Finally finished my Terra Scorcher's wheels. It took some time but I'm happy with how they came out.

Now, after painting the words "Off Roader" for 16 times in a row today, I might as well go outside and get some actual off road under my car before it's pitch black!

Mounting and final "noise testing" will follow...

I like the fluorescent looking paint. If you don't mind me asking what paint us it?

Thank you. This took a while as for once I've allowed plenty of drying time between coats.

I did as follows:

-washed/rinsed/dried the wheels

-primed with white primer (I was going to do Tamiya grey primer and then white coat, but I had a white primer hanging around and knowing the brand is good I decided to go for it to save some coats and gain less thickness)

-sprayed with Tamiya fluorescent orange PS paint. I went with PS so I could use the can for both the wheels and some details on the body shell later. It it said to be aggressive on certain plastics which is absolutely true, however the risk is minimized when priming, especially on something thicker and sturdier like wheels. I've done it before and it won't be an issue if you spray gradually and sparingly on a previously primed surface

-top coated with transparent glossy sealant.

I've done two coats of each step, exept for the front part of the wheels which got an extra coat to make it just a bit darker.

I like how they came out. They will chip a little with the use of course, but I hope nothing major: I've painted the original wheels of my Manta Ray the exact same way just under two years ago, and I've used them a lot with barely any happening only from gravel. It's worth it if, like in my case you want the original wheel just in different color :)

Edit: I found a picture of the pruducts before I started

On another note, we did the Christmas three today (just for ourselves, as nobody is allowed going nowhere now that the rules went fully Orwellian for the holidays).

I HAD to put at least a tiny bit of RC related decoration

Cool! The results looks really good. I figured it could've been a lot of steps and waiting. Interesting that you used PS paint. I wish Tamiya made a durable/flexible TS, like a hybrid PS/TS for wheels and RC plastic bodies. Working on a plastic body and it made me think about such paint.

I too wish that Tamiya did that. A paint specific for wheels would be great!

My LHS is open Sundays until Xmas, Since I have been at work the last 6 days I haven't been able to call by, so made sure I did today.

Went to pick up a few parts and ended up fixing 4 customers cars. 😄

Apparently, the Tamiya Distributor has one of the Ford Escort kitsets and brought it in during the week to show the owner!

😬 @#!@%##$ I would have acci-purposely felt sick and left work if I hadve known there was an opportunity to rummage through the kitset box!!!

Oh well got my bits and pieces... plus an old radio that was going to get biffed 🙂

Finished the Brat body shell for my WT-01. It's replacing the Amarok shell that I accidentally backed in TS black instead of PS black, leading to the paint peeling off.

When I mentioned that I wanted the Rochobby 1941 Jeep, my wife asked, "where are you going to drive it?" As if to say, it's too cold already and she's concerned about my wellbeing.  I said, "just in the backyard."  That was that. I didn't think I was going to buy it then.

When there were lots of sales for Thanksgiving, she said she wants to buy a hairdryer.  I said, "ooh, if you are buying, can I buy too?"  She asks what I wanted, I said "the jeep, maybe."  She said that's fine. Really?  Not only that, she said I can have her old hair dryer as a heat-gun.  "A twofer? Well, sign me up!"

As it turned out, that was a bait that I took all too willingly.  First of all, the jeep runs well on deep leaves.  But I bought the jeep to see it negotiating the terrain. It's a semi-crawler. But these cushy things hide everything. I wanted the jeep to float on its springs, not on leaves.  So I simply had to rake it all away.  So that the uneven ground would be exposed and the jeep could articulate.  0GxprHZ.jpg

The second thing I discovered was that Suzy next door paid $350 to get her leaves removed.  That's a lot of money. Even if it's only $10, I'd do it myself and save that money.  But the backyard that's fenced in? Who cares? The leaves are not going to bother anybody. That's what I said... until I drove my jeep.  I have a vague feeling my wife has been telling me to rake the leaves. (but like all good husbands, I simply did not do it for her).  But she knew I'd do it for my jeep.

Thirdly, I did not know that Mr. Dyson made hairdryers that are more expensive than an RC car!  I thought a new hairdryer would be like $40, not $400!  Suddenly, my $240 jeep and a used hairdryer doesn't feel like such a stellar bargain.  I should've asked for more! Like extra batteries or brushless motors.

ZnzBXi8.jpg

So, the jeep was a bait. (I might have bought it anyway, why not use it to motivate me to do what she wants?)  While I'm blinded by the jeep, she gets herself an expensive hairdryer!  It was a twofer for her!  She only made me think that I got a twofer.  There is no winning against women folk! (which is why you should be on the good side of them)  The life lesson for me (again) is; to know how much stuff costs when you are bargaining.  If the bargain sounds too good to be true, it is.

I blame PayPal. I think my finger print must be etched into the screen so anything I look just gets ordered!!!

Left work on time tonight so I could sticker up the VQS - its taken about 3 hours to apply about 10 what look like simple stickers. Now I know I suck balls at putting on stickers but this would have been a lot less painful if they were masks to spray silver paint around the body rather than the stickers but no choice as its already painted black all over. After lots of soapy water, lots of wafts with a ciggy ligher and lots of lifting and resmoothing its done (as well as a couple of large Captain Morgans and some bouts of swearing, walking away and coming back 5 minutes later). I lined around the canopy with some 3mm black vinyl tape as i didnt like the way the silver just finished on the glass. Im really pleased with how its finally turned out - the pre painted body was actually a bit of bonus as it allowed me to complete it without having to wait for a warm dry day to paint it (ie next April)

Got my magnetic body mount kit with build in power connections for the lights came in, starting to assemble it. I notice the magnets discs was very strong. So I play with it few times by pulling the magnets discs apart and let it go which created a small sparks when they hit each other. Then I realized I  did something very stupid, as each time I did that the magnets keep breaking into smaller pieces. After finding instructions online and translated it in English. It clearly stated not to let the magnets hit each otherwise the impacts will fracture the iron magnets. Doh so stupid of me. Need to order a new one again. These are sold in Asia so another 2 weeks of waiting..so mad at myself that I did few times more out of frustration until the magnets is in tiny pieces.

That’s the first VQS I’ve seen in virtual reality @Superluminal. It’s a smart looking thing 👍🏻

Are you going to run it??

Finally clicked the “go” button on a new body and decals for my eBay Hornet.
I justified the purchase as “limited quantities available “ and I will save on shipping if I order at the same time as other gift items .

After receiving a few more hints as to what Father Christmas will be bringing me, I set about cleaning up a 27t rebuildable motor which I hope will suit it.

Said motor came out of my DT-01, which has been treated to a new Sport Tuned in exchange.
