I've had this TA03F since it was released sometime in the late 90's.  It was kit 58210, Subaru Impreza WRC.  Colin McCrae was everywhere at the time, and after getting my kicks playing his rally game on the Sony Playstation, I didn't think twice about buying Tamiya's incarnation of this amazing car.

The TA03F is an important chassis in Tamiya history.  It is their first commercially available belt driven chassis, first released as kit 58177, a race oriented 'pro' model with a twin deck FRP chassis and various option parts fitted.  A plastic tub, entry level model was released later, fitted with an Audi bodyshell, plastic bearings, gear differentials, and various other typically Tamiya components, aimed at keeping the price low with easy assembly.

The pro model managed to win several major U.S. titles in the hands of David Jun who managed to take on the likes of Team Associated and come out on top. The TA03F took on the best and won.

This pro chassis would be re-released as the David Jun limited edition, fitted with almost every option part going. Carbon fibre chassis, alloy shocks, lightweight diffrential gears and plenty of other items.

Since purchasing the Subaru I have been slowly modifying it and collecting parts for it.  I never did like the grey plastics that Tamiya used on this chassis, and when mated up to a FRP or carbon fibre chassis, they looked even more ugly, especially when compared to the David Jun edition.  So, for a long while now, I have been collecting black plastic parts, specific to this chassis, as well as various hop up items.  There's plenty more items to obtain, and it will likely be years before I'm finished with this one.

As the car is today - managed to find and install the front bumper.

Big fan of the TA03 family @Fruitfly01, very nice example you have there.

I obsessed over them years ago, only have a couple left now (at one point I had 5). I've so far avoided the carbon chassis plates because I think if I fitted them I'd never use it again for fear of scratching them!!

Finished up (mostly) of my TT-02 upgrade. First time soldering in a few years, totally messed up the bullets, they don't look very clean. A bit better with the motor though. Cut down the wires so it's not as messy. Programmed ESC and tested, all good. Steering is way off and binding so I have to check it. Maybe the next (and final) upgrade for this.

Then cut out my temporary/beater body for bashing so the box art (MB AMG GT) can stay home. $16 US from Amazon, pre-painted. Not bad.

Looking forward to seeing how cool this thing can be on 2S 90C Lipo with 13.5T brushless motor on 72/35 spur.

I've just put in a 3d printing order for:

x2 CW-01 gearbox braces

x2 CW-01 strut braces

x4 CW-01 wheelie bar wheels

x8 Lunch Box body pegs

x2 sets of Midnight Pumpkin body mounts

A couple of years ago I used 3dhubs to print some of this stuff, it was preally good because the job was farmed out to a hobbyist with a printer and they'd complete the order and post it. It was really cheap too, the gearbox / strut braces were £1-2 each.

Seems 3dhubs have changed their business model and don't use local printers any more. When I did a quote they slapped a £63 surcharge on the order! what a joke.

I've found another supplier (www.thirty6.co.uk) who is pretty cheap, but does have a minimum order charge of about £19, hence ordering what I need and then spare sets of body mounts to bulk up the order.

Hopefully it all works out, although the ordering system seems ot have a glitch just at the moment with the order status.

Recently I took delivery of a 1/35 Tamiya Sheridan. I may have mentioned at the time that what I really wanted was the 1/16th RC version. Well it may have been the Vodka but now have a confirmed order from Tamico for a full option RC Sheridan:D. Now there's another thread I can pester you on. I may have loads of questions:rolleyes:

I’ll be following with interest. Would love a tank but wow those prices!

slow and steady progress.  debating on cargo net and spare wheel in the bed, fuel cell/nitro,  roll bar color - black or white, probably black.

Nothing rc related! Took down my old shed before it fell down then sat from 9.30 to 11.30 in the queue to get into the council recycling centre (with said shed) then another 45 minute queue to actually put the rubbish in the skips (the way the local council are doing this 2m distancing is local council logic which to the local citizens is anything but logic)

Finished doing all the stickers on the Titan. I really like the look. Kept it very simple.

Painted and decorated a new wing for my Avante Lotus DF03. I like the Avante shell on the DF03, seems better proportioned than the DI shell and is a better fit for all the cabling. But didn't really like the wing

So used the DI wing instead, and very happy with the result

Lovely long (30+ mins) run with my FF03 tonight on the blissfully still deserted estate roads near my house. Back with the race shell. Loving this car.
