Is my Monster Beetle traversing a prairie? Looks like it. No, this is a actually the ballfield at my daughter's school. Rumor is, a kid playing second base got lost out here. I guess my tax dollars aren't being wasted on maintaining it at least, lol.

Great photo. Has a lovely vintage summer feel about it.

Lovely M chassis collection.

Thanks mate 😁

What thickness of lining tape do you use?

0.4 on the m chassis stuff, although when I built the escort I didn't have any, so that car has 0.7. I also bought 1.0, 1.5 and I think 2.0mm stuff.

Today I painted the Sierra body. Every polycarbonate body I do, I rub dish soap into every crevice of the body with my fingers and rinse with warm water. Never had an issue. This body started getting fish eyes in the paint, but letting it gas out, and some more light coats, plus the silver and black backing... I seem to have gotten away with it.

Also did a 1/24 jconcepts body. Did a messy job of that, but I am considerin shooting it with flat clear, and weathering it on the outside anyway.

Also wetsanded my 1:1 baked beans headlights, as they had yellowed and it's due for an inspection next month.

Thanks! I do often mess about with the pics I take (I wish they were better, but driving and shooting is tricky, lol). I'm always going for the old Kodak Instamatic/110 vibe of my youth when these cars were new. Kind of a golden summer feel of my youth that the photos from back then display.

So today I am going to work on adding a seat back for Billy in his Sandscorcher.  B)

Hadn’t seen this chassis in a while. I run a homemade humpback NiMH in this car.   Which I will also run in the Fighting Buggy given it fits..

Today, I decided to work on the M05 bodyshell paintjob...
Very simple this time. I did not have red, I did not want white, I opted for some blue... Maybe too much Subaru, but that's ok :)
TregAk9.jpg

I also tackled the "lights"... But decided I would try something with hot glue as light duct...

And here is the parts after the paintjob

Next stickers and led installation... not sure when : the car won't be ready for tomorrow's indoor session, so I will be running mainly the Fantom EP4WD tomorrow...

These look like a simple job until you do them. I did mine in dark blue but the stickers are tough. A lot of compound curves. Hairdryer, water & washing up liquid!!!

Putting finishing touches on the driver.  My skills are hit and miss but I’m pretty happy with this.  Adding some gray wash to the headsock for some shadow and texture.

Today ive gotten most of the work on the body for my Blitzed DT03 done:

PaintWIPrear.jpg.c9a6f9fd136e86bf395ad0e338f86725.jpg

Here are the references i decided to go off:

ref.thumb.jpg.e012d06f599787c3428c803161559733.jpg

There is some some cleanup required, rear lights, possibly a cross on each side, black lines around the windows, mirrors as well as installing the windows and headlights.

Im still undecided on the driver, the body will obviously be the standard one but the head, im thinking a ww2 style luftwaffe flying helmet but not sure yet.

I way also paint the rims and do up some hubcaps.

Really pleased with the progress today :)

Hot glue working as light duct is perfect. Could have done a better placement of the led. Will ajust this for next time...

And I still dont like stickers, but here I wanted it close to the car we see in the street. But I'm happy with the result :)

Well, I had this ready... It took a while to get it done... I definitely don't like stickers. I could have done this in paint and that would probably have been a better idea (slihouette studio, a scan on the masking sheet and a scan of the decal sheet and it is quite easy to derive what you need for the windows surrounds... and even for the rear side... this would have been probably easier. For the paint, I used PS16, backed PS4, and then I applied PS5. I could have done much more, actually, but that would have required me to work out the decal sheet in more details in Silhouette Studio... And if I did not procrastinate for stickers, I would have it ready for today's indoor session...

I’m starting to think the good handpainters are using high high quality brushes that don’t have bristles that go haywire or splinter off.  I need to look into higher quality brushes which I think will allow tighter painting.

So after days off filled with non RC activities I managed to take advantage of an early Spring day in Melbourne yesterday.

I started by putting 8 batteries through the Proboat Recoil 2 (as well as some light sailing using one of the club's spare sailboats):

boat.thumb.jpeg.f31c953537ebc0bab0e553b3778f5e5c.jpeg

When I got home I did some gardening, walked the dogs, had lunch and then declared that I was off to drive the Baja for the first time in a month or so. I checked that it started, packed everything up and then drove ~ 5 minutes to my spot (away from houses and ears) that I run it... only to realise the receiver pack had been left on and was completely flat! I drove home, and put it on charge. After an hour (and more housework) I checked the battery - still hadn't charged. I put on 2 LiPos so I could run my UDR, then after another 30 minutes checked on the Baja - still charging? So, I took the receiver battery out of the Baja (which is a PITA), it was completely cold (indicating it hadn't charged at all) and put it on charge with one of my good chargers. While leaving that charging I went to drive the UDR with 2 freshly charged LiPos (and yes, my wife was keeping an eye on the batteries charging while she watched the football) and the UDR went into LVC after about a minute! I think those packs are on the way out, so I've made notes on them (with masking tape and a sharpie) that I won't use them in more 'demanding' applications. The Baja battery was now fully charged, and off I headed to enjoy 26cc of noise and drama!

baja.thumb.jpeg.ca157d8b08f688efcfc8b96e68f37c26.jpeg

...and after about 30 minutes it started making sputtering, and the entire rear axle has seized. Bother. I'll try and find out why later this week, but when I got home I thought I'd have some nice, peaceful crawling with the Kyosho, and after 45 minutes I went home and called it a day.

I found out my track is far to narrow for a Blackfoot to do anything more than an oval , it’s a good thing I have some other cars to run. Worked on the hopper a bit, did some trimming on the frame so the arms could move a bit more freely, also changed out the upper arms so they’d be adjustable and have some of that tamiya blue goodness that makes it faster .  Just need to find or buy some shocks and it’ll be back to the speed runs, assuming I find the other front wheel w/upright still attached, no idea where that is atm.

I just sold my Proboat Jetboat - eBay fees are getting slightly out of hand, but the trade-off is it's a lot easier than dealing with idiots on Facebook or Gumtree. Plus, if you price it 15% higher on eBay, you cover the fees anyway.

Not today but actually from our last Friday Night vintage RC run... We've made some 1985 duel here as the orig Hornet faced the orig Turbo Scorpion. My car was the Hornet, obviously ;) Too bad I did not finish the lamps although I've have had the orig decals in my possession for over one year, maybe two :(  Anyway, here's some random pictures. We had fun, yeah.

Mrs J went out for a few hours this morning so I was free to make all the horrible noise I wanted....sanding time!

spacer.png

  • Audi R8: the shell was mostly done already, so this one just needed the wheel arches finishing using the trusty old can of Spray Mount wrapped in sand paper
  • R390: full cut out and sand finish
  • 934 RSR: full cut out and sand finish
  • 190e: full cut out and sand finish
  • Alfa 155: final trim and sand finish

They were mostly pretty straightforward. The 190e doesn't really have clear cut lines, more a pronounced seam which isn't that easy to follow, and the side sills are curved not straight which made it a bit awkward

The worst was the Alfa, it's just so thin! Like, L&L Models bad 🫤 My usual method of using sanding fingers and blocks to finish the straight lines didn't really work, in places it was like trying to sand a polythene bag! No rigidity at all

I could criticise Tamiya for making the Alfa shell horribly thin, but I prefer to commend them for their commitment to scale reality...it's the worst Tamiya shell I've worked on since the Giulia Sprint, so it must be a conscious attempt by Tamiya to make 1:10 Alfa shells as tin-thin and weak as real life Alfas 😂

Making 2 more seat backs today for my other comical SandScorcher based Billy’s Bugs.

IMG_2022-8-29-090101.jpg.40e45bd98546f136af2771c3b5fc850d.jpg

Update.. going to hit these with some color in a bit..  I’m thinking sand since the exterior is olive drab/battleship red theme.

IMG_2022-8-29-135613.jpg.056edb31350edc16527dcb7545e230d5.jpg

Update.. painted the seatback TS sand.. only to find a crack around one of the curves as I used fast drying cement to wrap the side..

Puttied and re-sprayed so will need to allow paint to dry another 2 hours before I can mask to do the black.. probably won't be able to finish today due to the set-back, but there's absolutely no rush so I'm okay with it.  I rather do the job properly than live with a stinky crack..

IMG_2022-8-29-162930.jpg.5468929b6249001628fc8fb5b880d2da.jpg

I have small fan lightly blowing at it and the lacquer smell has decreased significantly in the last 30min so I might be able to get the black painted yet tonight..

Update.. so the fan did drastically improve dry time and since matte finish, not as critical with masking tape.. so masked and sprayed the black.

I really need to get my act together today.. so sloppy.  lol    Will clean these areas before fitment.

IMG_2022-8-29-173310.jpg.c1e30460fc62f4cd91be90f509ef407b.jpg

Update.. fixed the sloppy.. will let these dry and will fit them in probably tomorrow.  :D  Should look pretty good when installed..

My guess is that you are right.  I've heard that good brushes make a world of difference... but I haven't been able to bring myself to buy any yet.
