The rear body mounting holes really need some additional lexan inside the shell imo if you are going to run it.

Anything more and you have to be prepared that it's gonna get bashed up. When I build mine I think it will just be a shelfer. 1 hour ago, topforcein said: if like i have in mine and you put a brushless setup in that it will make it a wheelie machine and trash the shell in no time at all Lol, oh dear, good to know that for my Blitzer Beetle future build. Brushless is a no-no then!

I hear your pain about running a car after all the hard work. Is the front suppose to be so low? Interesting wedge profile and never noticed this before
Frankster 2033 Posted May 15, 2022 Today I ordered new parts for another build. Also replaced and upgraded the servo to one of my two trucks. Weather was too poor for outdoor driving
Willy iine 18805 Posted May 15, 2022 Looks great, @bavee!! So for me, going to swap the front tires to these off my DT02. I believe @Juhunio runs these tires on his SuperAstute and for good reason! I will save the front SuperAstute tires and wheels for while my car is on display. Will hit the white with some semi-gloss black. Okay, primed and painted. Would've been done sooner had I not dropped one while painting. I am such a dumb klutz.. fixed and turned out okay though.

Only issue there would be that the Sand Viper wheels are 24mm wide and the Super Astute are 19mm, so the Sand Viper tyres will be too wide for the Super Astute wheels. Guess they'll still sort of fit in a way though?

Should I just glue some scrap lexan around the mounting hole? Or would that effect the paint? 2 hours ago, Kol__ said: Looks amazing mate! Can the rear of the shell sit any lower on the rear posts? Tyres will rub the body when I lower the body at the rear. Think I wil try to heighten the front posts a bit. I have tried casual running in the past but it doesn't work for me. In the end you want to see what the limits are. And then... everything goes wrong . 1 hour ago, Frankster said: Great job. I hear your pain about running a car after all the hard work. Kol__ 3377 Posted May 15, 2022 (edited) 16 hours ago, Willy iine said: So I test drove the SuperAstute to do some initial setups and I have to say the front tires suck. I want to try the car using different set of front tires down the road, but for now the car is set up. Some push-under which I don’t like, but I think it’s mainly from the front tires. I moved the uprights to the rear setting which caused the wheel to rub the hub carrier (I am running universals) so I added 1mm spacers. I will get some 7mm hex hubs on order. I also noticed the BZ gets pretty hot in 7-8min so ordered some 22T 05mod pinions. I hope there is enough swing on the motor adjustment to accommodate the pinion. I wanted some 23T but could not find any. Will start the body maybe tomorrow. I'm not a fan of the look of the standard SA front tyres at all, but I believe they're designed for off road dirt and gravel. I haven't driven on a set yet myself. Were you running them in you indoor track by any chance? If so, maybe they don't do so well on that sort of surface? I tried for ages to find a 23 tooth 05 module steel pinion for my modified Madcap fitted with the 2018 SA TTC gearbox. The only ones I could find where 5mm bore ones for RC helicopters. I considered making a sleeve to fit to our motor size (3.2mm bore iirc), but decided not to bother in the end. So I am using one of only 2 original 25T SA steel pinions that I own. I also bought a 22T pinion, but the pinion wouldn't mesh with the spur before the motor stopped it when hitting the gearbox casing when pushed/rotated fully forward. Could've just been my motor? But the 22T didn't work for me Edit: sorry @Willy iine, not trying to burst your SA bubble today! Edited May 15, 2022 by Kol__ Bubble burstin'

Thanks for the info on the 22T pinion! I suppose I will have to force fit it on when the time comes.
Badcrumble 4203 Posted May 15, 2022 Too wet for outdoor back garden running today. I managed to buy and install a water butt before the rain came. This afternoon got together with a couple of mates for a distinctly non-RC activity. That's what has been taking me away from RC the last few months - making that table and painting the miniatures. Our gaming triumvirate might be taking a summer break due to scheduling conflicts so hopefully I'll get some Tamiya time instead

Seems most likely to depend on the specifics of the motor (my motor is 30+ years old, so don't go looking for it ) Interestingly I couldn't get the Schumacher low profile cut staggers to sit nicely on my Kyosho wheels, so went with the Tamiya rib+spike. I actually liked them for pure grass running. My problem was more of an excess of grip at the rear from the yellow compound Schumacher mini spike.

Grumpy pants 4485 Posted May 15, 2022 @bavee good question about the glue. Maybe use some something else - I bought and used some rc body protectors - small thin rings of foam on my Konghead to protect the body shell and they worked really well. 1

I actually liked them for pure grass running. My problem was more of an excess of grip at the rear from the yellow compound Schumacher mini spike. Thanks for the info! This is good news. I have a bunch of old (but like new) Trinity motors too so if my BZ does not fit with the 22T, I will try the other motors. As for the front tires on the SuperAstute ..I got the DT02 tires to fit the SuperAstute front wheels (now painted black). I tried it on the car and it was far worse than the stock SuperAstute front tires as far as push-under. So I tried the HolidayBuggy triple ribbed tires off my modified DT02 and it was better than the factory DT02 front tires.. but when I went back to the SuperAstute front tires, the car performed the best. So, I decided to dial in some expo on the forward throttle as it was my motor choice and throttle input overwhelming the overall dynamics coming out of the turn in my driving environment. (So I ordered more SuperAstute front tires. ) I also drove my DT02 with silver can right after driving my SuperAstute and it was significantly slower, easier to drive, and a better match for my tiny makeshift track. So in summary, for my SuperAstute, I decided it is my motor choice and driving input as culprit (since I can’t dial in more rotation via ball diffs). With some expo and calmer driving, I got the SuperAstute to drive as I want to. I am very pleased with the car. Going to work on the body next..

I think if you drop the rear the front will level out. You’ve done a great job with the boxart scheme. Blitzers ain’t meant to be shelfers IMHO though. They need to be ragging around a dirt track!!! JeffSpicoli 1363 Posted May 15, 2022 Priming and painting driver figure tonight. Warming up to trying to put this onto model card and mounting it in like a full interior with a cage. V8 Rumble 113 Posted May 16, 2022 Still have many decals to put on and securing the body parts. I've been doing touring car bodies lately and almost forgot how time consuming these tamiya bodies are 😆 I love the detail. Sometimes I love the build more.
