Just a work in progress shot, body propped up on the tyre :D. Once I've sorted all the steering links I can fix body position and then finish off with sticker. One day...

WT-01 chassis?   Love the 4WS 👍

Anyway - Mid looks cracking. Look forward to seeing the finished article. I am thinking I will go box art with mine too. I do also have a cheap aftermarket runner shell I'll do something different with though. Will you fit an undertray?

Another shell for different colour options, as well as to use as a runner, is always good to have for sure. Although part of me sort of struggles with the idea of a chassis-less body: I did that with my Hornet, fancy shell for the shelf and the kit one for running, that was the idea but I suspect that my perception of the deal has changed in time! I now have my Hornet sitting on the livingroom shelf with its battered original body on, while the fancy pants one is just hanging on the wall in another room, clearly waiting for a chassis to pop up someday 😅

Anyway, good point mentioning the undertay, since I pretty much forgot about it once I started the build. I do have the short one from TBG. It's a nice snug fit with both the chassis and the body shell, which is great, but unfortunately it doesn't cover the front and end of the chassis, which annoys me quite a bit. At least it will do a great job protecting the essentials (electronics, battery..) and for the parts still exposed I think I will apply an industrial film I often use for work. Picture a sticker, but fully transparent and comes in glossy or mat finish. Thickness would be enough to protect the chassis from light scratches.

What I'm not sure of, is whether to paint the undertray or not. While I'm not a fan of unpainted wings, for some reason I tend to imagine an undertray just being transparent 🤔 no big deal, I'll see.

Will you fit one in your Mid?

Ended up taking my other EVO AWD apart too to add preload to the servo saver using suspension limiter collars.   I think this is a necessary mod to get the car to track straight after a turn.   With a 8500kv motor, there is really no margin for steering related issues.

Car drives very well after this mod.  B)

Today I acquired one of my holy grails. A Super Hornet!

This one, I do believe, was very much enjoyed by it's previous owner... But it's not too bad! Some cleaning and some shining and I think she'll look great again!

MNtzjzn.jpg

It has a little bit of damage to the body, particularly back where the wing and body meet, but nothing too bad. It's also missing the headlights but I have those on order. I also have a spare of one of the driver figures so that'll be finding a home here.

It still has the old MSC installed as well.

RWXpcGI.jpg

I connected it up to my old Airtronics MX-3, probably my favorite radio of all time, and everything works great! The throttle servo took some trimming and the motor is old and worn out and squealing up a storm but I think some dry lube will do away with that.

I want to keep the MSC but part of me also wants to install this thing I've had laying around for 20 years. I believe it's period-correct, or maybe even a little earlier than the car!

Either way, this is going to be a fun little project! Not a bad pull for $125!

Maybe leaving it clear to be able to quickly visually inspect for stones/debris/noises without have to remove anything else as it’s a runner?

@Ferruz. I'm with Re-Bugged regarding not painting the undertray. The paint will also chip when using pressurized air. I see that on the painted tub cover of my Thunder Dragon. When driven on gravel or dirt the outside will be matte soon, so painted or not does not matter.

My yellow MID runs a clear under tray as it runs CF decks.  My black has no under tray as I don’t foresee any harsh driving with that one (also CF deck)

But on my white MID with the lower aluminum chassis, honestly some scratches are fine imho.. (?)  Those are a lot more durable against wear, I think.

I bought a repro shell with wing and undertray from Kamtec. It looks pretty basic. I expect to run that. Probably clear undertray. Will be interesting to see whether it fits nicely under the proper Kyosho shell and is effective.

Good point about what it does and doesn't protect. It won't come forward to between the front wheels so won't help with a lot of ground strikes there, but the esc will also be vulnerable and it'll enclose that and keep the bottom chassis plate nice.

I also bought the YR carbon bits, so I'll fit all the other parts of that but the jury's out on aluminium vs carbon bottom deck.

For a large flat section I think stick on protection (vinyl?) can be good. My B64 has this. I hadn't thought of it on the mid though.

It is an M03 . It has WT-01 arms though.

I think I'm going to need to limit the rear steer to stop the wheels touching!

those do look awesome. Not quite sure about the 1/50th scale? I remember doing some maths and the Heavy Dump was actually only 1/40 size, these things are giant. These are much better on a desk however!

Cool.  It would be interesting to see how you weld the pieces together.  GL!!

I was looking into low temperature soldering....
And it will probably end up being JB weld as is is a show roll cage only, no structural forces required.

For me another stupid day at the office for my money making gig.  If it wasn't for the stay interview today with HR, I would WFH..but at least I am off tomorrow.  :D

I am just going to be blunt and be honest about the crap I have to deal with at work.  It's a great elite company to work for, but the team mates I have been assigned to are lacking.  I understand a huge company like that needs to meet a certain quota on hiring local stupid people, but man.. I guess I am one of them. lol

Going to get a few rounds in with my Mini-Z before heading to the office.

Good idea. Works for me, since the body shell came out right this means I officially won't need any further paint cans for this build ;) keep it simple for once, I like that ✌

Awesome mate, that is a very, very similar to the G2 purchase I made a little over a year ago. Restored it for my son, as he was only 4 at the time. See the thread for how I fix the A pillars🙂

Installed the one way today.  It works as it should, but in real life made really no difference in the driving response.. in fact maybe worse as it pushes under coming out of turn a bit more. lol.

Instead of spending money on this mod, I recommend spending $0 and mod the preload on the servo saver and just drive stock.  B)

Still looks good though, even if does get out of shape on the track 😉.

I keep looking at the Tamiya 1/10 version of this and imagining it on a XV01, also thought about the Custom Escort,  (the white Cozzie lookalike thing but with a nice paint job 🤔)

It’s going to be while before I add anymore to the collection now though.
