Today I painted up a runner shell for my TT-02B Pink Metallic Special.

2022-11-21_03-58-53

2022-11-21_03-57-17

The chassis is a great performer with a 13.5t motor and a fair few hop-ups, but I have been reluctant to really give it the beans due to the limited edition shell. With a standard shell painted with leftover paint, no fancy stickers and window decals cut from leftover vinyl, I will feel a lot more comfortable pushing its limits.

Painting finished on the Astute 2022 shell. The red hasn’t come out quite as dark as I thought it would but it’s a nice deep colour.

I also got the replacement shell on the Dark Impact painted. My first attempt was a pearlescent go which I thought turned out on but my wife found so objectionable she kept asking me to redo it. Going box art on this one.

Today I had the first go on snow with the Thunder Dragon. It was -2C with dry and light snow, so perfect to do long 4wd drifts. I'm impressed with how good the Thunder Dragon has turned out on loose surface and now on snow. It is so predictible and it behaves pretty much like I'm used to with my Audi 80 quattro on ice tracks. But the Thunder Dragon has like 1200 HP when compared to scale.

It stopped raining for just a few hours today so I could get some paint on the TD2. I didn’t get the backing finished before it started again so hopefully it’ll be dry during the week.

@ImALlama If you don’t mind a quick question. I’ve been looking at an on road runner for my next buy and I think it’s between the TA08 and TC01. Which would you recommend of the two?

I haven't been able to run either yet thanks to being to lazy to solder stuff till now, and now the weather, but from building I’d say TA08 if your a regular person. Newer and probably better parts support, spares will probably be more available and for a longer amount of time. Waaaayyyyy easier to work on, especially when it comes to changing electronics. Everything I’ve read makes it seem like it’s a much better performing chassis as well.

However if your anything like me and you don’t care about it being the latest greatest best most capable chassis etc whatever, and have no problem dissembling basically the whole car just to change a pinion or something, get the TC01. I like it cause it’s different, and different is extremely appealing to me, also figured since I was buying a bunch of f1s at the time I should get the formula e car too . I’ll be buying a second Tc01 soon, Only way I’d buy another TA08 is if I destroy mine to the point a new one would be a cheaper than repairing.

So if your gonna run and maintain all the time TA08, don’t care and prefer something more unique TC01. Hope this helps, sorry if it doesn’t. Or just go with the only correct answer, get both :D

It looks fantastic and watching it whizz around the sand was fun but I winced when that lovely finished body took a role at the end , eek!

The beauty of lexan bodies. Wipe off the dust and keep going!

That's why I decided to keep the hardbody it came with in the box and get a lexan body. I fully intend to run this truck and accidents happen!

You had to take the wheel off to change the battery?! yikes. My mother in law had a Smart Ka and the battery was in the passenger footwell but because of its shape and size you had to take the dashboard panel off to get the battery out. :P

Yup, it is, we didn’t do it when it was warm out so that came back to bite us then.  Funny thing though, the car has a few mods done to it like bigger front brakes, wider, grippier tires, upgraded lower intake manifold (more airflow), MSD Coil Packs, and a intake tube that got rid of the resonators in the intake track, plus it burns E85 on the factory tune……..well, Dad and I went out for dinner after we finished working on it and while driving it home, the car was a bit cold from burning E85 in 20*f weather and we were kinda cold inside, so I got on it a bit aggressively pulling from a traffic light, only to have it light the front tires up from 20mph with out a bit of hesitation from the car. Shocked the heck outta both of us when it did that too!

A few years back I built a custom Lunchbox to go with my Blue Edition, but I was offered silly money for the pair of them and I needed the money elsewhere so they reluctantly went.

Well I’ve always wanted to build another but the stock gearbox casing annoyed me. A chance post by JK RC on Facebook landed me a Hornet Watanabe B parts sprue. That kicked off the drive to find a white chassis which proved rather difficult…

But today, these chassis landed on my doorstep :)

So now I’m hunting for more hopup parts for my Christmas Tamiya build.

Slow day for me, I'm off today and rest of week as we celebrate Thanksgiving week in the USA.  I was going to waterless wash my 1:1 WRX today, but decided to take the lazy route of not washing the car today.  haha  ..

Since I finished the Turbo Optima yesterday, going to take a break for a week or so from RC until my Egress black arrives.  Egress would be my next build followed by the Kyosho Beetle end of year which ends my vintage buggy series.

2023 will start with the 420X, Fantom 4WD pancar, street version SandScorcher, then the rally cars in time for Spring.. where I seasonally switch hobbies to 1:1 car.. and will work on expanding the pretend RC shop during the summer.

So today I've been searching online for a fancy garage basin to make for Willy's shop.  I think I found a picture of what I want mine to look like.  :D   Will start after lunch.. wish me hope..

Update.. so after lunch I got back to my RC work desk and quickly realized I still had to organize and put away my Turbo Optima spare parts, replace the plastic pads on my pliers (ordered more pads), then order Beetle CF bits, custom alloy wheels, etc etc.. and make a stand for my Turbo Optima which I have not started yet.   So Willy's sink might get pushed out to tomorrow which is fine.

Update.. got the stand made. :D   Now I can start Willy’s garage basin..

Thanks for the answer! I do like the look and low profile of the TC01. I think I’ll go for that… at least at first… 😁

My postman decided to reschedule todays delivery of rc stuff for whenever they feel like dropping it off I guess, so I decided to go to the hobby shops. I’m fortunate enough to have 7 different ones that I know of within a 30min drive, one is only traxxas though so not sure if it counts . I was surprised to to find that they all had some tamiya kits on the shelves. Normally it’s only paint and maybe some models, one had a tt02 kit that’s been collecting dust for the past year or two, but now they all had at least 7-8 kits and a few body sets. So naturally I had to do my part to help return things to normal and I now have this...

Today I fitted Hot Racing front knuckles to my Bruiser after breaking one (again) while crawling. 1st was a Tamiya, then an HG-P407 one.

The quality is really good, and they have more meat on them where the linkage plate fits on (where mine failed). Hopefully these wont fail!

I also gave the Schumaccer CAT shocks on it a clean and fresh dose of oil, and swapped the 80x2 motor back to stock. It was just TOOO slow!! Going to get a 35 or 40 turn one.

Again,  no pictures :(

@Re-Bugged that looks amazing. My wife agreed, and when I mentioned that I had invited you to come stay she laughed and said of course I had.

Ordered some Durga bits, Plaza Japan is so cheap. Gear diffs, reinforced belts (no idea, but they're cheap) and the rear hexes. Unfortunately the front were out of stock, so spent more on the front hexes from TTP than a gear diff cost! Anyway, this Durga is going to be the best shelfer that can hit the track there is! Its closing in on RR now

Cheers bud 👍🏻
It’ll be while before I can get there, I’ve got my mum’s 80th in the UK in April booked in, I haven’t told her I’m coming yet and it’s been 5 years since I saw my folks last. I’m flying Singapore this time so no stop in Auckland 😕. I’m still hanging out for that Charcoal Barbecue though 😃
