@berman That really sucks.  But I do remember reading about the nose section cracking off the rest of the chassis on the DT03's..even with just moderate impact.. (?).

I think dampers/shocks are made to be installed the way it should as designed. Oil/air pushing the piston rod and dampening downward. Although it may also work the other way around, I still wouldn't.. As a graduate of aerospace engineering (batch '96), I've also worked on and did a few designs of aircraft suspension system back in college. The force and impact these dampers and shocks have to suppress is very impressive. The springs are just to help raise the dampers up but the load and smoothness of rebound lies in the dampers itself. So for better performance, use it the way it should be used. Altering the science and technology behind it is experimental but not proven to be better than the original purpose.

Driving experience, I think they are much better and give more realism to the movement than the previous shocks (4 types including the stock CVA) I used for this chassis.

Thanks for your insight on the dampers.

Good to hear about your aerospace background. I used to work for Fokker Aircraft in the '90s.

Decided to do some alterations to my optima body and totally ruined it took the decals off and exces glue used what I thought was a mild cleaner and it basically melted the body (went rock hard then just cracked:o) so ordered a new body set and just did it box art and I'm leaving it alone!

Sorry if I missed it, but is that a TT-01 chassis under the frame?   Is the frame for demolition derby style racing?   Looks great and I have so many questions… 😂

Stripped my DT03. Will wait for the new chassis parts to arrive. Pretty much broke the whole front chassis off (was hanging on by a corner), I see how this is a common occurrence and easy to do.

Hi @berman can you share the cause of the chassis crack?   There are a few NIB kits at a  good price and was thinking of getting one. Can this area be reinforced?

Thanks for sharing.  Looks like fun and not a worry if the body gets dinged. The exo skeleton, where do you get one?

Today, I finished my 1:24 scale Lancia 037 RC car project:

Some details on the project here, which was more of a model build:

I am also in the process of designing a circuit layout for Round 29 of the Racing by Post series :)

Some mock-up on the Juggernaut.

What I really want is a longer dual-cabine and shorter bed, so 'liberated' some cardboard from my wife's crafts hobby to get a feel for the dimensions. Looks like shifting 1 inch from the bed to the cabin will give the right proportions.

Also tested the paint killer, to check if the blue can be changed. It comes off very easily.

Driveshafts changed on the DT03. The plastic kit parts really do leave a mark. I guess it proves their strength.

Had a painting disaster. Fine tape I used was crap and let paint get underneath.

Had a painting success with this sugar skull I printed. painted it in Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf.

@Nikko85  That looks good.  The wheel base on these comicals are pretty much eyeball okay at best so nothing to worry about there.  If the arches to wheel alignment bothers you, I would lift the body some and maybe give it some rake (lower front body positioning).  Usually helps tame it down, I think.

GL with your body mounts!

Thanks. I'll take some proper photos this evening but it looks good, and at 1/12 fits the JP Jeep really nicely.

I think a CW01 would work nicely as a third in this scale collection.

Going to install the electronics today.. Very nice packaging on the motor. wow..

IMG_2022-11-6-075936.jpg.300623d973841e1c57d945f89a63f5ad.jpg

Update.. got the electronics mounted onto the chassis, now soldering the leads to the BL..

I marked the leads as I am not very good with distinguishing black wires with other black wires..

IMG_2022-11-6-090007.jpg.ee654430d150310ba31f803215c1d83a.jpg

Update.. easy peasy.   Now programming the ESC and bench test.  B)

IMG_2022-11-6-093853.jpg.fae0d55ffce2a4c4da49a67fbaeb5412.jpg

Update.. finished the car.  I will post pictures in the gallery-only thread soon.  If you have instagram I will be posting a lot more pictures over there (I am running out of photo memory here at TC.. )

I am running an XR10 with 15.5 LeMans 240 BL motor with the kit 25teeth pinion.  It's only noticeably faster than my 35 teeth LeMans 490 brushed setup, so this was a nice surprise.  My space is small so I can't really run rocket motors.  :D  haha.   The ESC is set up to run 20% drag brake to simulate the drag on brushed motors, 75% braking, 25% reverse.  The LeMans 240 runs very smoothly which was a very nice and welcome surprise.   With the battery on the aft setup the car would not turn-in as I wanted to switched to the forward battery location.  With the drag brake it drives as naturally as my first Optima MID.

Absolutely love these cars.
