Ze Germans took over my dining room table this evening. Stickers added to the FF03 Scirocco and just general fiddling with the XV01 Quattro. VW is box art but not PS16 blue.

Today was body-cutting day, I got around to finishing the trim on the Dark Impact body, and I cut out/trimmed the DF03MS-style tail that I'm planning to use. The painting remains, but I'll wait for the custom MCI stickers to come before I attempt to do that, as I'll be using them as a template:

IMG-20200816-000101.jpg

I also cut the M07 body out and put the bodypost holes. Everything was going great until I discovered that the whole body is shifted about 1-2mm to one side (from left to right)! It's not that obvious; much more obvious is the fact that this body needs wheels with some more offset to make it look 'normal'. But then again, at least there's no rubbing anywhere like this:

I was dead afraid of cutting out the wheel wells and making a mess of the whole thing, but I think it turned out pretty ok. Next up is the washing/masking/painting/stickers. It will be one solid color; I was thinking dark metallic blue. Any suggestions out there?

Have you thought about widening the holes to the other side... once it can be centred (and the body painted) then use shoo-goo to secure some leftover lexan (with a correct hole size) underneath the body - voila! it should  be centred when you mount it. (I hope that's explained well enough, at least I know what I mean!)

I actually did end up widening the holes in the other direction, which is why the rear looks pretty much spot-on in the picture. The body centered itself naturally, as it was only a mil or 2 as I had mentioned. Thanks for the tip though!

This body wasn't that expensive, so I'm not too bothered. It will probably be swapped out for something a smidge narrower and a smidge more retro later on anyways.

My New to Me EBay Pumpkin needs body mounts . While I’m waiting for some to arrive ( alloy) I fashioned a combo front tower brace/ temporary mount. The beauty is it will still mount OVER the new ones when they arrive.

I also made makeshift temporary mounts out of some broken Stampede body mounts.

Really sharp looking. There is just something about the classic buggy shape that those cab forward buggies can not match.

Today my FF-03 conversion got one last upgrade:

43faa5dd-6867-4170-axvj2f.jpeg

Somehow I forgot to add these axles for a long time and just remembered it while buying parts for my FF-01.

Before I used these old remains of double joint cardans.

The aluminium axles fit very good. They only ask for 1mm of shims to remove slop:

Saved some more grams :D

Dude......

Nice car! Do you run this or is it a shelf queen?

On a related note, I did notice that double cardan shafts require a 3mm thick ball bearing on the inside instead of the typical 4mm of normal axle shafts. Perhaps that's why you found it works best when you added 1mm of shim to the inside? :)

Thanks 😊

This is a runner, well it didn’t run in this specific configuration, yet, as I used Corona to upgrade the whole car...

Thanks for the advise. I changed the bearing with the axle, but then it came out with 1mm slop. The car has the TRF420 suspension. My guess is that Tamiya changed the bearing distance.

Is that dual servo steering?

Nothing really RC related although built a new desk for working at home which is actually a nice convenient place to store a couple of cars lol.

Also went out for a mountain bike ride (which is pretty standard) but my route to the trails takes me past the Stafford RCMCC outdoor track so I stopped and had a brief nose at some racing. All looked a bit serious to me 😜

I think she looks rather nice, I could swear the red has got deeper over the last day or so.  I need to pick a colour for the wheels. They’re actually sprayed Mica Silver, but I’m not convinced enough to do the black fill yet. Almost seems a shame to run her. Almost :P.

Body post trimming, steering set in the post, glueing of tyres. I’d like some light buckets too, have to see what I can find for a reasonable price.

Nice day to run the Clods with the kids. Damage: Bullhead with original steering, bent rods.  Original Clod, one broken anti-rotation bracket. Great time though.

Worked some more on the M07 today. I think I just about exhausted all the possible hopups I could put on an M07. Funny considering I started off wanting to "try out" an m chassis to see if I like it, I ended up completely hopping up an M07 and buying an M08! Oh well...

Installed the aluminum rear suspension blocks with adjustable skid angle. I left it at 0 degrees for now:

IMG-20200817-010945.jpg

I also Installed soft stabilizer bars front and back. Talk about fiddly! I thought 3x3mm grub screws were small, until I saw 2.5x3mm grub screws :

I should really try DRIVING my cars more often. Even driving them at all would be a start. The current weather here doesn't help much; it was 42 degrees high and 31 degrees low today. That's Celsius btw.

I gave up waiting for new parts for my GF01 coming from HK - the parts I need aren't in stock, and even if they were HK won't post to Australia.

So, hot-glue gun to the rescue! (FWIW it held up.. for now)

Also, I took the idea of @Finnsllc and organised a heap of my Tamiya screws/parts... I found a plethora of spare step-screws and other bits and pieces. So that's a bonus.

Today I think I might have a good look at the TT01 I bought a month(ish) ago and see if I can fit a Ferrari hard body to it I have under the house. I'm also part-charging all my lipos that haven't had any use in a while then putting them back in storage charge, too.

just bought my self another 1060 esc and got dad one as well for his pumpkin, i like how easy they esc's are to set up, i think the wires are a tad short but meh awesome esc's for the money, now should i put it in my grasshopper that is stock apart from bearings or actually put it in my drifter this time......

a 2s grasshopper? could be a laugh on the stock 380, a wee bit more oomph, deffo don't need the run time though, it runs for over 2 hours on a 4000mah nimh :)

Finished fitting 12x 18mm step screws to the Konghead and took it out for a run.

Not massively successful, a front bumper screw broke, a drive shaft kept coming out and then a drive cup broke 😳

I changed my mind regarding the TT01, too. I combined my Volvo bodied TT01 with the new one - I now have one that has wider aluminium hexes to fill the Volvo's wheel wells, aluminium driveshaft, adjustable camber, magnetic body mounts etc... and some decent electrics, too, including the nice black sport-tuned motor. I've cleaned up the old one and listed that for sale.

I also ran my B5 after I ran the Konghead, but it is far less photogenic!
