Typed-up a build thread for my Kyosho Outlaw Rampage Pro kit, hopefully it gets approved as I did at least use Tamiya paint...

Here's a sneak preview of my latest progress. I can't decide whether to go full-on sponsorship decals or leave it as it is, what do you think?

Pass. It`s something that always has me in two minds. You`ve spent all that time doing a decent job on the paint do you really want to hide, but then again does it look realistic without a few well chosen decals

I love stickers.  Load that thing up with decals.

It looks like a SEMA truck (independent custom shop) as opposed to a full sponsor SCORE truck.  Sponsor decals to that affect would look appropriate.

I watched your video on this recently as a random push in YouTube  and got some good tips from the painting. I have some spare avante drivers (from accidentally melting a few heads... ) so don’t be surprised if you see posted some poor imitations of your work in the future! Thanks for posting. Great job. I might have to amend my Avante driver with the zip too..

Thanks! Cool and I don't mind at all :) and I hope it was helpful (but I'm sure I missed some proper paint/prep technique). I learned a lot from forums, videos, and people like here at Tamiya Club and it's nice to be able to share ideas and get inspiration from--nothing is original anyway. Hope to see your take on it one day :). Oh, and how did you melt the heads!?

Spent 3 whole hours installing the stabilizer bars on the XV01LDS... I think I just found a part of the build that I hate more than cutting bodies

Here are the culprits. The front bar in particular was a right pain, being buried deep inside the chassis:

IMG-20201022-010224.jpg

IMG-20201022-010245.jpg

Also, even though there are THREE recent XV01 builds on TC, I somehow missed out on the fact that standard sized servos plain don't fit. The PowerHD waterproof 23kg servo I bought for this particular chassis has less than 1mm clearance at the bottom and ZERO clearance at the servo saver. I'll have to find a different servo...

Been doing a few more Bruiser Suspension mods.

Started on my Mk1 85 Hotshot rebuild. Needs it after being ragged around on 2s with a 4950Kv Etronix brushless for a while.

Broke the gearbox i have just fitted on my real life car (one of them.) MAJORLY annoyed!!!

Pulled the hotshot away from the for sale section I put it on yesterday but I really like the car and I know I am going to regret it if I sell it, I wanted to sell it because I spend to  much on a new project, so now I have to install the esc motor and servo in to it.

I rebuild the shocks from my traxxas rustler 4x4 vxl.

This is PS38 Clear Blue with PS48 Anodised Aluminium backed in PS5 Black B)

That looks great, very close to 'Ford' blue. I can see this working for my GT40 body shell B)

Get a couple of these for 25 quid (£12.50 each) and keep on hand for future talks so you don’t get stuck. Arrive in about 12-14 days. Quite decent, fast and cheap. Unless you want to spend more, obviously

Ohhh. Yes.. I wanted a mirror chrome finish experimented with different paints...

Head one I started by filling the hole where the screw is with milliput, sanding and priming. The chrome paint reacted with the base coat, possibly the primer wasn’t dry enough, anyway that bubbled, i dropped it into a jar of something probably white spirit to try and remove the paint. Then something weird happened to the filler.. it must have expanded because the head cracked open in several places.. I cleaned it off, put loads of filler on but by now I’d sanded away some of the detail so I bought another..still used it to practice using the airbrush.

Head two I got a really good chrome finish with the AK extreme metal paint but it rubbed off really easily, so i gave it a lacquer coat.. that dissolved the chrome paint and it began to run.. (I’m still not sure if or how you can clear coat this) I dropped head two into something different.. probably meths this time.. when the paint looked like it was shifting, I took the head out, gave it a wipe and the plastic smeared.. it was really soft, the more i wiped the more it roughed up the surface.. would look good if I wanted to do an after crash trapped in a car fire paint scheme..

Head three, got to the perfect chrome finish.. tried Tamiya clear coat went on evenly but destroyed the mirror finish, turned it into a more speckled metallic finish this time.. This is the one i stuck with.. I’m already three drivers down.. Perhaps one day I’ll pick up a fourth and get that chrome right! It’s not awful.. but its not great either!image.thumb.jpg.787c73fb1cd2dfa3bc0bce2ac551de85.jpg

That was quite an experiment to get a chrome finish! At least I can take notes from your experience :)! So looks like AK doesn't work. I was looking at that one but it doesn't sound promising at all, besides I don't have an airbrush. I wish there was just a simple kind of service for chrome plating plastics. So this last one has the clear coat on it or no?

Sun came out for the first time this week, and probably since I finished this, so got some better pictures of the Yaris, although the sun shows up more of my shoddy work I'm still pretty happy with it!

Yes, it does. The AK works really well on a good prep surface, gloss white or black. But I’ve still not found something to protect it, If you’re not adding the stickers and it doesn’t need handling it’d probably have been fine.. but could still rub off with your fingers...

if you have an airbrush use Alclad chrome. Needs a black basecoat  and needs to be super smooth but the result is fantastic

I apologise in advance for the photo onslaught you're about to receive, but for the first time in a very long time I was allowed more than 5kms (3 miles) from my house to "exercise," due to a change in the Covid restrictions from 5km to 25km. Luckily there are beaches 24kms away, so I was finally able to run the Trail King and the DT02!

The usual post-beach clean up was tiresome (and involved an air compressor)  but totally worth it.

Personally, one of my favorite things on the forum are the users' driving reports (I guess that's why I give so many myself)

Great photos and location 👍

I've been in need to perform High point setup on my Manta's TBLE-02s for a while now, couldn't be bothered desoldering the cables from the motor so kept procrastinating, but today I decided to give it a go anyway with the cables on.

Surprisingly all went well and with no casualties. At first I thought I'd celebrate by giving the car some more TLC (like cleaning, checking everything, fixing the wing where some paint chipped and on...) but then I thought again and just sat on my successful setup with a pint of beer. Two, actually.

The wiring on this beast isn't going to be easy... waiting on the bullet connectors to wire everything up and test it before I start attaching electronics and shortening wires:

IMG-20201023-025757.jpg

Here she is all done. Every screw, every part, with the exception of the body posts (so it can still fit neatly in its box when I put it away). I solved the rubbing servo issue by putting in a solid aluminum horn for now. The turnbuckles are all steel, so it should be fine:

IMG-20201023-034811.jpg

I'm thinking this body, painted white, with Warsteiner livery, to differentiate this XV01 from the hordes of Subaru/Audi/Mistubishi/Lancia kits. What do you say?

White with BMW Aplina stripes would be nice as wheels are similar to the style used by that aftermarket company.
