I should have waited longer because it smudged and left a right mess! Now it seems somewhat ingrained into the yellow. So I’m left with sanding and redoing it, pairing over it with yellow, or just having fun with it. I might pick up another shell and decals for the shelf and leave this as a runny shell. I quite like the idea of making the scratches into rust marks like I saw someone has done... but my skills are pretty bad with painting so we will see Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Once there is a surface scratch the uncured enamel will work into the plastic. Actually that is still spot repairable, but not sure if you're up for it. I am assuming you painted directly on the plastic. In this case I would sand off the blemish using #1500 sanding sponge with a delicate touch, then follow up with a dry soft paper towel or napkin and polish until it shines like the surrounding plastic. I use Bounty brand paper towels in the USA as reference. That is actually how I repair surface scratches on the roll cage corners on my restored Willy's. Cynan 520 Posted April 22, 2021 In some places the undercoat of yellow has come off too so it’s probably gonna be a case of masking off the window rubber and respaying I might have a go.. but first, restoring a driver head by painting the helmet in red, before redoing the face and then the black around the helmet... and also currently painting the body too in white... Willy iine 18806 Posted April 22, 2021 Cynan - If that is enamel yellow you used under the black trim, then you're right, you will need to touch up the yellow. Cynan 520 Posted April 22, 2021 I sprayed the lunchbox all over with TS-16 and then used X-18 on top. Today also fitted the DF03s to my HS2 runner. Used the front pistons all round with the rear shocks and they fit perfectly. You can also see alu front knuckles. PS metallic blue the area with translucent coverage has silver backing half and the other is white. gonna compare that t PS 30 brilliant blue today at LHS. its a very sneaky color with the white and silver backing changing darkness if you angle it the other way in comparison the physics of light are very confusing at times... 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

No matter which of the adapters I’m using there’s not enough thread on the wheel axle to secure the wheel. nel33 870 Posted April 22, 2021 Picked up my 4200mah NIMH Traxxas battery with battery I'd connector at LHS just now, forgot to bring the blue test sample to compare it to ps30; how typical... I did notice it alot but got it for the tt02 body. Lockdown has just ended here, so I went into one of their stores for the first time in ages and immediately noticed that their range of Cricut vinyls, machines and accessories had exploded. My needs were simple, but the massive range of (viewable in store for colour matching needs) vinyl was pretty epic. If you are decorating a shell and looking for the perfect thing, well worth a go. I don’t have a Cricut cutting machine, just cut by hand. The latter half I don't remember correctly but the sentiment was there. I wanted to try my ps30 brilliant blue so I took a scrap piece of lexan, washed and dried it. Took the blue paint can and did a light mist before checking the cap on the paint. I just put a light layer of metallic blue on the lexan. It dried within a few seconds so I either take another unpainted piece, clean/remove the ps16 or make an even fine metallic blue mist on it. I chose door 3 and door 1, the plan is to put ps30 on both pieces now and compare the results. Hopefully the ps16 layer adds a metallic flair to the ps30 brilliant blue. It might take a bit of practice if it works out well on full scale to achieve fine ps16 mist but it's worth the test paint pieces. While I'm at it I'm just going to do test patches of the upcoming color I'm going to use on Manta and Sileighty. Edit, it looks like ps30 has some metal flake and maybe the ps16 only serves to make it much darker than ps30 but I will see in the sunlight tomorow Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
mongoose1983 3335 Posted April 23, 2021 Dirty job gettin' done today. This is for another Tamiya fan here in my country. Caustic soda did the job, but not without some elbow grease. There were three nasty layers of paint. The obvious blue/white first, then some thick black, and then this rubbish red which was pretty hard to remove. Hopefully this will be completely stripped and painted next Sunday. Not sure we'll have sun enough to do that though. Although not the easiest to use I can highly recommend the translucent paints, I really like the depth and colour changing ability they give, most of my issues have been caused by spraying in the cold but I'm way to impatient to do it any other way. that a very nice blue color there, kinda wished if i didnt go metallic for the Manta then that would be the color. i have a tendency to paint the bodies with a certain theme as to dictate the colors. the Manta theme i have in mind needs the metallic flake to complete the paint job. the ps30 test patch turned out nicely without needing a backing color it may not be as intricate in color change but im looking for a specific blue of the Sileighty which is a hue thats slightly darker. I'm planning on running it in anger on grass tomorrow afternoon. I've done a livingroom test run, and now I'm really excited and can't wait to run it!! It's finally time for this fella to wake up and get some ACTION!! I'm not going to lie and say I suddenly figured out how to do this correctly, but I found out that two 1150 bearings inside each adapter solved this issue so now that's sorted. Now all I have to do is to understand why the wheels on both axles turn the same way and renders it useless. Once that is done I'm actually going to be able to drive this. 3 months in the making. I settled for a repro one - not completely Tamiya quality, but actually quite good. I added an SLT servo and and a Hobbywing 1060 to the GT Tuned motor and took it for a spin round the current racing by post course. nel33 870 Posted April 23, 2021 bought some useful stuff for work and also some brake cleaner for my RC stuff, no point in buying a small can for +$10 when $7 gets you a bigger can of the same stuff essentially. i also got this feisty girl, calling her Minerva (RE Zero series) because she's crazy and unpredictable. atleast she was when i was driving back, i look at the bag holding her water and see she's not in the water, she jumped, got stuck on the wall of the bag above the water level.... i tip the water to her level and she keeps jumping, getting stuck 2 more times... hopefully she calms down now that she's in the proper tank. she was jumping alot when i was transporting her back home. 1 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
