We turned on the TV to watch a movie yesterday evening and on Discovery channel they were broadcasting something called BattleBots 2020 World Championship, I totally forgot about that robot wars thing! Both my wife and I got fascinated and ended up watching the whole thing instead of the movie, and we laughed so hard!! It's real fun and quite impressive to watch, I guess that's one of the most extreme ways to enjoy RC! The ultimate bashers no doubt  a team from New Zealand won just for the record.

I suggest watching some if you get the chance, it's really hilarious

Been watching a lot of Battlebots lately.  Really entertaining and to your point, the ultimate bashers!

I've followed that show for a long time. I love the series and I recently found it very therapeutic. If you are ticked off that you broke your RC kit or something related to it the just watch a few BB fights. You see the damage they take and it's likely not as expensive or serious as your kit. Son of Whyachi, Hydra are my favs in that series. One of the older fights with Son of Whyachi vs End game was rather short...

I took a few runs with the Hornet in the mess of the snowmelt these days. Water, mud and sludge added to the melting snow are a bit hard on the car, but it's worth the time spent cleaning afterwards. Can't wait for some more forgiving terrain conditions though

Thanks for the reply @Killajb. I previously ordered some 7k and 10k diff oil. Honestly for my purposes, I'm not sure I would even notice a difference in grease vs. oil...but I wanted to get it right (or at least close) on the first try!

Looks like a good choice for motor. I have a Hobbywing 10.5T 3600kV laying around. Do you think that motor would be too hot for the Turbo Optima?

Only too hot if you drive it like you stole it.  If you drive responsibly and have a proper setup I think you'll be fine.  I noticed that Kyosho offers an optional spur gear that is noted "for brushless"https://rc.kyosho.com/en/otw126.html.  Maybe this is for intended track use or whatever.  However, I plan on adjusting the slipper clutch appropriately as well as dialing in the punch settings on my esc to make things right.  I'm no professional drive by any stretch of the imagination and this car may not even see dirt or jumps at all.  Just some mild street runs and then I'll throw on the gold blingy alloy wheels and rest it on the shelf.  Still.. I enjoy fiddling with things until it suits my driving style.  My goal is to be able to grab full trigger and accelerate smoothly without excess wheel spin or damage to the drivetrain.

Maybe it's just me but the Hornet is possibly the prettiest looking RC buggy. It's proportions are just spot on.

That’s what it’s all about, I’m not a racer. GF-01 hooked me on the Comical Avante, I/we’ve had so much fun with a Heavy Dump Truck, I seem to end up with 2 or 3 of every chassis I like :D

BattleBots 2020 World Championship

Is BattleBots the same format as BBC Robot Wars used to be? We watched this on Friday night and enjoyed the actions of Sir Killalot and Mathilda. Magic. The Dutch version of the show was weak and stopped after one season.

To continue with my stock take, I went into the garage and reviewed my paint store.

15 unused PS cans

9 unused TS cans

That will stop me buying any more PS-1 or PS-12 for a bit! A couple of cans of each are probably enough to back what I would like to paint this year.

Now I need to work through the list and determine what the rest were bought for. And then get some bodies ready to paint!

Finished the Mk2 Escort (pic in Mk2 thread). Great bodyshell looks so right, really happy with the British Airways stickers. Why oh why doesn't Tamiya supply pre cut ones as well?!

Picked these up from a local hobby shop. Was lucky enough to find Renault Clio wheels.

New roof. Fabricated fro 2mm carbon fiber and 1mm aluminum

New aluminum 20mm hex hub

New SA rear wheels and DT-03 front wheels and tires. Waiting for the rear tires though.

Much to my surprise, early in the morning I found that the snow had gotten crusty again, enough to run a buggy. I then pushed work to an hour later in order to enjoy some RC.

Took out the Scorcher and had a blast, for the little that it lasted (snow started melting within the first battery).

This was most likely my last "carefree" run before a delicate decision to make: either keep on running the Terra Scorcher after snowmelt, which would sure bring more fun but also inevitable scratches and scuff marks, or just shelf it and keep it as a Snow Scorcher only.
I gotta say, after putting so much time and effort on its looks, it feels great to go for a snow run and once done just dry it up and store it, as pristine as when it came out. Even the front bumper is still scratchless.
But on the other hand, it would feel counterintuitive not to use it in the good Season.

I don't really like having this mixed feelings towards my cars 🙄 I remember when I first got the Hornet, I always tried to keep up the looks but running was the absolute priority no matter how rough and dirty it got (and as a matter of fact, it's still this way with that buggy). I guess when having more cars available and at the same time having fallen deeper into the RC rabbit hole, this feelings are inevitable when it comes to one's newer or better looking cars.

Anyway enuff with the blabber, here's a little Snow Splotcher action

got around to putting the decals on my Tamiya Legends Porsche 911 tribute ( cough Copy ) turned out really nice, I am also going to try and do a replica 959 on a TA05 M-Four kit. hopefully that works out as its almost impossible to get a 959 for a reasonable price and shape

It still is a battle to destroy each other's robots but BB has a regular season which narrows down to 32 robots and eventually 1 sole  survivor. 3 minute battle time for judges descision, KO if it's destroyed or has no transitional movement or a ring out to win whichever comes first. They play for a giant nut and they do have some special formats, 1v1, 3 to 6 robot rumble and also a desperado tournament where those on the line of qualifying can opt to do 4 battles (pyramid roster/path) for a guaranteed spot in tournament. Any that don't win are put back in general listing for convetinal route. The robots need strong potential for damage or control but if a robot malfunction could do serious damage to arena then they need to drop out or tone it down. The arena traps are different but there are no house bots looking for opportunities to go for the actual contestants. Weight limits are 250lb wheels or 500lb for walkers.

Not sure what sort of robot wars format has for a final prize but seeing robots destroy each other is still good to see.

Building a ‘from leftovers’ CW01 mostly standard specification, ancient servo is from a refurb project but perfect for this, the wires are bare pulled out the plug so I might splash out on crimpers and some plugs, anyone got advice on which ones & where to get?

I’m  still raging that I overpaid by £1.50 for my callipers

I was going to put a 425 Unimog body on this but I’ve changed my mind so a Kamtec LB Parma copy now on order.

You think you overpaid? I paid $14 for mine a couple of years ago and they're now $6! The kiwi is weak against the pound but $8 is 4quid!

I got crimpers and plugs off Banggood, if you just need to fix 1 servo it would be cheaper to buy a new servo...
