Willy iine 18805 Posted September 19, 2022 (edited) Continuing on with my useless garbage disposal output of a contribution to the site, I managed to assemble the overall shape of the rack.. Pretty even, per my high precision EWHS alignment equipment.. aka Eyeballed With Hope System. Hahaha So the next step is where my main issue lies.. wish me hope.. .. The base and main top hump section is basically shaped.. it was a challenge as I want to make this thing as light as possible and that meant using the thinnest plasticard. It is very light. Nikko85 3453 Posted September 19, 2022 I've done more on the 3D designing side making mounting posts, bears, battery covers etc. I can't print anything till at least tomorrow, but I've got a busy week of work, so might have to leave it till next week. It's a nice way to do a little bit of the hobby whilst not making a mess. I am also trying to design an MF01x spacer, so the car can have more flexibility in the lengths. With zero spacers the car is 171 mm wheelbase but the smallest spacer is 15 mm so you are stuck with 171 mm or 186 mm. If I could make one around 10 mm or so then you'd get a wheelbase that would be perfect for the 1/14 Taiyo and Tamiya QD range. I could make it modular, so anyone could use the design to feasibly print any length they wanted, making an already flexible chassis even more flexible.
Ferruz 11702 Posted September 19, 2022 Went out for a pretty amphibious run with the monster truck. Did some fun creek crawling and other "wet" stuff. Once back, both me and the truck were soaking!

The lexan, particularly around the front and rear bumpers / splitters is ridiculously thin but fortunately stayed free of cracks after cutting and sanding. Im not surprised there arent many of these shells left if they been run more than a few times asi think just running over a few small stones would ruin them. I see 911 and R34. What is the car on the very left?

GeeWings 2830 Posted September 20, 2022 @Nikko85 Great idea with the MF01x spacers mate. Good luck with the designs! @Willy iine looking good as usual!

Large wheel arches and many louvers on the hood threw me off. Was thinking an older Ferrari 250GTO or something.

Found the bits and put it back together but seems a bit of a weak to me! having said that, I find this car flips a lot in corners so it’s probably my driving (again). I know these are not very popular but I like these instead of the straight axle and grub screw for this application. Screw in from above and they can't fall out
berman 5315 Posted September 20, 2022 Finished the DJR Sierra. Customer was very happy with it. My LHS owner liked the Sierra so much he commissioned me to paint this 6R4. I'm not hugely ecstatic about doing it but can't say no to him as he has done me many many favours. Also got a free DT03 from him, he had two used ones, so gave me one. Wonder what i can do with this? 🤔

Got the same ControlFreax version only last week with the Belga decals. Are you sticking with that livery or doing something different?

Busdriver 6209 Posted September 20, 2022 25 minutes ago, berman said: Is that yours? Didn't see the stripes, I'd assumed I was painting them 😬 Yes it’s mine. When I bought mine L&L only did the blue and white livery. I found the Belga set on the bay! The stripes were included and actually contoured pretty well with a little warm persuasion. I think there maybe a couple of stickers in the L&L set that aren’t in mine but I’m quite happy with the outcome. The only downside to the shell is the front plough especially if you are going to use it as a rally car. It’s very low and if you try and cut it back too much I think it would look wrong!
Busdriver 6209 Posted September 20, 2022 Well last couple of days anyway Picked this up off the bay. Paid a little over the odds but always loved this body. When it turned up , well packaged etc, I realised it was maybe a bit of a mix and match even though it had the original box. The body posts were cut really short so the body would never have worked with them. I had a set of rears just waiting for some fronts, the foam bumper did not fit under the body and the wheels are the same as the Porsche VIP cup racer but in black. They also have Ansmann tyres glued on that have hardly been used. It did however come with electrics but again a bit of a mismatch. The esc and servo seem fine though the rx is 2.4Ghz and the tx is 40mhz so useless together. Not really bothered as was planning to put flysky in. It also came with a black sports tuned motor?? Now whether that’s a real one or a China fake, well who knows. I stripped the chassis down, cleaned out the orange sticky gunge in the diffs and re built with bearings. It had a a price of rubber cut to form a washer in place of P3 in the front diff area. I used a brass bush suitably thinned and buttoned it all back together. That’s where I’ve got to so far.

Amazing, I don't suppose there's any way you could send that file please? Either the 257 mm, or even better a 10 mm extension, but that does feel like cheating! I was planning to print it as one object, or let the chassis halves hold together. If it's not a big file perhaps you could email it to me, if I give you a PM? (1:1 scale would be a cool project to ) Thanks, not sure if you know, but there are 3 different Tamiya Mini bodies that I know of. The one in the picture is the last one that Tamiya originally released with the M03 and used on M05's. There is a standard M01 body with plastic bumpers and mirrors, then the M01 Monte Carlo with same polycarbonate body plus the livery and lamps as well. So when you decide, it's good to choose the one you want. The M01 body can take a bit of work to fit onto a M05 as the shape is a bit different, but do-able. M01's also ran shorter sidewall tires.. the sidewalls you see on my pictures above (those are PitShimizu tires). Anyway, hope this helps.. !
Mark_McQ 453 Posted September 20, 2022 Painted one of my resin wheels to see how they looked. Basecoat of Mercedes Silver and then some Tamiya Gunmetal.
Willy iine 18805 Posted September 20, 2022 The roof box will look something like this.. will add clamps and stuff to decorate a bit more before sanding and paint. Wish me hope..
Nikko85 3453 Posted September 20, 2022 @Honza very kindly sent over a stl file for the MF01x spacer. With a cut and shut job I was able to make a 10 mm spacer for my MF01x. This now allows the MF01x to be 181 mm wheelbase (or any of the other wheelbases minus 5 mm, as you can replace the 15 mm spacer with 10 mm one). Once I've tested I'll put up somewhere if anyone is interested. Thanks again @Honza
naturbo2000 1272 Posted September 20, 2022 I started building. The propshaft is the only non-kit bling in the build. Surprisingly loose fitting with the single provided o-ring in the front cup. May see what happens if I also add an o-ring to the rear cup Front diff built with anti-wear grease and the rear stock. Be interesting how they feel after a couple of runs.
Willy iine 18805 Posted September 21, 2022 I had to go to the office again to do my money making gig so did not have much time to work on the roof box today.. however, I think I am satisfied how it looks and will give it some color tomorrow. It might be hard to visualize while off the car..
