And some bling for the buggy too.

(I know that on a real car, putting tow points on the body work is stupid, but on a RC car, I think cutting/drilling the chassis is not a great idea)

Nice!  I have the same kit in my Bushy D.  Works great!

It’s for my GF01 which is now almost fully hopped up and very over the top, but has been fun to keep adding kit! Just working out the front bumper and then I think it will be complete. Although I’ve ordered a roll bar to try too ;)

Oil dampers for a wheelie bar? Are you going to put oil filled shock absorbers for your front bumper too, so that you can control the amount of shock and rebound when you crash? 😁

That's a great idea!  I do have an extra set of 50520s lying around...

ETA here's a hop-ups Willy bumper.  Just a little bit of work and you could have oil filled on there!

Should the shock be installed with the oil facing front or rear? (in reference to my right side up shocks thread) 😁

The best bet would be to mount (4) shocks, with (2) facing front and (2) facing rear.

That way you get full protection when you hit the concrete wall with your 10.5t brushless...

Had the TA07 on the new setup station. I was dubious about getting one as they seem a lot of money so went with the Yeah Racing as its a lot cheaper than others.. Also on rctech the consensus seemed to be that they were all fine regardless of brand. The station seems great quality, it has heaps of bearings so runs smoothly and just works as it should.

I can certainly see the value. I had swapped all my turnbuckles to titanium ones (only bent one, but you get a full set so swapped them all) and despite best efforts camber was out on one side (consistently out, 1 degree front and rear on the left, 2 deg on the right) and also toe on the front by a small amount. 2 more cars to go.

Since switching to the new venue I've been trying to dial out oversteer on corner exit, almost there as it just happens on hairpins now, but will need to get the setup guide out next and play around. Of course the F1 has the opposite problem, not enoigh steering on corner entry so have a new front wing to try.

Took the Holiday Buggy and Swift out for their first drive in anger since installing hex front hubs on the HB and swapping the Swift back to its Ra settings.

Unfortunately, the Swift run had to be halted early due to a dislocation of the dogbone.

I’ve been looking at that for my GF01 but the anodized blue looks very different to the Yeah Racing stuff.

Spent some time today finessing what will be the Poor Man's Sand Scorcher, aka the Hornet Baja Bug conversion I am building for my daughter.

20211203_122028.thumb.jpg.afedcac2f0ba4b75f2c03d9f1213603a.jpg

The big metal body mounting bracket from the Parma GH/Hornet monster truck conversion kit is now fitted. The instructions say that the front suspension mounts should be cut off and the front springs should be replaced by shocks mounted on one of the three holes in the metal plate. I have no idea how they think that would happen, as it would require enormous shocks and the mounting points do not line up with the ones on the suspension arms, meaning they would bind really badly.

Note the addition of a couple of tie wraps to the tops of the suspension shafts. We used to do this back when I used to race a Grasshopper in the 80s, as it lowered and pre-loaded the bouncy front suspension a little and made it a bit more predictable. It also partially counters the fact that the Brat wheels and tyres are considerably larger than the standard ones. It also unfortunately increases the natural tendency of the front set-up towards toe-in, which has to be countered by adjusting the steering arms, but there really isn't much you can do about that.

Love those wheels and tyres, though. Not sure how they'll interact with the Bug body, but if they're too wide I will replace the fronts with FAV treaded narrow fronts on standard Hornet front wheels.

20211203_122049.thumb.jpg.0a6c3e74c48a66ed3d19e8915a2e76d8.jpg

The electronics. Cheap, unbranded ESC, tiny Flysky Rx, servo from eBay that came with steering arms attached as this chassis didn't have any when I bought it. It never ceases to amaze me how much room there is in a GH/Hornet nowadays. When I first had one, the whole of the top deck of the interior would be filled with a pair of servos, an MSC, a chunky Futaba 2-channel Rx and a box containing 4 AA batteries. Now there's almost too much room.

Since this was taken I tidied it up a little by threading the short Rx aerial through the aerial mount and adding a tiny aerial tube which will stand up inside the Bug body. I also realised I'd mounted the ESC unhelpfully, meaning the on/off switch wouldn't reach to the rear suspension mounting where I would have chosen to put it. I have now stuck it to the inside edge of the tub, next to the servo, so that it is flush with the lip. This should make it accessible with a finger under the larger Bug shell, but in that spot it might suffer from having water sprayed on it from the right front wheel if it is used in the wet. We'll see how that goes.

The motor cables look a bit long and flappy, so might need to be shortened and resoldered at some point to prevent them getting caught in whatever my daughter manages to get caught up in.

20211203_122123.thumb.jpg.5d5971d7153b8b2242ef96819cd1e1f6.jpg

I have not fitted the Brat rears yet, as when it arrived the chassis did not have suitable wheel adaptors fitted, being instead fitted with a set of Grasshopper II wheels and tyres that had clearly been used on tarmac to the point where they were completely worn smooth. They were actually pretty cool-looking and probably would have been quite grippy, but there is a crack in the shoulder of the carcass on one, so they will probably be binned once the adaptors for the Brat rears arrive.

The Hornet shocks seem fine and are normally pretty sound units, but they are probably empty of oil and sorting those will be one of my next jobs. The springs in the suspension guide slots were also missing from this chassis, but I have found I have a spare set so it will not cause a delay and I just need to get them fitted as well when I sort out the shocks.

After that it will be the body, which will be the first Lexan body I have painted in about ten years, so wish me luck. Once that is sorted, I will fit the rear body mounts, as I currently don't know how tall I need to make them.

Besides mostly work today and getting my 1:1 wheel resurfaced and painted at my buddy’s wheel repair shop,  I sprayed Willy’s helmet gloss blue, and disassembled the F-100 body to see how I can alter the look a little and to see how to fix (or make a new one) the broken rear bumper.

And received the rug in proper size for the space.. using humpbacks as weight to flatten.

For kicks here is the repaired Prodrive wheel.

I would probably keep the dark wheel nuts and paint the decorative lugs on those wheels.   Should look nice.

Good job on pushing out those wheels!

@JeffSpicoli I love the Brat you posted in the photos only thread!  Nice job.

Man, after seeing so many Brats, I may need to figure out a way to comicalize one for my GF01.. ^_^

Put the Christmas tree together first, then adjusted the TT02 chassis wheelbase from 257 to 251mm, while having a coffee before going to work, and suits the Escort body much better. The offset on some wheels I bought for it a while ago wasn’t working. But as it turns out some narrow Axial hexes that I’d picked up in error at some point also worked out for this one, so a bit of a result today 😁

A mate of mine had one as well back then. The first Tamiya RC I’d driven. (hence why I’m where I am today with Tamiya!!)
How we used to laugh at his mum’s frustration trying to start her Scimitar to go shopping when the battery was flat as we’ed drained it fast charging the Brat from it 😂🤣

After cleaning the cars and popping back the dislocated dogbone, I gathered some hop up bits I have in my spares bin for the upcoming M-06 build. There are, obviously, more bits on their way.
