Finally completed the motor holy grail with my boyhood clod in the background.

Took my latest Nikko project for a decent drive today.

Even got it to jump a little bit which is amazing seeing as it has friction shocks and the rear suspension is that same kind of "doesn't work any time you're on the throttle" design as the Lunchbox etc! It helped to have a nice soft ramp that appeared to be flytipped sofa filling or perhaps a corpse.

Still a lot of work to do but I was pleased with how it drove overall. The slightly wider track from using 12mm hex wheels seemed to help the cornering a little although it will still definitely bite if you push too hard lol. The usual approach with ungainly monster trucks seems to help where you keep on the throttle a little while cornering which gives some understeer and makes it less prone to tipping over. With some practice I could get quite a nice flow going although it would still schmidt the bed occasionally and perform a surprise traction roll

Plenty of torque from the newly installed 540 motors, great acceleration and climbing power and they seem to run much cooler too although it's about 10 degrees cooler too so not a scientific analysis. I dare say I could go down a few turns on the motors and be fine but on the other hand, the current performance envelope seems to suit the primitive chassis well and I don't want to over power it.

Still using the stock servo saver which is made of Haribo but at least it make it pretty hard to break anything.

This is how she looked when I first got her BTW:

Started the M08 build. I admit I'm pretty pleased with how far I got in the first sitting, which was about 5 hours give or take. I'm simply LOVING the build; everything goes together so nicely! I got to step 17 tonight; will continue tomorrow. Some pics of progress:

The rear suspension arms are total quality. ZERO slop and fall easily under their own weight.

Very nice truck. Reminds me a bit about Dan DeGrasso's BEAST from mid 80's...

Practiced drawing circles on the veranda today.

After the first run of a new car it’s either a bit of an anti climax or you end up giggling like a school kid. Pleased to say it’s the latter 👍🏻  I think me and M08 are going to be good friends.

Thanks for sharing! It's nice to know how the M08 handles fresh out of the box; it gives me ideas of what's needed to get it properly sorted.

I'm no race guru, but from the looks of how your M08 drove, I'd say slightly softer rear springs and/or a front stabilizer would help make it a little more driveable, unless you already like the way it handles of course

I’m no racer either @DeadMeat666. The exposed aggregate driveway is fairly slidy making for a fun and entertaining drive, and as @TurnipJF pointed out real men drive M08’s 😎😂

On the road with the Hornet!

Great spot for the first overnight, right on the shore

Unfortunately, the percentage of pebbles in the sand was too high to run it on that beach, hopefully better luck today!

I did find a few empty roads to go for a spin though

Continued the M08 build today. Got this far in 4 more hours, so total of 9 hrs so far...

For those wondering why there are titanium screws in the middle, it's because aluminum on aluminum tends to bind up.

I guess trying to finish this chassis in 2 days (while not cutting corners) was a little overambitious :D

I sold and posted my original Konghead yesterday - but after it rained solidly all weekend I don't have many Tamiya tales to tell.

I did get this far with my MG Gundam build though...

Haven't been able to work the cars the last couple of months, but I still got to make a nice trade here with another local RC enthusiast.

Here's what I just got in exchange for... a NIP set of Tamiya TLT-1 wheels and a partial sheet of LRP decals.

Tamiya Willy on a Suzuki. Not only that but holding the wheel on the British-side. Didn't know these exist. It is battery operated, just like the Academy boat.

I'm liking the motor storage. It's my very first one :)

I decided it's dry enough outside, and so I got the revived and updated TT01 Volvo 242GT out for a drift. I hadn't checked how tight the drift wheels were secured though...

First waterfront run with the old Hornet!

It was good, and hopefully I'll find even better playgrounds further down the road

Where did this shell come from!!!!!!!! I love it.

That looks like a shell from Aplastics, I've seen that one, have a Subaru Forester shell and just ordered a Delorean shell. The shells all seem to come with vac formed light buckets and they have an interesting mix of cars.
