Kicked off the build of my SCX10 III

Nice build so far, instructions could be better, but still decent enough.

Took one of my Javelins out, along with my little man.

After much wrestling with running harnesses, we were ready to go. Little man promptly again managed to break another front hub by bouncing it off of my boot. Managed to hit the toe of the boot just right.

After a teachable moment (no, it's not my fault for not moving out of the way in time and it's not the buggy's fault, either) I made a new harness so that this battery could be used in one of my other Javelins.

Then we transferred the mostly fresh battery to the other Javelin and the little guy and I ran that battery down.

Then I replaced all the dogbones in the "good" Javelin with Kyosho universal joints while kids were out. And decided to change gear ratios a bit. And re-glued a tire.

Decided that I am tired of the little person breaking plastic hubs and that I will plump for metal ones this time.

I took my Hornet out around the yard despite being in single digits C with 42knot winds. Eventually I drove it through my front window .

Hard to say without seeing the whole car but Option 1 would be my pick of the bunch.

That's an option I have considered, but I already have two Minis which I am still unsure about, and I dunno about 2 MX5s as well, especially considering the other fantastic bodies Tamiya makes for the M-chassis range... I also want the gen1 (s3) RX-7, and the VW beetle also... 😄 decisions, decisions...

So you'll need another M08 for an Alpine body then when they come round again??

A quick bit of reinforcing and repair on the Porsche body from its little incident Postal Racing. Hopefully get Round 4 in next week.

It probably would have faired a lot better if it had a foam inner bumper instead of the plastic supplied TA02 offering 🤔

Replaced a roof / cockpit bar that I snapped in a rollover incident on my Kyosho Scorpion.  Had been waiting quite some time to receive the parts from rcmart

Finshed up my re-re Ultima runner build finally today. My interest in RC went off a cliff awhile back with all that's going on. In between waiting for guitar parts and parts for my newly acquired GMC Sonoma Highrider ZR2 to arrive, I felt the need to button up the Ultima. I'm cautiously awaiting the results of the election here in the US (not who wins, but rather what the fallout will be whatever the outcome) before starting to sell off some RC items.

Got to the end of my VW Beetle Rally with the MF-01X Chassis. Changed the wheels and put on the ones from the Lancia Delta integrale as they are slightly bigger and look a little better on the big Chassis.

Better looking wheel and tyre for a Rally IMO.

Now to decide on the colour scheme. Box art (Orange Rally) or my personal favourite (No 53  Herbie)

Had a short stint after a couple of weeks of inactivity due to absolutely ridiculous amounts of work lately. I only managed 20 minutes or so, but they were quite enlightening...

I tried installing a helicoil into an m3 screw hole I'd stripped on the TT02S, using the following kit that's all over ebay:

IMG-20201101-235123.jpg

It consists of the helicoil tool, 50 m3 helicoils, a drill bit, a tap, and a metal rod thingy which I didn't need. I tapped straight into the stripped hole (the drill bit wasn't needed), and mounted a helicoil into the purple tool and drove it into the hole until it was flush, and I now had a like-new screwhole with stainless steel threads:

IMG-20201101-235109.jpg

It worked like a charm, I highly recommend. Although now that I'm thinking about it, I probably should go back and apply some threadlock now that it's a metal-on-metal fastening. I'll see how it holds up.

Edit: Yes, that's a steel pinion on a steel spur in the second pic. I really should clean them up. They're as loud as you imagine steel straight-cut gears would be at 20,000 rpm . COMPLETE overkill for a touring car btw.

Always been a Herbie fan. I’m playing through Need for Speed Payback, and it is all I can do to not put a Herbie livery on a VW bug.

So, no photos to accompany but I swapped the Gool RC 3500kv system I was trying out in my MP into my Stampede and paired the Traxxas XL5 with a standard Silver can.

I call the swap a Win Win . The GoolRC set up runs better on the higher discharge 60c full size square pack that fits in the ‘Pede.
Also I was really tired of damaging The  body on my MP with all the standing backflips the brushless system was prone to.
The only drawback is I have to take the body on and off each run because the XL5 has a power bottom ON the esc.

Very little rc related stuff this week, kids have been off and work has been busy. I have a project bodyshell to complete for a work colleague which I made a start on:

Screenshot_20201101-222115_Gallery.thumb.jpg.a1d0bbf1303d1447e693a8d33659875b.jpg

Of course, it has to be red.

Then our family car gave me some issues which I had to solve with some help of an RC battery.

Replacing the rear pads on our VW, usually requires either an OBD tool to reset the electronic handbrake or dismantling of the electric motor to manually unwind it so the new pads can go in. Well, 8 year old VW rust and horrible torx-head bolts did not want to budge, so...

Screenshot_20201101-222141_Gallery.thumb.jpg.cb75b6397f4c367ad7a2cec336177bd1.jpg

A crocodile clip on the positive and negative motor connector, 3S Lipo power and the motors unwound surprisingly quickly

Unfortunately it appears we have other problems afoot with the family bus which I'll be investigating further next weekend, these were the nearside brake pads :( :

Lovely work, the helicoil should be sub flush to the surface, I normally do 1 x pitch below the surface this allows the lead to be c’sunk to prevent the first thread creating a break here point from the knife edge, also gives the first insert thread something to load against rather than being unsupported. Looks like there’s a small up stand part,  I’d fit the helicoil below this if poss, this way the loaded threads in the plastic aren’t in the thin wall section. The metal rod might be for punching the tang off, but wouldn’t bother if you can get away with it. I might have to invest in a kit of my own now seeing this! Sorry for back seat helicoiling...

Just fitted new R31House wheels to my Konghead. The chrome tamiya ones are brittle and chip pieces off the outer edge.

R31 wheels are black, which is cool, and also seem a bit more pliable so hopefully won’t chip

Did you have to install any extended Arms or spacers? Or are they direct bolt on ?
