Kind of like this?   I’m trying to fit an Avante driver and cockpit into my SuperAstute..  (the outer body protective liner is still on the body, it will be gloss black at the end)..

I was never a fan of black cars especially RC but after seeing this, it just changed my mind. Now I'm wanting a Super Astute so bad. I still wish I never gave my Astute away in 2007 (to a "friend" who promised to keep it but later I found out that he sold it <_<). It was still intact and in great shape.

Thanks!   I have decals I am planning to install later on, but I too fell in love with this car after seeing others’.   It is just a great looking timeless design.  :D

A cockpit does fit quite well, I popped one in mine.

Finally got the NOS decals for my Blackfoot III yesterday - after looking at the truck on the shelf with NO decals for weeks I couldn't get them on fast enough. But GEEZE - as Glenn from Tamiya Legends would say - what a ball ache!

Worth it still :) and I didn't realize the blue lightning had a metal flake to it.

Still waiting on an RC10T3 and BNIB Stadium Thunder (original!) to arrive!

Awesome!   Thanks for the picture.  I plan to attach the cockpit to the body making a flat mount on the inside.. how did you mount yours?

During the test fit this morning (per pictures above) I used some thick double sided tape to get a feel for location and clearance.

Something about this picture makes me want to see a mixed matte+gloss finish. Would be nasty to paint evenly  (even if it just needed masking and a matte clear coat on the outside)

I suppose what one can do is get some matte clear vinyl and apply it over the glossy lexan finish where desired..(?)

Actually ghost stripes (matte frost) can look good over glossy black.   :D   My SuperAstute this time will be running a different theme though.

Presumably so. The protective liner is effectively just a low-tack version of the same. I still don't think I have the skills/patience :)

Yes it is.

For me it’s more of I need someone to design it for me and I can sort of create it in tangible form.. on a good day if I’m lucky.

Sprayed the cockpit and helmet base colors.   The suit will be red.. so I am sure I made @Juggular frown as I am not suppose to paint dark colors first.     I’m also not suppose to eat so many chocolate chip cookies at one time.. :ph34r:

Paint is still wet..

Still not much time for RC in my life at the moment but have snatched a few minutes here and there to continue playing with the Radio Shack F100 on the GF-01 chassis:

GF01 track

I've reduced the track width by fitting new shorter arms. It takes just 10mm off on each side but really makes a difference as I think the standard GF01 is too wide for this body.

Looks great. I assume you are also running narrower hexes than the supplied ones. Think those wheels look great with the white with that body.

I love mine super wide, but for this style narrower works

Having created a narrower GF01 for my Military Truck I've also gone the other way with my last GF01 chassis and widened the track width to accomodate a Tandy van shell I picked-up. It's my take on the Kyosho Mad Van! I can't quite decide if I like it or not. Thoughts?...

Wide van

**** it man! Just told myself I don't need anymore RC cars then I see this. TLO1 long arms? Looks amazing. Did you try as an LB style or go straight to this?

Thanks.
These are the standard hexes that come with the GF01 kit but have ordered some thinner alloy ones.

No, I’ve just widened with extended hexes.

I also plonked it on the narrow GF01 (lunchbox like). Only got this pic unfortunately;

GF01 track

In some ways I prefer it to the low version but I guess I will get a Lunchbox at some stage anyway so might just keep going with the low rider ;)

I do still wish there was a similar tyre but 10-15% smaller. That would be perfect for so many projects I’ve got planned.

Oh, and the chassis that the van comes with is super blocky (will take a pic later). Mine’s a mess anyway but not sure it’s very usable on other projects.

I appreciate the sneak peak at where the shell colours will end up and I thoroughly approve.

I think I prefer the mad van style, especially as you've already got one of these as a monster truck style set up. It'll also be able to take corners much faster with a lower COG and wider wheelbase. It does really look like a small mad van too, there's just something really cool about a car that's a smaller version of a big one! Tempted to make one myself now!!!

You are right about tires. The GF01 tires are from the 1/12 scale lunchbox/Pumpkin at 115 mm, but they've not been scaled down for the smaller 1/14 (ish) bodies of the QD range (or ones like the above).  For big monster trucks they are perfect (as in fact the LB/Pumpkin have quite small tires for an MT) but for other builds they are too big.

I wonder if the Padaltrak tires might work well? I've got them on M chassis wheels on my MF01x, but could have a look at see what they look like on the GF01. Certainly a little smaller (around 82 mm) and lots of grip!  Blitzers (90 mm x 50 mm width) could also work well? Smaller than the 115 but still decent sized.

@Nikko85 yes, you should get one too! There was one going cheap in England on eBay I’m sure. I’m going to be replicating your Nissan King Cab at some stage. Sorry!

I’ve purchased lots of tyres recently so will do some playing but I’m still hoping there’s a lunchbox/pumpkin tyre but smaller to be found somewhere.

Started painting the torso and cockpit.  I think I’m going to keep this real simple.

Yeah, it's rough. I need to redo everything and strengthen it up, maybe tie the cage in now as well.

Today I pulled together a bag of assorted parts for my CR-01, MF-01X and TD4. And put them in the garage next to my charger. At least I'll know where they are for when I finally get some time to wrench (leaving a note here for when I can't find them in a few months time...).

Awesome, it's like a more badass, stealthed up, higher spec version of your Sand Viper mate. Really looking forward to seeing the finished result!B)

Edit: real nice job on the driver btw, it looks like something out of Star Wars, means business and all weathered looking.

Really cool colour choice on the AMG GTB), a little more of a statement than the metallic grey mate:lol:
