I just fixed my GF's Frog, not gonna lie there's always a bit of pride in fixing stuff for her  

Last week she lost one of the step screws for the front uprights, we didn't have any in stock and seeing we had to buy the whole D bag (no pun intended) for the ORV chassis to get new ones she was a bit bummed. So I foraged through my stock of random screws and I found the perfect fit in some old servo mounting hardware : 

The result is a bit odd, but it works, and it works much better actually, because the part I used acts as a washer, which creates a much tighter fit within the upright assembly while keeping the mechanism resistance-free. This time I used thread lock too .

swoped the new  front gearbox for the top-force and replaced some of the screws  and noticed the front shock mount (j 10 ) is starting to crack so gotta replace that 

the while inserting the drive shaft i noticed the rear gear box witch was repalced the same time as the front ( 2 years ago) is also cracking.

i really dont know what is going on with tamiya plastics atm all it has done is sat on the shelf o has never been used

Well after 2 years of having very few issues with my Lunchbox despite all the dubious 3d printed additions, I managed to break it 3 times in the past week all within minutes of switching it on!

I don't know if it's the weather or bad luck or what!?

It started off when one of the chassis mounts for the 4 link suspension broke.



Fair enough, I thought to myself. It's just 3d printed ABS and it lasted 2 years. Pretty good really! So I replaced it with a spare printed in PETG. Should be just as strong if not stronger. Job done.

But nope, took it out the next day and one of the 5mm ball studs connecting the links to the gearbox tore out of the plastic. No biggie either, I thought. It's always been a bit of a weak point so I did my usual fix of drilling the hole out slightly and inserting a threaded brass insert similar to this:

 

et viola! The stud now has a nice metal thread to sit in. Add some blue threadlock and it's going nowhere! 

So today me and the kid went out to give it the old shakedown and make sure the repairs took. 5 minutes in and the axle is wobbling about again! What's going on? There's no way those studs can pull out now! Maybe one of the plastic ball connectors just popped off?

Nope. The stud snapped 



I guess at least now I know those inserts are fixed in there well!

I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised, they are only brass after all. But I would have expected to the plastic end connector to just pop off or even pull off the threaded rod before the actual stud snapped!

Looks like I might need to look around for a better option than those brass ball studs though. My first thought was to just get the nut version and use my own screws made from something a bit stronger, stainless steel of some type.




I find those little studs annoying expensive for what they are, though. So I might just use something else I already have in hand like these:



Anyways, do any of you guys ever find you have trouble free running for ages and then suddenly a load of fails in quick succession?

I have to say, I expected the teething problems 2 years ago when I started running it lol.

Not today but yesterday. We went to walk new trails and I brought the T̶e̶r̶r̶a̶ Snow Scorcher along. No crazy action as the snow was still too fresh off the beaten path literally speaking, but still even at a slow pace it was a great feeling, especially seeing the supple suspensions at work on the knobby terrain.

I've fitted one of these for now with a stainless steel screw. It should be significantly stronger than the brass screw thread on the tamiya ball stud. I'll probably switch them all over to these shortly.

I have some black 12.9 steel screws around somewhere that I will fit when I can find them too, they are supposedly stronger again.

A few days ago now, but this weekend had a 12hour endurance race. 1:1 so not rc, but most people here would be interested. Our AE111 Toyota Levin was flawless once again and we managed 14th from 41 teams. The car is going to get some (more) love before the next event in May with a full respray, baffles for the sump and new seats. And of course anything that needs replacing from a once over by our friendly mechanic. It was such a good weekend.

Not Tamiya but I would like to share this.

Its a hat with a fan from 95-96 when I was a child.

it hald old wires and missing switch like somebody tried to repair it.

started yesterday by adding wires and testing the motor. After some screaming and whining from the motor, I oiled the shafts and it runs smooth now. Took from a decoration the switch and see through wires that suit the look perfect. They arent noticable while wearing it. 
 

I am not sure if there is a cover for the motor, but the battery cover I have lost for sure.

Yesterday i did some boring preventative measures on my tt02. I ran it on a stand/box for 10 minutes on low to medium RPM. Its been a shelf queen for 2 months as I had no real useful place to run it. The slash isn't an issue for locations, I just don't want the tt02 motor to get lazy. I plan to run the tt02 in the park when weather allows.

Splendid weather today and it was real Quiet on HomeOffice today, so i charged my 3s batteries and took Agrios out for a walk. Pure Therapy!! for mild Covid-Depression. Today it was melt-water on top off ice and also grass and mud some plases, so Agrios kicked water, dirt and loose ice everywhere in the sun , first time i would really like to make a video as well, but a picture will have to do, incl shadow me taking it:

Put the LRP esc back in its case and soldered a battery T plug. I would need to find bullet connector for the motor wires. Any recommendations on motor to esc connections?

Back in the day, we used to hardwire the motor to the esc...

If I were to use plugs, I'd go with Dean's connectors...
