Built and mounted the shocks on the Associated RC10 B6.3D and it looks like a real proper buggy now. Mounting the tires tonight, soldering the electronics Friday or Saturday. It feels really close to finished. I should be able to race next Friday and live out my childhood dream of coming in third in a race full of children.
My partner works in education and I write technical instructions as part of my IT job. I have to say that I'm strongly tempted to rewrite Associated's manual and make it twice as comprehensive. The gulf between their instructions and Tamiya's is surprisingly deep and wide.

So at the top of the page the site is taking a poll asking members “Does the club need more member blogs” or not.  I am not allowed to vote nor see the poll results with no explanation.

What is that about?  If you don’t want members posting their RC activities, just say so and I will stop..(?)

I've noticed that too. I can't vote either.

That makes me feel better because you are a veteran here and highly regarded.

I thought maybe people hated my red MicroRS4 posts.  LOL

Took all but 2 cars to lock up storage, back seats down in the family wagon & it was 2 trips with the car rammed full 90% was RC! The cost of the storage over 6 months is equivalent to a couple of kits plus all the hop ups, ohh well needs must. Need to declutter for some minor renovations then at some point a house move, new place will need to accommodate a growing collection.

I think that dates from a very long time ago, certainly before I joined.

One of the oldies will know :D

If it can make you feel even better, I can't vote either (and don't really have idea what that is about anyway).

Funny thing is, I may be wrong but I could swear that when I joined the forum a couple years ago I could vote in that poll. Should have taken advantage back then ahah

So, thanks to my wife that used to go there as a kid, today I found out about another LHS which, as a matter of fact, is closer to me than the other.

The guy there was super nice and we had a good talk about vintage RC. Given the times we live in, I'll count that as socializing! There were some Tamiya kits on display finally -good for you, hobby shop!- so for the first time in my life, even if just for a moment, I could lay my hands on a Fighting Buggy box (priced 1000 CAD) and on a FAV (priced 600 CAD).

Owner said he should have a lot of vintage goodies and hop ups hidden in the basement that he's going to dig out soon, so another visit in a month or so is a must. I wanted to support the shop so bough a couple things that definitely won't hurt even though I didn't really need them. A yummy NIP Reedy Radon motor and an old decal set (can't ever have too many vintage tiny stickers!).

Like every good hobby shop, this one has its fair share of the most random Tamiya products.

How about an amphibious vehicle

20210429-110826.jpg

If that's too mainstream for you, then a soulless, motor propelled swan may be more enticing

20210429-110823.jpg

As for me, I would definitely pick the Mechanical Pig (please note: Shaking head type 🤣) man they do take some liberties at Tamiya... SO random

Topped out the outing with a few runs with the Manta Ray in a park where I've never been before. It felt good to have some actual face to face RC talk

As I told you already, great choice. For the price they are amazing quality, both in the looks and most important in the performance. I'm sure you'll be happy with them

out of curiosity, did you change the spring tension on the springs to fine tune them and did you change the oil since purchasing them? im wondering what oil weight they put in them but they seems to have a good tension as is.

NON RC related: i got the season DVD set of transformers Beast Machines in today, 1 day shipping and im waiting for the 3 seasons of Beast Wars Transformers to arrive.

@nel33 the oil weight should be 1000 cst, at least that's what the seller told me back then but I think I can confirm. I've used this weight when replacing the oil in the rear dampers, the front ones are still untouched and didn't need maintenance so far. I do adjust the spring tension from time to time depending on surface and driving style/conditions.

thank you for the reply. it would've been useful if they included that in the ad but cant complain given the price and quality of the shocks. sort of a newb question here, i guess you put less tension the rougher the terrain gets?

Opened it about 4pm, and after some fuffing around, dinner etc, got to this stage. 12:30am, time for bed, otherwise mistakes will happen 😬

swoped out the rear damper cylinders with nos on the hornet after the originals leaked the oil out when i serviced them last month

changed the front uprights on the manta ray

deceided to have another go at the grand hauler steering mod swoped the rod ends for offset ones to give even better angle and seems to have done the trick.  swoped the servo saver for a alloy one also that just happened to fly through the letter box while i was doing the steering mod gonna order the same parts for the merc truck

It has been a busy day

After breakfast and packing el kid off to school (escorted by Mrs BC), I commenced with making some inner rear panels for the JK.

DSC_0694.jpg

I transferred the templates to plasticard, then super glued them to the body. I then had to take a break to go and get my first COVID jab. Once back, I set about reinforcing the glued joints with Araldite. I mixed up some of the glue to reinforce the sills I put on recently.

DSC_0693.jpg

Thanks to @JennyMo for all the guidance and inspiration!

Mrs BC then took me out to lunch (coffee and a toastie outside during the one rain shower of the day!), then a quick trip to town to order a jacket (you didn't need to know that, did you?).

Back at the ranch and I moved on to uncharted territory. Snap connectors!

DSC_0695.jpg

It took a couple of goes to get a strong connection but I'm quite pleased with the results. With connectors on the ESC and motor leads it was time to attach said leads to the motor. That meant trying out something new - soldering!

DSC_0697.jpg

It might not be pretty but the motor spins so I'm happy.

Of course, fitting the motor it meant removing the steering servo of the tight-for-space-under-the-hood JK and refitting it. The holes on the servo mount aren't great and the beefy HH motor is probably pushing the servo out of true. Is that the reason why I stripped a hex head? D'oh!

I also fitted the nice new 48DP pinion.

DSC_0698.jpg

I pressed in regardless, threw it all together and found my Tamiya-to-XT60 connector. And...

DSC_0699.jpg

It lives! It ran round the garden with its rear tyres rubbing - that NiMh battery has got to go.

Plenty more to do to finish it off but I'm ridiculously pleased with myself, hence the rambling and self-indulgent post! :D

I was deleting stuff on the phone today when I stumbled upon this picture that I saved a while ago, I don' even remember where I found it

Thought I'd share it, because well...

...you know when a friend says "I got a couple rc cars in the shed"..

Badcrumble - Nice job!  Soldering looks fine too, no issue.  I also like using those snap connectors (I call them Tamiya bullet connectors) and usually solder new wires to the old M38 Mabuchi motors as well.

Ferruz -   Looks like a mass grave..!  LOL

I needed a sanity break from the 1:18 project I did earlier this week, so drove 2 of my M38 Willy's today along with Billy's Flamingo.  It was a very pleasant return to normalcy.  :D

I also started planning a vintage Pajero (5844) project which will probably start in about a month or so.  I had one back in the day and just wanted another one to play with for nostalgic reasons.  However, this time I plan to install Willy so it will most-likely be another military themed GP car to go with my entire scheme.

Thanks @Willy iine, I was just so pleased that that I actually managed to get the motor to spin!

I would have called them 'motor bullets' but went with the description on the 50245 pack!

I wanted them for consistency with my other cars in case I wanted to switch the motor or ESC in future. Probably won't though!

Is that just one vertical layer or several layers? That's ALOT of RC cars...

I started packing up my home office yesterday (AKA daughter 3’s bedroom 😂).

So my Sand Scorcher and Super Champ have now been packed away ready to go into storage tomorrow.

3 Tamiya left in that room to pack away another day and then onto the next room, sort of working our way upwards to the top floor bit by bit.

Move 3 weeks on Monday and can’t wait, will be a royal PITA for few months, but hopefully it will be all worth it in the end.
