Busdriver 6209 Posted May 27, 2022 I had planned to sort out all the hardware for the GMade Gom so that I could start building, however something got in the way. Now for those of you that love the holiday buggy I apologise now!!!! I have been trying to beat the unpaintabilty if the body shell using heat, special paint and abrasion. Well it appears the last is the most successful though I would suggest it only suits wacky paint jobs like the following or plain matte finishes. Whichever it’s not going to win a concors prize or be particularly robust. Anyhow my mind was drawn to a post apocalyptic world where the Police had to use any vehicles to hand. Obviously everything was a bit worse for wear and spares were short so makeshift work was done to keep the vehicles running. One such is my HB on a shortened chassis( it’s supposed to be a basher to save my dune buggy body 😂) that has been co-opted by California Highway Patrol. ( they’re short on uniforms as well) Hope I haven’t offended too many HB lovers!!!!

I’m borrowing the wing and chassis from my SuperAstute #1 so the sides of the wing will change later, but the overall layout.. Pretty clean, right? Basically same scheme without the wild pattern. Looking slick Willy I think a matt clear coat, leaving the windows gloss, would set it all off perfectly! I'm liking the same decal placement as box art for the ones you've chosen to use.

I wanted something like a HotShot hood ornament decal in silver, but could not find one in my decal bin. If this was a military theme, a big white star on the hood could look good. I need to let it all sink in as I'm not getting any more messages from the car at the moment.. and the reason for the gloss black is it reflects its surroundings well making those reflections into sort of a pattern of its own, if that makes sense. In this sense I want the minimal decals just enough to identify the car. @Busdriver Fun builds are great as casual building is very relaxing.
bavee 1032 Posted May 27, 2022 Went out for a drive with the 5yo and one of the kids from the neighbourhood. Left to right we have my son's GF-01 with a Nikko body, a TL-01Ra Stadium Raider I bought cheap last week and a TT-01E Porsche 911 GT3 Cup VIP 2007 my neighbour received as a gift from his uncle recently. His dad let me buy some parts to get it running and it is doing fine now. Hope it stays that way... Was good to spend an afternoon like this!
Willy iine 18805 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) Thanks again to @Jonathon Gillham Going to run 48 pitch on SuperAstute #2. Took a quick break.. Final Update for today.. Bench test passed.. It just needs black wheels.. I might paint the white ones for the time being… Edited May 27, 2022 by Willy iine
Nikko85 3453 Posted May 27, 2022 Today I came very close to finishing this, my GF01 to mini monster truck conversion. I moved the shocks to the upper suspension arms and now they are almost vertical, much more like an old school clod. Was a little tricky magicing shock mountd from no where. Hopefully it will actually work. Being vertical the shocks are softer but with less travel as there is no longer the lever effect. The red shock is just wrapped in vinyl, works perfectly.
Robert5000 928 Posted May 27, 2022 In my head alternating between copper and gold didn’t look exactly like this, but maybe not too far off either. I’ve got another clear shell so might give it another go at a later date. And yeah, I know -my masking leaves a lot to be desired 😄

Today I was messing around with my Mad Van homage build and before I knew it I was trying the shell on other chassis and playing with different rim and tyre combos. In short; I’m now looking for another jumbo van body so that I can have one of these. Oops! I like this a lot! Stick diffs add a 13T pinion, would make a great trail truck.... but IMHO the Mad Van would be more fun. Saying that I may have to look for one myself now. Just a thought...if rolling is an issue on the above the TL01 / Gf01 arms work perfectly on the MF01x to widen.

GeeWings 2830 Posted May 28, 2022 Finished the GF01 build for my Tandy Jumbo Van shell. Still need to work out how to fix the shell to the chassis but think I’ve cracked it. That’s a job to try and finish over the weekend. The best part is that the boot opens so I can get to the on off switch. Might also extend the battery lead so I can charge it without removing It.

Car broke down within a week... The GF-01's FJ40 body he got for his fifth birthday was trashed within 20 minutes so I had to do something... My conversion is not as good as yours are ;). But it does the job. And he is happy with it!

Robert5000 928 Posted May 28, 2022 Cheers! @moffman Yup, I did alternating layers of copper and gold. Never tried using two different colours before, and have never used copper nor gold so can’t really say if it made a difference or if I might as well could’ve used just copper.
