Finished the rebuild of a Duratrax Evader BX buggy, now that a spur gear finally got through the UK mail system without being lost or chewed up - ran well with new motor brushes, then broke a brush spring which put an end to the fun.

Got the TG-10 electric Lancia out for a maiden run - hells bells its quick with the 9T EZRun, so quick it ejected the propshaft, which did highlight the rear ball diff needs tightening a fraction - found the propshaft so no more drama there <_<

Missed bidding on a load of stuff on evilbay - no bad thing given my spree of late !

I just bought what i think will be my last Tamiya, a vintage Rough Rider

I just don't have the space , or the understanding partner , to buy any more. I've covered vintage to modern, monster truck to on-roads, basic to complex buggies,2wd and 4wd buggies, restorations to conversions - overall not a bad run in under 10 months.

Still plenty to finish off..

Grasshopper 2 to rebuild

Fighter Buggy RX restoration to complete

Two part Falcons to build into one, with new shell

QD Buggy to rebuild as brushless

Vanquish shell to purchase and paint/decal

911 GT1 to paint/decal

Durga to strip, clean, rebuild, repaint and then use

TB-01 Raybrig to try out !

and the Rough rider to strip, clean and restore

Enough to keep me quiet for a while i think!

bought my first plane today and flew it, what a fun time.

hobbyzone champ, $85.00 usd ready to fly.

i had a gift car so it only cost me 50 out of pocket.

i flew for over an hour, it's tough, i crashed plenty. so eay to fly, helps build confidence to eventually move up to more advanced planes.

i also took my two racers ( b4 & rc8be) to the track for some tuning, but the track was too dry so i flew instead.

I decided to take a swing at one of my Wild Daggers (aka Wild Scalpel); I always felt the Dagger to be overweight and the chassis is not really up to any more power, so I wanted to take a different route. Having a couple of LRP 380s (high torque version) with adjustable timing left over from a boat project, I made a couple of adaptor sets (16mm mounting washers and 2.3mm -> 3,2mm shaft tubings).

rc_juli2_2011002.jpg

It looked kind of promising. The smaller 380 motor cans didn't stick out nearly som much as the 540, weight gone considerably down, and now only one TEU104 was needed for both motors. Using a lightweight 2200mAh LiPo battery further reduced mass, so I was quite exited about the project.

rc_juli2_2011003.jpg

The Dagger took off with amazing gusto and accelerated wildly through the living room and was hardly stoppable (TEU104 has only 50% braking). After a few runs it became evident that the gearing was way too high despite using the lower 18T pinion option on the Dagger. The motors also felt alarmingly hot. Hmmmm.... What to do??

Reduce gearing by mounting smaller wheels and transform the Wild Dagger into a Wild Low Rider:

rc_juli2_2011001.jpg

The Wild Low Rider runs pretty well and the chassis balance isn't at all bad. But the gearing is still a bit to high. I think the LRP high torque motors are not so high torque after all. I'm looking into getting a set of 8,4v Mabuchi 380s to see how they perform. Or crawler 380s, perhaps. Any low-cost bi-directional suggestions?

Also, I want to go back to a off-road / light crawler wheel set-up. The only rims at hand with sufficient off-set are my Thunder Blitz (Boy's racer) and Stadium Blitzer, the latter not in two identical pairs as the SB is RWD. The Boy's racers rims are smaller than normal, so what off-road tire options are available here? Are the Mad Fighter Buggy rear wheels a bit smaller than the normal 2.2?

So, what have you done today?

Just bought a vintage grasshopper complete with Futaba Attack radio and hump pack/charger as well as a Falcon in great condition but unassembled. Hope to work on the Falcon tonight. F and R parts look brand new.

Well it was last week, but i was on hols so i suppose it qualifies..

ran Blitzer Beetle and modded King blackfoot on the beach - going well til i ventured into a few wetter sections where the tide had gone out (ripples with retained sea water)

one pool of water was a bit deeper than i expected, about 4 inches deeper to be exact, hence killed both cars dead on the spot.

Good news is the Beetle seems to be OK again after tap water rinse and dry out (thank goodness for mtroniks waterproof ESCs)

KBF goinf to take a bit more investigation - ESC is fine (mtroniks again) but think the RX is goosed.

Forgot to take a couple of balloons so thought i'd risk it ! Thankfully the receivers are hobbyking £4 each !!

My local hobby shop is closing down end of this month, everything at supposedly trade prices so thought i'd clear some stock for them on my way home from work..

2 cans FastFinish Chameleon paint for polycarb

1 can FastFinish Chrome paint for polycarb

5 cans FastFinish spray paint for polycarb (various colours)

1 can Tamiya TS38 GunMetal (needed to touch up Blitzer Beetle shell)

3 cans Tamiya PS paint (red, light blue, silver)

3 packs of body clips

1 pair Schumacher rear hard foams for buggy 2.2 rims

2 pairs Schumacher front hard foams for buggy 2.2 rims (narrow and normal)

1 pair Schumacher mini spike Rear tyres

1 pair Schumacher mini spike front narrow tyres

1 pair Schumacher mini spike front normal tyres

2 sets Fastrax buggy rear rims with spike tyres mounted

1 set Fastrax front buggy rims with stub tyres mounted

1 set Fastrax front buggy rims (narrow ) with stub tyres fitted

So 12 cans of spray paint, 3 pairs of foams, 4 pairs of rims with tyres, 3 pairs of tyres and 30 body clips for £75 (about £50 saving over internet hobbyshop pricing!)

Not a bad shopping trip B)

I hope they made something from my visit, couple of nice genuine guys with interests elsewhere and a lack of time to devote to getting the model business where they'd like. I've tried to give them some of my business over the last 6 months since i knew they existed, and they've always been fair and honest, often looking up other sellers of spare parts for me rather then them get them in and me pay over the odds for one off orders.

What you get, what you get??????

Lots of stuff to get the Terra Schorcher and Stadium Raider up and going and a few bits for the TRF and DB01R

No kits at this point as I needed to get the others all up and going. too many projects around.

Finished the rear end of my Optima Mid build.

I bought 3Racing Kyosho Lazer shocks and they are a bit rubbish. They leak very badly and the springs supplied are really hard. I put one of the O rings in WD40 for it to expand but of course the ID of the O ring expanded too and didn't really work.

Having spent the money on the rest of the car I think using the 3racing shocks was a false economy anyway. I do intend to run the car albeit gently so am either going to get the Kyosho equalizer shocks, the velvet shocks or maybe even the posh tamiya ones. I'd like the velvets but not sure what size will fit the mid.
