Well I seriously regretted trying to do a COLAS railfreight inspired colour scheme on my Cougar.....

I am not joking when I say I started it at 10am this morning and have only just taken the final layer of masking off the wing. Yes, it has taken a whole day to do one wing! I haven't even started the shell yet.

This is the first time I've painted a shell in more than one colour and this scheme is 3 visible colours but the wing required 5 different colours, each with 2 or 3 light coats. Gunmetal backed with black part masked, then orange part masked, then yellow part masked, whole backing in white followed by whole backing in yellow. Approx 15-20 light coats..... It looks great but a whole day of my life gone...... :o

While waiting for paint to dry I managed to install the decals on middle mudlets Thundershot and paint her wing too. Her wing only took an hour as it was silver with the separate end plates in fluorescent yellow.

You cant write all this to us on Tamiya forum and not add pictures mate??

LOL, that was sort of my point, ****** all to show for a full day of painting!

Here you go....

Ignore the little bit of orange overspray in the corner of the yellow, it is on the topside and will be polished out once the paint is all dry.

wing_paint (1).jpg

Funnily enough, the orange turned out too dark for a COLAS scheme BUT it now looks more like the CAT XLS Musami colours..... I guess I could just pretend that was my original intention.....

Thank you. I am glad my pics make you want to get aHornet, you totally should!! Buying a Hornet is definitely one of the best ideas I've had in the last few years, and some of the hundred-something dollars best spent of all my life. Go ahead buddy, you'll have zero regret :D

I have to agree. My second hand Hornet was dirt cheap and has been so much fun.

Are there any tips on using a NST tire removal kit? I got aluminum rims with drift tires that I want to remove for rubber treads. I've used the same tread for plastic rims but I only had to heat up the treads before installing them. The ones on the rims are loose but a very tough job to get them off the bead. Room temp tires are too hard and I'm not sure heating them will make it easier but will try in a few. I'm just wondering if a tight fight or some rim tape/adhesive is getting in the way.

A threaded device might have been useful to remove it but it would need to be strong and good quality.

Edit heating it for a min worked wonders though removing the rim from the cap is something without damaging paint. The rim was pushed off fast enough that the aluminum rim was partially mounted to the cap... the 5 spoke design makes it hard to use the 2 pin holes on the cap to the rim down without damaging the paint or sliding off. sorry if the pic is blurry but it works to tell the tale.

im just scratching my head and trying to look for a safe way to remove the rim from the tool without too much paint damage... i just have no good ideas aside from taking a  vice grip to the back of the spokes for the time being... i just put the plastic cap in boiling water for 10 seconds and it was enough to expand it a bit to remove the im but thats a rather annoying issue to have. im gonna a head ache trying to dismount the other 3 drift tread, its hot that easy at times. i think i need to go a bit more extreme to get the thing removed, 2 small metal plates and a good large 2 clamp might do the trick...

how do you differentiate the proper way to place the yellow tool insert?

OK now @Ferruz this is just getting cruel, not only are your pictures amazing but you have snow and we don't!!!!! :D

We've been 'promised' snow by the weather forecast for the last two weeks but still haven't seen any (well other than for 5 mins and it was immediately washed away by rain).

PS. Those pictures with graphiti/wall art in them are strangely beautiful.

Please stop posting pictures of beautiful boats. I’m only just managing to resist a proboat 23 jet boat, well at least until I’ve sneaked the MK2 Escort in to the house. The boats difficult to sneak!!!!

Maybe don't watch this space... 😉

(I've made a "deal" with someone from the RC boat club I'm in, but it definitely falls in to the "I'll believe it when it actually happens" category)

I really enjoy the painting part, I find it quite relaxing. Maybe it's the fumes?

so i got around to making a tool to remove the shocks from the ball mounts. its currently only working on the TT02 as its the only one i have ATM. not sure if the hop up shocks for it will be 100% compatible with the tool but it should work. the slot is a bit under sized but it works well. i can fine tune the tips so there is proper clearance to work on the more tight areas. i decided to paint it a bit but rushed the drying time a bit 17 minutes at the shortest between medium coats of paint and one side was slightly sticky as it was 95% dry so it picked up some paper towel lint. the blister there simply was BC i didnt give the primer longer to dry. i think it turned out fairly well and the red paint will make it hard to miss if im trying to locate it to work on the shocks.

The jeep coped really well but had a battery issue and stalled in the middle of the road!! The unimog on the otherhand was awesome. The snow in the back garden is about 1.5 inches +. and it just ploughed through it. Being a Dynahead with a silvercan there are no rooster tails of snow but it looked so realistic. The ramp that it is climbing is three bricks high and it didnt even break into a sweat.

No pictures but the WT01 was almost undriveable on the road due to chronic wheelspin and or buildup of snow under the chassis. I didnt bother with the back garden. More later as batteries need a top up.

Took my Agrios into the woods today, due to the pine trees there where hardly any snow, just a fine layer snow and now and then ice so could spin around a bit. Out in the open there was 15-20 hard snow (skare) & ice, was also great condition to drive in but could not take picture as wife went in with her phone by then and i forgot my own. Either way, great fun:):

Put the decals on middle mudlets wing for her Thundershot, I only finished the wing at midnight last night. I still have to make the wing mount (so it is temporarily sat on the shell)  but she is delighted with it and her race team are finally all in her chosen colour. DT02, Thundershot and Egress.

@mud4fun Those look Smashing!. As i kid i never saw Egress/Avante and they would be far of off my price range as a kid ofc either way. Picking this hobby up again a year ago The first Buggy that did catch my eye was Avante (that i did not already see as a kid) as it looks stunning, then i found Egress and it looked more badass, as i further discussed this on the forum i found out that Egress is a far more balanced RC buggy and better to drive so i fast started to want and Egress and forget about the Avante. And now that the RE RE (maybe one more RE i dont know) Egress is on the way i Badly want one, they look amazing!.

My Daughter loves her Egress. Although strictly speaking it is an Avante2001 with carbon decks and Egress rear shocks and Egress shell. It is still running the Avante2001 geared diffs and centre ball diff as that is what we prefer on all our Avante class buggies. It is running on 2S LiPo and a 33k rpm Dyna Run Super Touring motor. The top speed is just right for her ability and she loves the fact it turns very tightly and handles so well. It is her favourite race buggy. Although the thundershot was her first love, the Egress was her second and the DT02 was a xmas present last xmas so is also special. I think it is unfair to ask her which is her favourite, each has its own special memories and associations ;) She also has a re-re Terra Scorcher but is keeping that in box art and avoids racing it as she wants to keep it in good condition, she got that as a present for doing so well in her exams)

Took the XV01s out for an afternoon in the melting snow.

They were pretty good at helping clear the snow from the driveway

The Audi especially

All that gave me the right time to put a Christmas present to use

ECB9C1F0-740E-4C88-930F-F608EE5EEB95.jpg

Did very nicely, though I wouldn’t recommend doing it anywhere you can’t easily clean! Also ‘helped’ take the loose paint of the inside of the Audi. I’ll be finding out next week how well patch painting holds.

XV01T kept on ticking. Quite impressed with my 5 year olds handing of it. Only a silver can, but I wound it up to full power once he got started. Controlled it nicely, seems to be learning that the throttle control isn’t binary :D

However XV01 was not so lucky, started to cut out on a fresh battery, so after the blow dry it’s time to see if it survived.

I took a ride with my dt-03 racing fighter black edition. Unrecognizable under the rock socket body, four truggy wheels and cheetah brushless combo by skyrc.

did a bit of work to make the MST tire removal kit a bit easier to use. 3 scrap aluminum plates later i can safely use a automotive C clamp on it. i even made/ground down an aluminum square to a disk to have a way to punch or push out stuck rims. its not a perfect fit but some rubber mat section should make for a scratch free removal.

EDIT: my new mods to this worked like a charm! i had no permanent mods done to the tool itself. just a round aluminum disk with a rubber piece for paint protection and 2 aluminum plates below and above the the tool for a nice solid point to use the C clamp on. :) with the extra spacers in the cap the round plate didnt need to be tested to functionality, the drift tire was already +80% removed from the rim. i dont know if a plastic drift tire would survive the gentle prying by hand  to finally remove it but it was not an issue with aluminum rims.
