approved motor (cant remember the name now sorry) a Manta Ray ball diff, a set of TRF dampers and rebuilt it all. The repro body I bought looked horrible around the arches, so I bought a bigger set of tyres (didn't look right) and then a set of bigger wheels and tyres which looked better, but they stuck out too much. So then I modelled up some shorter camber arms to tuck the top of the wheels under, which looked much better, but only if the car was stationary as they hit when the front wheels turned. I then bought a genuine Tamiya Mini body for which was in better condition but still needed the paint stripping and I've not got around to sorting that, and my aforementioned friend very kindly bought me one of the 1275 Mini shells, but I've just drawn a blank with what to do with it, and so it has sat since. A little while ago I was browsing some showrooms on here and something caught my eye and imagination. An idea was formed. The web was scoured. Parts were located and ordered. And yesterday a screwdriver was utilised.... So I started by removing everything from the rear half of the M03 Leaving me with this: Add a sprinkle of new parts (those M04 parts were harder to find than a triple ply cushioned toilet roll) Mix it all together and voila! So I need to model up some adaptors to fit the 2 halves together, buy another Manta Ray ball diff (I did order one but it never turned up, so will need to try again) and another motor of some description. One upside of working from home now is that it's not quite so obvious that I'm working on RC stuff when I'm measuring up car parts at my desk - that said Mrs. Jon just walked in and said "that's funny looking work!" 😏
ChrisRx718 4470 Posted March 26, 2020 Eesh those M-04 parts are hard to find. My experience of twin-motor builds is that the additional weight doesn't offset the extra power. Unless it's a monster truck, in my experience it's disappointing I'm all for a custom build but an MF-01X fulfils the M-chassis 4wd thing with less overall weight than you'll end up with. I feel bad now cos I'm poo-pooing your idea so please ignore my negativity!
Badcrumble 4203 Posted March 26, 2020 This is ringing some Minortaurish bells!. What wheelbase are you going for? 3D printing would accelerate this project. I had to hand carve and laminate ABS sheets.

Yup, it actually came with a complimentary packet of unicorn poo as they had some laying around going spare I know what you're saying about the MF-01X chassis etc, but lets face it - this isn't in meant to be in the slightest bit sensible or efficient - it's just a case of having a bit of fun! Besides, you don't know what drivetrain i'm sticking in this thing! 😜 2 hours ago, Badcrumble said: This is ringing some Minortaurish bells!. It'll be the 210mm wheelbase to suit the Mini 1275 (or Cooper) shells I've got, but may see if I can make it adjustable. Oh, 3D printing makes things so much easier, and a lot less messy and involve a lot less plasters in my case
Futura 199 Posted March 26, 2020 Finished building my DN01 Zahhak, all working well (back garden shakedown). Managed to paint the body & wing, got this far with stickers then gave up before I had dragons stuck all over myself. I tried to take a photo outside, for once in the UK it's too sunny!
dannymulder 766 Posted March 26, 2020 took my konghead to the beach, broke the cvd axle for the second time, the last time I run the car I broke one to, only the front seem to brake, on the rear of the car I have the tamiya cvd's to and they are fine, I am going back to dogbones on the front of the car. I bought a tamiya TA-03RS porsche 911gt1 and some hopups, and a wr-02 chassis and a suzuki jimny body and some parts to build the car, most of the parts I have here In a box collecting dust, so now I have something to do. TurnipJF 9192 Posted March 26, 2020 Today I carried on swapping motors, taking a generic 27t out of my brushed DT-02 and putting in a "Kenjo" 22t for a bit of a performance boost. This was made possible by the ESC swap I performed yesterday on the DT-02 along with the motor swap I performed on my drift TT-01 the day before which freed up the Kenjo. The generic 27t was then fitted in my FF-01 which already has a suitable ESC, freeing up this: This is a virtually unused Reedy MVP 27t stock class motor, considered quite the performer back in the day. I think it was wasted in the FF-01, which has no racing aspirations, hides most of the motor in its gearbox housing and is stock apart from bearings, a steel pinion and a ballraced steering rack. It is far better suited to my TL-01LA, which displays it nicely and already has a few other blue bits to tie in with it visually. This is where it will end up in the next motor swap. That will have to wait until another day though, as I have already had more than my daily ration of Tamiya, and I don't want to run out of things to do during lockdown. 😳

Superluminal 3750 Posted March 26, 2020 Made a short drive shaft for my Porsche 934 with the custom carbon chassis plates. Its the standard kit hard shaft with the ends cut off and a dab of araldite into a 3mm ID brass tube (then a bit of autosol) I did buy some 5mm carbon tubes with a 3mm ID but the hole through the tube didnt look very central which would cause it to run out of balance. And theres already enough carbon on the chassis the brass is a nice contrast
