Made some carbon lightweight gear shafts for my Top Force as its to windy to paint today. The 5mm carbon tubes i had left from the porsche drive shaft experiment cut to length with a pipe cutter.

No idea if they are any better than the kit ones but they used to be a hop up part many years ago

Can it take a whole day to paint a bodyshell? Well yes, yes it can. I’m knackered. Tomorrow I remove window masks & will cut it.

Some blitzer work. Finally rewired the beetle to get the cheapy ESC out and some Novak quality in.

Very happy with how it's come together. Sports tuned motor, Novak Explorer lots of shims mean it's pretty tight to drive.

This was my first RC, still getting love!

Yesterday and today I have been working on this, and I think it is done now:

My M-03 usually wears a really nice Tamiya classic Mini shell, finished to a high standard in box-art Monte Carlo livery. Given how rare these are nowadays following the falling-out between Tamiya and BMW, I dare not run it as I am unlikely to find a replacement in my price range. This has resulted in my M-03 chassis being little more than a display stand for far too long, even though it is a good performer. The above shell is a relatively cheap and easily available Matrixline bodyset, nice enough from a few feet away but not nice enough to cause any feelings of guilt if it gets damaged while running. With this fitted, I can once again let my M-03 run free!

Took a car out for a drive in the cul-de-sac tonight.  It looks like it's spring here in the south!

Walked the dogs with my wife.

Did some gardening.

Went for a bike ride with my daughter.

Fell in the pool, killed my phone.

Oops.

Yellow everywhere.   My black truck was almost yellow until I drove it yesterday.  I have left the house 3 times in the last 3 weeks, allergic and this covid crap at the same time.

That looks fantastic! And here's me thinking a stripe and maybe a union jack on a Mini is complex!

Fnished the chassis of the M07. It's a work of art; it's rock solid with amazingly tight tolerances. A whole new world comparing it to a TT02B. Mini body is designed for 225mm wheelbase, so from a scale point of view it's a bit wide. Rally tires since the body is a rally-ish body with flared arches. My first time drilling body holes; not a complete sucess but at least I'm learning to stop being a perfectionist about things. It works; I won't worry too much if it bashes into things. Now I just have to find a decent place to run it. I'll need to paint it first - union jack of roof and something sparkly and 60's on the rest. It'd a practice body before I try something really complex on my Mito; I'm planning on the Moto-GP Pace Car livery.

First time running a car since lockdown for us started on Tuesday. Top Force and Monster Beetle. My son loves the Top Force but its just too fast for him with the Super Stock TZ on 2S lipo. Even down at 70% EPA he clipped a garden, flipped and ripped off the right side steering tie rod and upper arm. He got the other side early at 100% when he clipped the feijoa tree. He stopped using it after the second incident. I'm wondering whether I should build the Super Astute with the Super Stock motor or switch them both to silvercans.

My wife is watching the bachelor so off to the garage for me to continue on racing sparrow no. 2

Finished cutting & fitting my newly painted bodyshell & wing. I think next time I will cut first before painting, will probably be a bit easier.

Today I made a start on my Coronapocalypse TA-02 build. Initially it was going to be an Apollo 13 style bitsa, but going through my stash of spares acquired for my DF-01 and FF-01, I came across enough to form the basis of a TA-02 - a car that I have been considering for my fleet for a while now. So with a few more parts having arrived (mostly from Tony, none from model_build) I am building it pretty much as the designers intended.

My initial ponderings were leaning towards a touring or GT-style build, but in the run-up to full lockdown I was considering different race formats that would be compatible with the social distancing recommendations in place at the time. With its lack of a driver's stand, self-marshalling, physically large course permitting people to remain physically separated, etc, RC rallying seemed the natural choice. Watching videos of RC rally events showed the venerable TA-02 to be surprisingly capable against modern rally-oriented chassis, and since I already have several TC- and GT-bodied cars in my fleet, I reckoned it was time that my lone rally car had a companion.

First order of business was to go through my box of miscellaneous fasteners and find the screws and connectors needed for the build. The screws were easy enough to find, being mostly 3X10mm self-tappers, and I found plenty of brass ball connectors too, but these were in varying shades of tarnish, so I spun them up in my Dremel and gave them all a polishing to impart a uniform appearance.

Now to start screwing together bits of plastic. Build thread to follow when approved!

Loving the work with the flat black on the Amarok @Busdriver

The kids have only been on lockdown for a week (since school shut) and we had an objective to teach the youngest to ride her bike without stabilisers. Well, she had done that by Day 2 and has since moved up to a bigger bike already (now what are we gonna do!?)

We've been practising at the local secondary school drop-off point, which is kind of like a big Nascar oval

Unfortunately there's too much dirt and stones for me to risk taking an on-road (especially belt-driven) car up there yet, but today I ventured out with my trusty DT02:

49712413836_62c26cc889_b.jpg

Love this car - easily one of my most used. I've deliberately left the driver figure out since this way I can un-plug LiPo batteries in a hurry without removing the body!

Was great chasing the kids whilst on 2S LiPo, then chucked a 3S in there and gave the rear tyres a really hard time! It's so much fun cornering at part-throttle whilst this thing is cocking a front inside wheel - Stabilisers, who needs them! Neither me nor the kids

I built this today. Mainly so I can say - In your face @jonboy1 :P:D

I1oMiiHx3Feb30yaZf6ttkylYB-MySrRqQEl0A2X

ElErRpL4aGQOfCNGc3JxVla-Tl81jWq-10-N6Lxd

4 hours work to get to this stage. Would have been quicker but I was being "helped" by one of my 6 year olds.

Body will have to wait for a less windy day.

As well as the kit tyres and wheels I also mounted up some Schumacher rear blocks and stud fronts to a set of Tamiya star dish wheels.

Am now suffering a case of "tyre thumbs"!

Unfortunately, no!

I was hosing plastic shavings (from some dremelling) away from the pool (I didn't want that stuff going in there) and went one step too far backwards!

Phone (Pixel XL) is officially dead this morning - stuck in a boot loop. Using my old Nexus 6P until my newish (refurbished) Pixel 3 XL turns up later this week.

My RC'ing yesterday was limited to some indoor running - the mini Lunchbox, and I FINALLY replaced the servo in the Dancing Rider so it self rights both ways!
