I was thinking the same,  I’m worried I’ll make it look like it’s been chewed by a mouse though....I’ll put it on my ‘to do’ shelf... and half finish something else.

Thats the ticket Lee!  You and i may be cut from the same cloth.  Your best bet is to buy another kit and start that, always works for me.

I'm not gonna lie, it's enabled me to walk along paths and trails I would have been too chicken to go on it the pitch black before which is handy as it starts getting dark at 4PM now lol.

Given a few other people a ****ht though lol. Oh well, what are you doing walking abound muddy paths in the pitch black with no torch etc in the first place? NO YOU'RE THE WEIRDO!!!

@nowinaminute definitely been there too quite a few times with the Big Boss. I don't mind freaking people out a little when they deserve it ahah cause yes, whoever walks a muddy path in sheer darkness with no torch is the weirdo! At least we have bouncing four wheeled torches to light our way :)

On another note, I just finished the Terra Scorcher chassis today. With all the -by now well known- issues regarding the re re version I can't really say that it was smooth sailing, but I still enjoyed the build very mucb. At least it seems that by now the car is good to go in terms of noise/mesh/gear binding, although I'll have to wait to run it to be sure, of course... but I'm positive the extra work done will pay off.

@mud4fun I've used the measurements you've endorsed a while ago for steering and servo arms ;)

The replacement tire should be in my mailbox anyday now, it would feel kinda nice to be able to mount the wheels!!

This is it so far. Not much different from stock aside for a 17.5 sensored brushless, alloy A5 part and E clips+shafts in place of screwpins for the suspension arms. It will differ a little more from box art aesthetically.

20201127-202603.jpg

Next will be body cutting/painting, driver, decals, final but essential last OCD details, and it'll be done. Part of me wants to hold back, because building a kit is so much fun and fulfilling and I don't want it to end!

One trick I use for any drive-cup like this that ages prematurely is rotate it from front right to rear left (and front left to rear right and so on), effectively reversing the cups so you get more life out of them. It just means your braking performance is slightly delayed.

That's a good idea 🙂 These ones were making the whole wheel jump every time it rotated, with the pin getting lodged in the worn recess in the cup, making it unbalanced and vibrating everywhere. I took it for a quick run after work and it is much better. These will do until I get some of the hardened versions 😁

Have gone from a pre lockdown tier 1 to a tier 2 - no idea how that can as the lockdown was supposed to ease things, so as I have no other plans this weekend - unpacked and ready to start building. Not a lot there on initial impression but I can see lots of shiny metals in the parts bags.

I'm no longer looking at this as though it is incompetent governments trying to control a virus, instead I'm starting to think this is very carefully planned and well orchestrated social engineering on a grand scale. Too many governments around the world making the exact same decisions and imposing the exact same lockdown policies for it to be anything other than orchestrated. For what purpose I have no idea, other than beginning to believe that the conspiracy theories about the World Economic Forum's 'Great Reset' is being pushed through under cover of a 'pandemic', for something that is actually no more lethal than flu. When you know the PCR test is so flawed and is not being used in the manner in which it was designed to be used and has a very high false positive rate, the more they test the more false positives they get, which just serves to justify removing even more liberties. The fact that protests against lockdowns are now illegal just supports the conspiracy theorists. It also sets a dangerous precedent for future politicians to use any old emergency to remove liberty. I suspect they got fed up of us ignoring the climate change stuff and are now going to push through major changes in legislation (such as banning petrol/diesel cars, road charging, freedom passports or whatever else they want to). I may however just be losing my mind (cabin fever?) and starting to believe some of the conspiracy theories!  :D

Anyway, enjoy the VQS build. The Vanquish is a great buggy. They drive superbly on dirt tracks. If you decide to run it regularly then I can recommend the Yeah Racing alloy hubs which are bullet proof and completely remove the risk of snapping the original plastic ones.

Spent most of today building the VQS - up to starting bag D which is the steering parts. Its got the HIcap upgrafe dampers and an unused black can sport tuned I had knocking about.

Ive enjoyed it so far. Theres more metal parts than i was expecting. Im not familiar enough with the original vanquish to say wheter the old one was like this but it has the same drive shafts, alloy clamp type wheel hexes and other alloy bits from the Avante that i was pleased to see. I was expecting plastic hexes for sure.

It had some nice touches with jig pieces for setting the turnbuckle widths and for bushing the metal balls into the rear arms.

The only bit im not sure about is the damper mounts / stays. Both front and rear are quite flexible and dont look particularly robust.

And you do actually need two wrenches for assembly.....who would have thought.

And theres a correction sheet slipped into the manual too.

I was reminded today, that I should stick to making shelf queens and not try to get them to run.....

I'd recently rebuilt and refurbed a Technigold motor, which I decided to connect up to test before putting in my UberBoomer. Some glowing red contacts and smoke later I decided it wasn't quite right.....

Undeterred, I thought I'd tweak the tracking on the CR-01 as I'd now got that to have 4WS. There it was, sat on the bench behaving itself, then I just nudged the throttle slightly, upon which it crawled back an inch, then there's a lot of ticking from the ESC, smoke, before it fires off backwards at full speed, smoke pouring from the ESC. I manage to disconnect the lipo and throw the car outside where it soon stopped smoking and calmed down. Pulled the ESC from the car and found it has melted what i guess is the potting (black sticky liquid.) Never had an issue with it before - ran a treat only a week or so ago (it's a proper Hobbywing Quicrun 1060)

I'm sticking to painting from now on - far less hazardous to my health and wallets' health.....:(

Slow going on the Beetle Body, Just managed to fit the convertible roof cover. Made from wooden toothpicks and some spare canvas repair patch.

Looks a little lose at the moment but should tension itself up when it dries.

The weather was ok today so a I squeezed a run in with the Optima. I've already touted its incredible build quality and amazing performance. I'm honestly getting great enjoyment out of it and my Big Boss.

I finally got to a point on the M-bling 06 to power it up and check that everything runs. Pleased to report that it does.

The 38-tooth oil-filled diff is very smooth, better than the 39-tooth gear unit that comes stock. I don't know what black magic was done to have it lose a tooth and still maintain good mesh.

The servo is not staying. While strong, it is not nearly fast enough to counter-steer when the inevitable stepping out of the rear occurs with over-spirited driving.

I'm planning to put in a gyro, but I'm at a loss as to where I'd place it. It might eventually have to end up on top of the carbon battery holder (not pictured).

Not sure whether to cannibalize the boxster body from my M02 and put it on here along with the 32mm wide rear wheels/ 26mm front TC wheels. Thoughts?

The front carbon reinforced lower suspension arms have unused screw hole tabs on the bottom that are pretty low to the ground; no idea how I'm going to go about grinding them off without a dremel tool of some sort.

Obligatory bling shot (forgive the messy wiring):

That is utterly glorious, well done! What’s the painting technique there? Whatever it is, you’ve nailed it, I love it 👍

Cleaned off my workbench, reorganized my shelves, and chose my winter projects:

Lunchbox - stock except for a Sport Tuned motor, 18 tooth steel pinion, and Monster Beetle wheels with old Duratrax tires. Need to choose color(s), paint and detail, and finish wiring. Might also dig through my parts stash and see if I have shocks that fit it, so I can eliminate the pogo sticks.

Hyperdrive pan car - need to rebuild all 3 shocks, choose and paint a body, and then wire it up. Haven't decided on a body for it yet. This will be a runner, so I won't go crazy with the detailing. Motor is an old Reedy DS-Spec 19 turn spec racing motor, should be very fast but not uncontrollable.

Monogram 1/24 scale '53 Corvette - somehow I ended up with two of these in my collection, so it's time to build one.

(Not pictured - Mazda MX-5 body to paint for my MF-01X. Rally Miata time!)

It may not sound like much, but between all the suspension work I need to do on my 1:1 MG, and whatever "honey-dos" come my way, I'll be lucky to get through this by springtime...

Made some progress on the Terra Scorcher. All standard save for three 1150s for thrust bearings, and a torque tuned for the silver can.

AAFD9980-76A6-4F3B-89FC-B2FB0B811416.jpg

I had a Thundershot as a boy, I thought this build would bring back memories.

Nothing, zip. I recognise it more from seeing everyone else’s photos I think! Perhaps all the memories are tied up in hand painting the body.

Still, looking forward to running it, seeing how it feels against it’s 80s and 90s brethren.

Nice, I too am building my 2020 TS these days! Now that you've closedthe gearboxes, does everything mesh OK for you? diffs and gears smooth enough? I'm curious to know, as in my case it didn't work with the 1150s. Being just a hair thicker than the washer+plastic supplied, along with the horribly moulded bevel gears it just made it all way too tight, to the point that I wasn't able to turn anything by hand. I had to take everything apart, carefully shave the lumps off the bevels and rebuild with the thrust washer. Now everything seems smooth enough, but it did take the extra work to achieve that. Been wondering if it's been like that for many others or just for some.

When carefully reading the instructions again, I eventually convinced myself that the thrust washer is alright in there, no real need for a bearing when the shaft is already supported by two 1150s. But still, Tamiya supplied almost all the bearings so I think that at that point they should have also supplied three proper thrust bearings!

Anyway, I'd like to hear how that went for you :)

I'm so glad you are running your Big Boss now 😃

The same happens here. Took the first walk of the season in the snowy woods this evening, with the loyal Big Boss lighting the way.

Knocked together the M06 chassis today.  Other than a steel pinion, hi-torque saver, dampers, and ball head damper mounts in the rear, it's stock.

Still needs electrics installed but I need to check over a couple of things as well.  There's a large amount of front negative camber and toe out.  Seems excessive for stock settings.  One side in the rear is a couple of millimeters higher than the other with less toe in.  Turnbuckles would have been smart things to order before building.  Odd inconsistencies are annoying.

1UMTPnq.jpg

I went with the Super Mini CVA dampers and guessed what settings would work rather than look it up.  I think I've got them ok for now.  2-hole pistons, large internal spacer, short damper arm in the back with stock fluid and springs.  3-hole pistons, large internal spacer, short damper arm in the front with stock fluid and the yellow (medium) short springs that came with the dampers.  I expect to use them on-road until the Escort body is released and I can make some changes for rally.

I might order some M-Grips for the front instead of the stock rear S-Grip and front radial combination.
