I fancy shortening all my servo leads at build time. Would you mind sharing what you eventually go for in terms of plugs/crimper? oh and to make you feel better my vernier was £8!!😂

Willy iine 18806 Posted March 25, 2021 I bought a short wheel base M38 Wild Willy today. Hope to have it in my hands in a couple of weeks. Will be doing a full restoration.

Badcrumble 4204 Posted March 25, 2021 @J@mes your post about shortening wires spurred me into action. I found this thread and ordered a tool from Banggood. My first ever order so I got a free servo too! Then ordered a set of 5 Futaba style plugs and sockets for £2.50 off eBay. My trail rig needs it's leads shortening so everything fits under the bonnet! 3
nel33 870 Posted March 25, 2021 I dropped by my parents house and my brother happened to be there. I don't see him too often these days due to work. Had a family meal with him and our parents and then I went for a walk with him. I brought my slash along with me, ripped around on dry grass leaves a bit then moved to defunct parking lot in the park. I let him drive the slash a bit, it got the attention of some small children who tried chasing it. They weren't able to catch it but they sure tried. It got a bit more crowded from 4 kids to 7 and one bike. I took his suggestion to head to a better area to avoid any unforseen incidents. I did play race the kids a bit near the end before moving onto the pedestrian road. I weaved between items and children with safe margin and good rate of speed. I finished off with some straight line runs and he took a short video of one of them. He had alot of fun and so did i watching the kids futilely chase it the weren't any older than 8yrs old maybe a 10yr old was on a bike but I can't really be sure of his age. We parted ways after the speed run video and the battery finished after a few more speed runs. I need to buy a 2nd battery for the slash...
El Gecko 1344 Posted March 25, 2021 A few mistakes with the masking, and I used metalflake silver instead of metallic silver, but not bad for my first time ever painting anything on an RC besides a half-hearted attempt at tire lettering... they ended up matching the color on the CRP nerf bars almost perfectly! I have some plans to paint my Grasshopper wheels, so I decided to use this pair from my first Frog for a bit of practice. My cousin had these wheels mounted to homemade steel skis with tiny chains for snow driving, but they never worked as intended. So off came the skis, and after some sanding and a lot of masking, they've been given new life as the "runner" wheels for whenever I finally get the Frog running again

Re-Bugged 10150 Posted March 26, 2021 Seeing as I still had a bit of masking tape and Metallic Black left over I thought I may as well use it.... I must admit I’m getting excited now 😃
OOZZEE 104 Posted March 26, 2021 Picked up a new Shell for the Old girl and gave it a quick strip down and clean up, I was going to clean the bulkhead caps with WD 40 but I am starting to like the older look
nel33 870 Posted March 26, 2021 I took the time to try and hand draw the window pattern on the new slash shell. One looked great the other hand drawn one had slightly different curves. I cut the window masking and put it on the she'll. The gaps and curves didnt match so I chose the nicer one and placed 3 long strips of masking tape. I drew the pattern with pencil and realised the outer shell I put it on matches the inner area I need it on. I cut and put the masking tape one after removing the one supplied with the she'll and fine tuned the gaps. Was running low on masking tape in general so 2 note pad ply papers layers and some tape to hold them on the inner she'll seemed to go good. Just put the girst thin layer of black on the shell and waiting 15 min so I can continue painting it fit 3 more coats. When the black is done all the masking tape and paper ply covers can be removed. I forgot how long it could take to mask and prepare the she'll for painting and I almost shot the black paint without masking the areas for the other color LOL. EDIT: so i finally got the first color ie black painted on the RC body to a sufficiently low level of light getting through it. took 7-8 light layers and 2hrs to do all that as some places were still looked like TV static. there are still some minor static areas but the overall coverage is dark enough. id say tommorow but its already 3am here so after i get some sleep and wake up i will do the other main color and then will just need to put smoke on the windows. it should effectively be done painting on friday PS-31 or not. id love to post pics but the paint scheme is a unique one and why tease with a few preliminary pics that might give away the theme?? aw shoot one of my tape lines came off the body surface and paint bleed got in there but polycarbonate cleaner will do the trick. i also ordered a 5000mah Traxxas flat battery 2960x for my slash from LHS. for an extra 2 dollars i can get a 4200 MAH flat battery with that stupid connector on amazon or save $2 and get a 5000MAH battery delivered to the LHS. both have that stupid connector plug but thats fine with me, i dont feel like soldering the battery wires and the 3000MAH battery doesnt last too long if its being used fairly aggressively and still having a good walk in the park. Room335 738 Posted March 26, 2021 Completed Step 8 of my Turbo Optima build. Yes folks, all of that anodized goodness installed at once! I think I have gold fever.
nel33 870 Posted March 26, 2021 so my 5000MAH battery is off the table, hard to find stock of that one, ive asked the the LHS to check stock with the 50008.4V hump battery and then look at 4200MAH flat if no 5000MAH are available. getting a 3000 or 3300MAH battery is far from ideal as its the same or slightly bigger capacity than current 3000MAh one in the slash... its an ok one if i need any sort of back up one the cigarette lighter port battery charger i have only accepts the special ESC variant... i took off the masking on the main body, cleared the end overspray and saw the windows have slight overspray due to too many masking layers to fine tune it. i forgot to tamp down the tape before putting the color but its something a small paint brush and wood toothpick can fix later on. i put on the first later of 2nd color on main body and have time for a 2nd before i need to head out for a while. Badcrumble 4204 Posted March 26, 2021 After a heavy week at work, some retail therapy was required. I know I said at the start of the year that I was going to try and focus on one project at a time but....who was I kidding? I've ordered a new ESC for the JK, XT60 connectors this time which will be my future plug of choice as part of the fleet goes LiPo over the next twelve months. Plus some black paint to cover up the hideous styrene surgery I have attempted on the body (with more yet to come). And a servo extension lead so I can out the ESC in the rear and the Rx under the 'hood'. More XT60 connectors to practice soldering. Some servo extension leads to enable 4WS on the TXT-2 summer build. Paint for that build too. Paint for my SCX10III shell. Paint for my Mini DevHack. Motor and ESC combo, pinions, metal propshaft and metal hexes for my modded Outlaw. Is that enough to keep me going?!
Willy iine 18806 Posted March 26, 2021 Wired up a larger switch on my new 1060 and a screw into the lever to make compatible with the rubber switch grommet on the original Wild Willy. I have a used one coming to me so preparing the electronics for the restoration. Yes the switch moved a little bit while I was drilling.. so the screw is slanted..however secure and will be hidden under the grommet. Not entirely happy but that is life.

Willy iine 18806 Posted March 26, 2021 svenb - Nice job. Looks great. Fine tip Sharpie the door and hood parting-line? Finally finished making custom wheel chocks and stands for my Willy's. My Willy's are actually all slightly floating while on display to prevent flat spotting the tires).
nel33 870 Posted March 27, 2021 So I had to modify my Traxxas battery order to the flat 8,4v 4200MAH, still happy with it as the 5000mah were not in stock. Managed to put 2 paint layers on the body before heading to work. Got back now and put another layer, still need 2-3 more for good coverage before silver backing goes on. The window lines need more attention when silver is done. the painting looks well enough to start posting it now. i think i have an unhealthy obsession with the Tamiya PS paint 88919 metallic wine red.... also 2 tone issues. the FD3S will be PS black and no other color aside from smoke. so its mostly finished painting now. just used a small paint brush(polycarb cleaner) and toothpick to clean up some paint bleed. i just need to put some smoke on the windows. a trophy will go to the first person who guesses the theme of the truck paint job. im gonna do the smoke tint on the windows another day. the window design didnt make sense on the car it came on back in the day either. the protective film is still on the outer body until i get the ps-31 on it.

I'd love to get a set like these I think they're Troll brand tires maybe? I've seen some called "V-tractor" on Ebay that look very similar. I wish I knew--they don't have any markings and I'm not the one who bought them originally--they were mounted to my Hornet when I got it. And speaking of the Hornet, you got me curious about the offroad traction compared to standard Hornet spike tires, so I actually did some back to back driving with each set on the Grasshornet yesterday. As for the differences, let's just say it's complicated. The Troll tires are almost 50g heavier than normal Hornet tires (for the pair), and I'm not sure how much of that is attributable to the solid wheels on the Troll tires, but I'm assuming not 25g per wheel (all are plastic 3pc wheels with standard screws/nuts, the ones on the Troll tires just don't have the 5 spoke cutouts). This, combined with the driving characteristics, leads me to believe the Troll tires are a thicker rubber than the Hornet tires, at least for the main belt and sidewalls. The Troll chevrons are just as soft as the Hornet pin spikes, and each digs in about the same in a straight line. I didn't have access to really soft sandy loose terrain, but I'd guess the Troll tires would act like paddles and be quite a bit better than the Hornet spikes. I noticed some big differences in cornering, particularly under power. The Hornet spikes continue to dig in as you go sideways, offering a decent level of grip from all angles, even if they're spinning. But the Troll tires, like the paddles on a standard Grasshopper, will slide out sideways more quickly and easily. It's still controllable, but it's a bit odd to get used to at first, because they act like Hornet spikes on the straightaways but Grasshopper paddles in the corners. And the transition from power-understeer to power-oversteer is in a completely different place. They also have a taller, more rigid sidewall due to the thicker rubber, so although they give a smidge more ground clearance, they make the car more prone to rollovers on really rough terrain. The motor also seems to get bogged a bit easier with the taller, heavier tires, but on the flip side they'll give you a slightly higher top speed.
Ferruz 11702 Posted March 27, 2021 @El Gecko Thanks for the detailed report👍 I'll sure grab a pair of those Trolls to try out if I ever get the chance. As for the Hornet's Super Gripper and the Hopper's Padlatrax, I love them both. The Hornet's tires preform well and are my favorite tire design ever for a buggy, too bad the spikes go faster than a beer on a Summer's day, on the contrary the Padlatrax last much longer, had mine on for almost one full year now and there's a lot of life left in them.
Wez-li 1790 Posted March 27, 2021 Finished off the top force rebuild. Had it for ages but been busy. I gotta admit I really like this body that came with it, I've also got a penguin body and decals to do, not chosen a colour yet though. Also mocked up the next project its a Df01 (surprise surprise) still needs a strip and rebuild with hop ups. I'm gonna make it a Terra Conqueror 2021
