wun1jee 343 Posted April 5, 2022 Today I added a very special Tamiya to my collection. This TA05 belonged to my friend Mike Alan. Mike was the TCS 1998 FWD champion. He raced this car in 2006 TCS GT2. Here it is at the race in 2006. The all-white NSX. Mike passed away of cancer last year, November 22nd. He's very much missed. 4

Just like Tamiya another bottomless money pit. 🤑 Seriously though enjoy them whilst they’re young. One minute they are like this the next thing you know they are 33 and 30!!!!! It is currently on my other car and may need to pick one up for the buggy. Cost for cover was around US$12. Cover is standard in the TT-02 Freelander quad track. Instructions noted this is for Cars and not buggies

I can spot the first blue bling hop-up on the head 😁 I believe some blue anodised nappies/diapers can be picked up from Plaza Japan to really get the mods going!

Are you sure you got that from a reputable dealer? That's not a proper Tamiya blue damper cap
jonboy1 2943 Posted April 5, 2022 got a little bit more done on my hybrid Lunchbox - dyed the arms black, fitted the tyres and body mounts and finished off the gearbox. I need to tinker with the springs and oil, as the front is far too hard and the rear a bit soft. (not quite sure what happened with the bottom photo!)

How does it drive with new suspension?

silvertriple 3557 Posted April 5, 2022 Launched the print of a RC Workstand I designed in Fusion 360... (you can download it here : RC Work Stand by silvertriple - Thingiverse - it may be too big for small 3D printers, I will create a smaller one)

They noise gets worse, trust me. Also remember to keep your screws, etc locked away, if not, you may have to wait a day or two for them to show up again.

TurnipJF 9192 Posted April 5, 2022 Today I swapped out the dirty off-white spindles and connectors from my Grasshopper Black Edition for some black ones. Fine for a stock one, but not for a Black Edition. Much better!
Willy iine 18806 Posted April 5, 2022 @TurnipJF Nice! It’s those small details that make a difference. For me, I was able to leave the office a tad earlier than expected so painted the fire trash can. Weird.. my wife is giving me an A for this one as well. What the heck, this was easy to make.. oh so that’s why I got an A..
Frankster 2033 Posted April 6, 2022 Great weather and took the reconditioned Manta Ray out for a drive. All was great until 3 out of 4 damper connections broke. I would blame this on 17 year old brittle plastic. Question: should I upgrade to new aluminum damper towers or buy a new plastic replacement tree from Tamiya? Both cost the same but with the plastic tree I have other spare parts as well
Willy iine 18806 Posted April 6, 2022 @Frankster Nice car! Sorry to see the broken towers. I would run the plastic towers unless you plan on swapping those dampers with aluminum housing ones.

Frankster 2033 Posted April 6, 2022 Thanks @Willy iine and @TurnipJF. Will keep it simple and stick with plastic. I was also looking at black anodized aluminum but it has been sold out.
Jonathon Gillham 4606 Posted April 6, 2022 @Frankster where are you based? I'm pretty sure I have the Manta Ray shock tower leftover from my Top Force, what are the chances you're in NZ...
Frankster 2033 Posted April 6, 2022 @Jonathon Gillham thanks for the offer. I am based in Hong Kong. Might be a little far to mail

Both cost the same but with the plastic tree I have other spare parts as well Can you not just replace the self tappers with m3 machine screws and nuts. The lugs that broke free of the towers then effectively just become spacers between the shocks and towers?
